Hi,

There will be a link to a page that looks like this that will contain all of the forums from the old site:

http://old.thenextbigwriter.com/forum/index.php

But this is just for the forums from the old site. We can't do this for all of the forums on the new site from each of the groups. It's technically impossible  since we will have hundreds if not thousands of groups in the future, some of which have selected to be private or even invisible.

Please let ue know more about this, as we're chomping at the bit to read/post on the new site. Things are amazingly silent at present, at least in the groups I'm part of.

I'm a bit confused over what is stopping people. The site is here to post, the forums are open and you can start a conversation at any time. I think the quiet you are experiencing is more because of the holiday season than anything that has to do with forum design. In fact on the old site, it would often go for long periods of time without much forum posting.

In fact, I'd love to turn the conversation to more writing related matters and will post a starter topic now.

I had to again "update publishing selections" before my newest chapter was displayed on the home page (and anywhere else for that matter).  Is this something new that we have to do now for every chapter?

No, how long did you wait for the content to appear on the homepage? It can sometimes take 10-15 minutes. By clicking the update publishing selections you are resetting the normal wait period and overriding the process but you don't need to do it. It will eventually appear.

I'm going out of my mind with the chapter renumbering mess whose thread I started on Wishlist.
TNBW is moving chapters on me that I haven't touched.
I'm trying to reorder a couple of chapters.  I don't want to simply swap content because I want the existing reviews to go with them.  There are/were previous versions.
Every time I make a change, something else gets changed as well.  An earlier chapter is moved later.  A later chapter is moved earlier.  Previous versions get whole different chapter numbers.
Clearly, the data and transaction model cannot accomodate moving chapters around, and the version model that assumes that previous versions are in the same place as present versions does not match the way things actually work.
Is there -any- solution short of copying everything to a new work, losing both a day and all the accumulated reviews?

I see what you are saying. There seems to be a bug in the reordering system when there are multiple versions of a chapter. We'll take a look and get it fixed.

Our plan is to allow posting in different languages, including Hebrew and Japanese. Let me find out what is involved and see if we can accelerate that feature. It might be worthwhile to create a new Group for these languages if you plan to post so that others who write in that language can congregate.

I've posted long chapters that have taken fewer points than short chapters.

This should never have happened. The formula is the same regardless of number of words. It does vary depending on the type of ccontent - poems, short stories, novels, etc.

There's a section on this page that discusses how points are calculated.

It says I have a 30-day upgrade bonus that expires on January 18. But I don't find anything that asks address, credit card, info etc. Will that appear in January?

Yes.

This really isn't that hard. Here's the step-by-step for creating a new chapter version.

1. Go to Your Porftolio.
2. Click the title you want to add a new version to.
3. Go to the Content sub-tab.
4. Click the add chapter button
5. Fill in this chapter and increment the version to whatever number you want.
6. Click Save and Publish
7. Go to the Publish page and publish the new chapter.
8. Done.

At that point, you can keep the old version active, or not. You do not change the version number on the old version, this will overwrite the old version. Instead, you have the option of creating an entirely new version and keeping it within the book. There is no need to create a new book, etc. This will bring it to the top of the list and it will also preserve the old version should you want to refer to it, etc. This is a true version system. The old republish system was not a version system at all.

Try it, you might like it.

What do you see when you click this link?

https://www.thenextbigwriter.com/member … e-services

We are doing some optimization on the homepage to make it load faster and had to remove the coin icons on the homepage for about 1 hour. They should be back later today.

Thanks,
Sol

Speaking of auto renewal. What is the procedure to make sure you have all the correct billing info and when will the renewal take place? I joined in June 2010. You definitely need new credit card info.

Check your billing screen for the date when you need to renew. At that point, you'll be prompted to upgrade and you can fill in your new credit card info.

Sol

Sol, I just received an email saying my membership expired and all my content is gone, but I can rejoin. Of course I am in a panic. SO far nothing seems to have actually happened, but I always had auto/renew. Is this function not working??? Please let me know what is going on! I don't actually remember when my subscription expires because of the autorenew, but whern I went to the billing page there was no information at all. Please Sol, I don't want to lose everything!!!!!

This is a message from the old site. This should have been disabled. Sorry about that. Disregard the email.

I answered this question here.

Ok, Sol. Here's a little nit picking thing that wasn't happening last week but is now. It seems that my closing remarks on inline reviews shows up twice. I don't care, but it just started.

I think one is the actual closing remark and the other is a text box where you can edit the closing remark. Is that too confusing? Do you want the ability to add a closing remark after you have submitted it?

A bug I hadn't noticed before is happening. I have a review reply that won't stop notifying me because the author disabled the content I reviewed. The system isn't registering that I've seen the message.

This should be fixed. Let me know if it is still a problem.

I'm assuming you mean 1,000 characters.  That seems perfect to me.

Yes, sorry, it's actually characters.

Thank you!. It's been a hectic month smile. I appreciate all of the feedback that you have provided. It is making the site better. We're working as fast as we can to implement and make changes based on it.

We also have some new programs and features we are going to be rolling out in the new year.  So, Happy Holidays to everyone and here's to a successful 2015 for all!

It's certainly not a fix (still waiting on that like you) but I've found I can click again on the same section and continue my remarks in a new box. At least it's a way around the limit until it's expanded - not ideal but better than nothing while waiting. Take care. Vern

We'll have this fixed later today or tomorrow at the latest. We are also modifying the formatting of the comment a bit more so that you can leave comments in paragraphs. Right now, we will expand the comment size to 1,000 words. Is that enough? Very much bigger and it could break the design in some cases.

However, on the home page if I go to the bottom and click on one of the subjects (Strongest Start 2015, etc) BEFORE logging in, I get a screen that has my log on and password already filled in, asking me to join the site. Apparently those pages are recognizing my computer. To escape the page I click on TNBW in the upper left header which takes me back to the moon page. Then when I click on Log In the drop down is already completed. All I have to do is click on 'sign in'

Hi Allen,

This is your browser. The site doesn't have an auto-fill option on username and password. You must have stored the username and password on your browser.

I have now received a second notification email and when I clicked on the link, I was told "You do not have permission to access this page."
Why an I getting notifications for threads I don't have access to?
The thread is titled "Publishing Problem".
EDIT: Clicking the "unsubscribe" link, I get this:
"Unable to confirm security token. A likely cause for this is that some time passed between when you first entered the page and when you submitted a form or clicked a link. If that is the case and you would like to continue with your action, please click the Confirm button. Otherwise, you should click the Cancel button to return to where you were."
MORE EDIT: Clicking the "Confirm" button whisks me to the Next Big Writer Premium Forum, Page 1

Okay, we'll take a look. Thanks.

Hi Sol,
So whats the default for historical work by  premium users coming over to this new site?  Will we need to go to every submitted work and change the selection or are we automatically on the 'do not publish to everyone' group?

The default is to only make it available to groups and connections, which does not make it available to the general Internet. You do not have to go through all of your previously submitted work. This is also the default for newly published content.

I noticed some users were changing it from the default and I just wanted to make sure they understood what this meant. It sounds like for the most part, users do understand this.

Hi Vern,

You should be able to access it by going to Reviews on the drop-down and then clicking the In-line posted. Or, you can click New In-line Review Resplies on the homepage. This should also show you the drafts.

The original thread became very long and spammers attacked it. So, here's a second one. I will continue to review the original also.

Thanks,

So are these trolls paying for a premium membership to post spam?

We're under a spam attack. We'll have it under control although it may take a day to change some of the settings. Sorry about the inconvenience.

In the meantime, I'm going to close this topic in order to try and blunt the attack until we can squash it for good.

(Worsened) bug.

That's strange because we haven't touched the actual in-line process. We only updated the flow around it. I'll test it out more this weekend and see what we can do.
