Are you able to access the rest of the forum besides the thread you are referring to? This sometimes happens  when a thread is removed. I did remove one today so that could have been it.

Just create a new version if the book and publish it in the points group as you get the points. You can purchase some points if you absolutely need them fast. We had this on the old site and will be launching the option this week.

Would it be helpful if we converted them for you? It's something we are playing with.

So if I use the good advice I have had in in-line reviews and publish a new draft, will it cost me a bunch of points again?

You can edit the draft you have already published for no additional points, or you can publish a new version of the content, which will cost the typical number of points to publish.

Vern is right. You can just publish it again. It's a better option than the old re-publish option.

Hi Meli,

You changed your settings to private. To change it back, you needed to make the changes and then click the Save button. You were not saving the changes you made.

This always happen. Inform them these kind of reviews won't fly. I'll do the same and suspend them if needed. You can also delete these reviews from your content.

Hello,
I have a story that I'm co-writing with a friend of mine and we would like to enter the competition. I was wondering if we can submit our story and if yes, is it enough if I submit it and state that it is written by the both of us or do we have to do anything else?
Tünde

That's fine.

Hi all,

We are pleased to offer a new class entitled Perfecting Your Short Story. The class is designed to help anyone with a draft short story bang it into shape and also learn more about the art of writing this type of literature.

You can read more about the class here:

http://www.thenextbigwriter.com/group-p … e-class-58

The class is scheduled to begin on February 23, 2015 and will run for 4-weeks. The cost is $108 for Premium members, $120 for other members.

The instructor is Elena Cabrera, a master's candidate at Emerson College in Boston, Massachusetts where she is pursing an MFA in Creative Writing with a concentration in fiction. As an undergraduate at Fairfield University, she majored in English with a concentration in Creative Writing and spent all four years taking creative writing workshops and courses on publishing. For three years, she worked as the Managing Editor for the university's literary journal, Dogwood: A Journal of Poetry and Prose where she read hundreds of short stories, poems, and non fiction essays. Her short story "How Lucky We Have it" was published in the Spring 2013 edition of The Collegiate Scholar, a literary journal created by The National Society of Collegiate Scholars.  After graduation, she worked as an editorial intern at Sourcebooks, Inc. where she read and edited romance novels and women's fiction.

We'll also be launching a poetry class shortly as well as an encore of the popular Strongest Start Class taught by Anita Mumm.

Hi all,

We made two changes to the homepage over the last couple of days.

1.  Under each content type there is now an orange button that brings you to more content for that particular type. For instance, under the listing of Books is a button that says: Find More Books. This should make it easier to browser for content that is no longer on the homepage list.

2. We have re-organized the alerts section, breaking them out into Feedback and Communication.

Thanks,
Sol

Hi Lesley,
It's not optimized for posting from an ipad right now but it should be possible. What version iPad are you using? I'll run some tests over the next couple of days. We do have some fixed planned that should improve the situation for all iPad users shortly either way.

Hi all,
Just a note that we had to turn off connection emails for the weekend. There was a bug. We'll have it fixed and running in the next couple of days.

Sol

I haven't been getting ANY email notices of my connections posting content. Same problem I had with the old system. I didn't receive any notices of Charles Brass posting, for instance. I'll (triple) check my settings, just to be sure, but if you could look into that, I'd appreciate it.

We didn't have emails on the new site until this afternoon. Check your spam folder to make the emails aren't going there. By Monday we'll have a new fix in that should limit emails going to spam.

The problem I've been having when using my tablets, Kindle Fire and Dell is with the inline highlighting. Without a mouse I can only highlight the width of my finger. When I drag nothing happens. Is this something you're working on?

Are you pressing and waiting for the cursor to appear and then seeing two arrows appear at either end that you can lengthen to select the text? I will do a video next week that describes exactly how to do an inline on mobile. Maybe this is the problem.

It should definitely work on Kindle as I've tested it extensively on one. It should also be okay on Dell. Let  me know how you are doing inlines and then we can take it from there.

Now, I want to side with GP. Can you make the site more iPad friendly?

Yes, we'll tackle this over the next couple of weeks.

Hi all,

We made several significant changes/improvements to the site this week.

1. On registration every new member is now given a 30 day trial of Premium Membership along with 7.5 points. So, let's welcome the new members with hellos, connections, and reviews. You'll earn points for it.

2. We also closed the Free Group to new members so while the group will stick around for the moment, no one new will be able to find or or join it.

3. You will now receive email alerts when your connections post content. You can choose to turn these off for any connection by going to the Connections page.

If you experience any problems, let me know.

Thanks,
Sol

Go to your portfolio page. There is a tab that says Statistics on the upper  left of the page.

Actually, you can. If you go to the Statistics tab on the Portfolio section you can click over to reviews from there.

Sol, about the two postings of "The Watch" --  think what I did was accidently post to the Free group when I edited the unpublished story to add a cover picture. Then, I couldn't see it anywhere, so I thought, "Another disappearing posting," and started from square one. Thus, it is there twice. The reason the story doesn't show up in the New Short Story list on my Home page is that I'm not a member of the free group, I think. I'll delete the unpublished one. Later, when I get the points, I'll publish it in the Premium group. I hope you haven't spent time trying to figure this one out.

Okay, thanks. Good to know.

You can reply anytime. Just go to your reviews received, open the review and you can then reply. There is even a filter so that you can find reviews received that yo have not responded to yet.

I don't think you published it to any groups. Right now, it's just visible to your connections because it's not published anywhere else. You need to add it to a group or groups in order to have it appear on the homepage of others who belong to those groups.

To do that:

1. Go to portfolio
2. Find work and click Action and then Publish Setup.
3. Choose the groups you want to publish it to and then click Update Publish Settings.

That should do it. It might take a few minutes to appear on homepage.

Sol

I think you just came up with a pretty good solution, so I really hope it works out.

This was suggested by a few other members so I can't take the credit. Thanks everyone!

Yes, I see what you mean. Okay, we'll look into creating way to delete drafts.

Yes, we don't force it anymore. We can add some language that explains how reviewers really, really like to receive a response back from the writer.
