When you edit a line and press return, it will automatically double-space it.

What you need to do is simultaneously press SHIFT + ENTER to create a new line. This will create a single spaced line break.

So, you may need to respace a bit of you are editing. Let me know if that helps.

Emails are going out sporadically for in-line reviews. They are not going out for regular reviews or if a connection posts content.

We have been working to upgrade the email system and you will start to see changes next week. Thanks for your patience.
Sol

Can you provide a link to that poetry. Thanks.

Sol, one enhancement that I think would be very helpful for everyone is the ability to flag which reviews we've worked through and have incorporated into our manuscripts. I envision a checkbox that then allows the author to see at a glance on the review tabs which received reviews we've processed. I don't want to delete them entirely, since I or others may want to refer to them again later.

Okay, request noted. Thanks.

If I delete a review from the My Reviews list, does it disappear altogether?

Yes, if you delete it, it is gone. There is no function right now to remove something from the list without deleting it.

Sure, the point system encourages the same sincerity of paid reviews of books sold on Amazon or of merchandise sold anywhere over the internet. If the point system exists to encourage reviews, and I am sure it does, why is there otherwise not a genuine review process, on style and substance, and not so much on grammar and punctuation, only for the sake of reviewing, among disinterested strangers who have nothing to get or give, on TNBW?  It ought to be simple: find a book that has something which interests you and comment on it to the extent it satisfies or disappoints, and why.  But no, everyone either wants to suck up and "make friends"  or get reciprocal reviews of the junk they write for the junk they read.

Seriously? This is the same drivel I listened to when the site originally launched and it proved to be totally worthless. That's my review of your comment.

What type of notifications do you mean? At present, email notifications are not working. Your Connections will see each new chapter posted on their homepage, in the connections section.

We have upgraded the in-line review process so that you can now save in-line reviews and submit them at a later date. The author of the work being reviewed will not be notified until the in-line is submitted.

When leaving an in-line review, it will be marked as draft. At the bottom you have the option to Save or Submit.

The easiest solution is to disconnect from the Free group. Then, you would not see the content that is posted to that group, including users who come on and post multiple poems or short stories.

...I've noticed some (newbies maybe?) don't understand that reciprocity is just good manners. They post and post but never review.

Many might never reciprocate. That's why if you want to be assured that they will reciprocate either by reviewing your work, or the work of others on the site, you can stick with those using points. But it's up to you.

Sol: When I type a comment in the in-line review dialogue box after highlighting a word or phrase in the piece, the response to each keystroke is very slow. This doesn't happen anywhere else on the site.

Do you have an old computer?

The point system is alive and well. TheNextBigWriter Premium has received more point-driven reviews and postings than before we launched the new site. What is changing is we now have the option for members to also point non-point content. Some are experimenting doing this with poems and short stories. Some new members are putting up novels this way. These are writers who would have come to the old site and not participated anyway, so it is neither a loss nor gain from the point system perspective.

If you want to remove content posted without points, just leave TheNextBigWriter Free site and then you will be back to a point-only environment.

For those who want want to be assured they will receive feedback, the point system is the way to go. And the coins are an indication of a member that is willing to give feedback in order to get it.

What happened to the in-line review?  No dialog box appears for me to write my review comments.

Is it still not working for you? I just checked and it seemed to be okay. Let me know.

Sol, I wanted to let you know about a loophole that I noticed.
I am not a member of the literary fiction group.  Temple Wang didn't post to TNBC premium.  If I search under her name, the site tells me to join the Lit Fic group or get approved as a contact.

Hi Amy, Temple has two different books by the same name posted. One is connected to Premium, the other only to Lit Fic. Are you sure you were clicking on the one only posted to Lit Fic? Please confirm. I just tested clicking on her name in the forum and then accessing the content and I was blocked.

Thanks,
Sol

From looking at inline reviews as I add inline comments, it seems like I just need to do inline 5 comments to get full points. Can you please clarify.

You need to either do an in-line review with 5 comments, or a regular review with a minimum of 50 words. You do not have to do both. There was a bug where content was paying double points for an in-line and a regular review. This might be where the mis-perception came from.

Sol

I see a lot of users have chosen to make their books and stories available to everyone on the Internet. If your content is on this page, readers do not need to login to view and read what you have posted:

http://www.thenextbigwriter.com/free-ebooks

I wanted to make sure everyone knew that this was the case. Content appears on this page if you choose to publish the content to Groups, Connections, and Internet. If you do not want it available to everyone, then change the setting to Groups and Content Only.

To get to this page, go to your Portfolio, click the title of the content, click the Publish sub-tab.

Sol

Yeah.  I noticed that.  So I think there is something wrong with the publishing editing software.  I mean: why would it claim to import Word and not do it very well.

It is very, very difficult to import Word documents and format them properly for html across all the different versions of Word, operating system, browsers, etc. We import Word, clean it, and then output it as clean html. For most standard text, this works great. The forum does not do this and if you started pasting Word documents into it, you would quickly run into many formatting problems.

We can see about not stripping out certain elements like foreign language symbols.

Sol

This will be fixed in the next day or two. You'll have the ability to save the in-line and then come back and finish and post it when you are done.

I think it's just the way the in-line reviews work. The in-line starts to auto-save the minute you begin to type an in-line review. You can go back and edit/add at any time.

We are working on a feature so that you can "submit" the review when you feel that you are done.

Sol

The in-line review starts savings the minute you type something in. You can go back at any time and add more so that you can get the points and also further refine your review.

We're making some changes to this process so you can decide when you want to submit it.

Charles, I just sent you an email. Let me know what type of computer and browser you are using.

Oh. I see.  Every other forum I am associated with automatically subscribes you to a thread that you post in (or start).  You have to go to your settings to unsubscribe.  I see the 'subscribe' link at the top now.

There should be emails going out when you subscribe. I know they aren't in many cases. We're tackling the email system this week so it will change.

Sol

Okay, thanks. Will look into that situation.

You can change a title. Just to to Portfolio, click on the title of the story, and on the next page click the title. Once you click it, you can change it.

Somewhere along the way, if you would consider removing the word count limit in the In-Line review boxes, it would be much appreciated.

I don't think we can remove it completely because of spam comments, but we can certainly increase it considerably. Will do that.

1. Cursor jumping to the top in the panes, whether in reviews or forums, is an ongoing issue. My cursor bounces to the top, or off the edge of the bottom.

Have the issues with leaving a review improved or disappeared? We made some changes to the input boxes.

Let me know.

Sol
