Hi Sol,
Just want to check, would entries from Aus be ok?
Thanks Janet

Yes. They are fine.

Hi Allen,

Ignore this. It's a line that should have been removed and will be on Monday.

In the future, there may be contests where the entries are not visible. This is a vestige of that feature.

Sol

This is an interesting conversation. Let me take a step back and ask everyone this: what caused you to upgrade to Premium? Or, what got you to join the old site as a Writing Member? From there, we can begin to think about the writer series of features for Free versus Premium.

We released a few enhancements to the forum last night. You can now view all threads that you are subscribed to and also view all of your posts. There are links in the blue tool bar at the top. In addition, you can search through your posts by keyword if you want to find a particular conversation.

If anyone thinks they paid the wrong price, let me know and we'll credit the difference.

There may be a bug that has removed the special pricing for grandfathered members of the old site. I am going to check and have it fixed by tomorrow if that's the case.

Did I read somewhere/sometime that if a person was a 'Premium' member when the new site became active that the annual membership renewal cost would remain the same and not go up to the new price?

Yes, that is correct. Is that not happening?

Sol, my first 3 chapters are labeled "0,1,2".  Is that okay, or should I relabel them "1,2,3"?
I posted a "chapter 0" when I began work shopping Daughter of Aithne, because technically the first chapter is a prologue, though I would like to have it count as chapter 1 for purposes of the competition. I just am not sure if the Chapter 0 tag will cause problems when filtering entries for the judges to read.
Thanks in advance for your help. I'm very excited for this year's competition, and I'm looking forward to seeing everyone's entries.

This won't cause a problem. The judges are going to take the first three chapters. So, if the first starts at 0, that's the first.

Just worked it out, I had to go into edit and then on to contests. Xx

Are you sure you entered it? I don't see it on the list?

Hi everyone,

You can now mark in-line reviews that you have incorporated into your writing as 'Applied.' This will help members keep track of which reviews they have incorporated and which they haven't. By tomorrow, we will have the same feature for regular reviews.

We've rolled out a string of new features this week including a contest module, improvements to the forum, enhanced emails, and others which aren't as obvious. We're continuing to work through the list of bugs. We're also hard at work at the next generation of in-line reviews and a few other oft-requested features and bugs.

Thanks,
Sol

I'm just enquiring about the competition, are the works of writers from the uk eligible?  I've tried to enter my story but the enter competition button doesn't come up on the drop down menu beside the story I want to enter. And help would be appreciated if it's simple something I'm doing wrong.

Hi Michael,

UK entries are eligible.

Did you to the Contest tab for the particular entry? Go to Profile, click on the title of the work, then go to the Contest sub-tab. As long as the contest has bee published to the Premium group, you should be able to enter. Let me know if you are still having problems.

Best,
Sol

Great news!!  But just as a bug FYI, the link you offered takes you to contest info--clicking into the provided links of past winners takes you to the wrong works.

Thanks. Will fix those.

Actually, it can be done or at least it could be before the word limit was extended (haven't tried it since) because I did it in order to get all my comments in. I simply clicked on the already highlighted area and it produced another comment box. Take care. Vern

Interesting. I stand corrected smile.

Thanks! We spent a lot of time to make it look and work okay across all platforms.

Oh, that I don't think can be done - selecting a word or section "twice", but Sol will be the best person to confirm whether it's a site or chrome thing.  JR

This cannot be done. You can't select text twice.

Hi Sol!  When trying to "publish and review" or "publish and post" my chapters the buttons for said choices don't seem to be working.  I'm using Google Chrome.  The content transfers over from my clipboard quite nicely but doesn't want to save to the site.  Is this a glitch?
Also, like Norm above I have a hard time just selecting one word for inline reviews.  I have this problem with both my laptop, desktop and surface.  Very frustrating.

That's strange. The first problem is probably related to your computer settings. Make sure you have javascript enabled. If you still have this problem after fiddling with your settings, let me know and we will diagnose it further, perhaps with a telephone call.

In terms of in-line review precision, it is something we are working on. I can't promise an immediate fix but we are working on a new version of in-line reviews that will hopefully resolve some of these problems.

Sol, I seem to have lost a review. I reviewed a very short piece called Perplexing Pyramids from Derek Atkins that didn't require any inline comments nor even fifty words for a regular review. I went inline, left no inline comments, and just put a closing comment at the bottom, knowing that I wouldn't receive any points, which was fine. The system allowed me to submit this without apparent error, yet when I look for it my completed inline reviews, it's not there. Is it in the ether?
Win 7 PC & Google Chrome.
Thanks.
Dirk

We were making some changes to the system last night so it's possible  it ate your review. If so, I apologize. Have you lost any other reviews? If so, let  me know.

Thanks,
Sol

Welcome back!

The point system should be the same as on the old site. The new site uses the same formula.

Sol

We are pleased to announce the launch of the 2015 Strongest Start Book Competition. The competition has over $1,000 in prizes in addition to the winner receiving an opportunity for their book to be reviewed by an Amazon Hall of Fame Reviewer, when it is finally published.

The launch of the contest coincides with the release of our new contest platform. We can now create contests for any group and in the future will allow groups to create, release, and market their own contests.

Entering is a big different from the old site. To enter, there is now a new tab when you publish work called Contests. That tab allows you to enter your book into the contest. If it says you are not eligible, then you either do not have your work posted to Premium, or the work was posted too long ago and you need to repost.

If you have other questions, feel free to post them.

Good luck!

Not related to this topic but just testing emails from forum subscriptions.

There are still tags on this site. We just haven't activated them yet. They will be activated in a bit.

Do I simply 'add a chapter' and call it chapter X version 2? or is there a button I'm not seeing.

Yes, you simply add a chapter and call it chapter x version 2.

Great! This was part of a roll-out we did today. More to come tomorrow.

This has probably already been mentioned, but in case it hasn't, when I double-click a word while giving inline feedback, it usually selects two. Just a nit, but an annoying one.

Is this from computer or from tablet?

I have an iPad issue for you.  When I am doing an in-line comment, if I make a mistake on selecting the text, or I decide not to make the comment, I hit that X in the upper right of the comment box to close it.  Sometimes I have to hit that X many times, a half-dozen sometimes, before I can get it to close.  This doesn't seem to be an accuracy problem, as I only have it that specific condition.  Often times, I can't get it to close and all and I have to refresh the screen.   Have you seen this with your iPad testing?

I haven't seen the problem but that doesn't mean it's not there. I'll talk to the development team and see what we can do.
