Topic: Site Bugs

It's been a long two days and the site is launched. Whenever you bring a site live though, new bugs show up so I won't pretend there aren't any on the site. We tested, re-tested, and tested it again but I can already see a couple of bugs. As you use the site, it's most likely you will experience a few over the next few days. Please report them below. We will resolve them quickly. Thanks for your patience. By this weekend, the site will be running smoothly.

Re: Site Bugs

Yay!  Nice job getting the site up.

There is a bug on the home page...actually the home page doesn't show up. But I logged in anyway by choosing from the upper nav bar.
Also, the search feature under finding members is pretty archaic. If a name isn't EXACTLY right, it won't find them. I've typed two active members names exactly as they appeared on the old site and it won't find them on this one via search. Making connections, particularly now when everyone will be racing to do it, should be streamlined.

That's all I've found so far.

Re: Site Bugs

Found another one. On beta, when I edited my profile and changed the caps on my name--it stuck everywhere. This time, it's only showing up on the forums and when I view my account profile. Everywhere else it's the old way in lower case.

Re: Site Bugs

Hi Sol ...

Linda already beat me to it. Good luck with getting the wrinkles smoothed out. A lot of work on your part and some patience on our part should make this transition a positive step. Looking forward to the days ahead when this puppy is chugging along nice and smooth.

Again, good luck with it. Best to you ...

Alan

Re: Site Bugs

Not sure if this is a bug or not, but I created a group in beta and had a lot more control over the group I just created called Swap Club. As admin of the group, shouldn't we be able to do forum stickies and assign others as mods?  Unless I'm missing where those controls are. Anyone?

Edited to add: found some controls, however when I went to publish one of my books into my group....it wanted over 300 of my 600 points to do it. WOWZA. So I went to change it to a non point thing and couldn't. Why would you not give the founder/mod the ability to change their mind? Do I need to start the group over?

Once you start a group and decide points/no points, it can't be changed. You can delete the group and start over. To delete, go to the group and then Members and delete yourself. Then you can recreate it.

Re: Site Bugs

Did anyone save the link to the old forums?  All my links are redirected here now.

Re: Site Bugs

Major problem - In the old site, you could click on any of the posted chapters of a novel. Now you have to start at Chapter 1 and keep advancing until you get to the chapter you want. Extremely inefficient! I suggest inserting at the top all of the posted chapters as with the old site. If I know I stopped at Chapter 15, say, of an author's work, I don't want to have to keep turning pages until I get to Chapter 16 to read and review. And this will also show us how many chapters have been posted. If we've caught up and are waiting for the next chapter to be posted, a quick check will tell us if a new chapter is now up.

The chapter header is a drop-down that will take you to any chapter. Also, on the Read listings you can pop the chapters open and navigate to any chapter. Does  this solve your problem?

The old site and forum will be back up tomorrow.

I saw that but wasn't sure if deleted myself if the members would still be there when I recreated it under the same name.

Ya, this is a major problem to posting. My costs to list my existing work in ONE points group is approximately 1300 pts.

You might consider grandfathering existing posts to list in points groups for a brief duration just while everyone gets settled in. OR give us the ability to post only specific chapters to new groups. That way, we can pay for only new content to appear.

What I mean is, my two current WIPs are in chapters 26 and 22.

My cost to post two chapters (27 and 23 alone) are artificially high because I must post 1-26 and 1-22 as well.

Admittedly, I could just create new novels and start at those chapters, posting links back to the originals. But this solution will make me feel hollow inside,

Re: Site Bugs

I can't seem to find the 'connect' button on anyone's profile page. I noticed that some members, like Ann Evans, already have connections, but I'm not able to even send a connect request. Is this a bug, or is it just missing on my page, or am I just not able to see it?
Thanks

There is a drop down menu that makes navigating chapters really easy--however, I agree that there should be a way for us to tell what's NEW since the last time we read.

Re: Site Bugs

Mrs. Piddles  --you can click on the forum name of any writer and get the option to connect that way. OR you can type their name into the little magnifying glass search bar up on the top of the screen and type the name of the writer you want to connect with. Once their page comes up, hit the connection button.

Re: Site Bugs

I agree that any previous content prior to the migration to this site shouldn't cost us to post to a new group. There should be grandfathering because we already paid to post those chapters.

Re: Site Bugs

Is there a way to search the help system to look something up?
Please provide a way to switch the color scheme.  This one is causing me eyestrain, increasing by the minute.

We can grandfather some content in. Maybe for the next week. If you want that, let me know which group you want that for.

You can also do the other alternative. The best way to publish select chapters to a different points group is to create another version of the manuscript and only publish those chapters to the points group you want. That way, you only have to pay for those chapters.

I'd like to see what consensus comes in on the matter as other users become acclimatized. I'll bring this up again once more have weighed in on it.

I get no button, only a menu of that person's profile page. If I click on connections it just tells me that this person has no connections and I should send them a connect request, but I can't find that button. I'm using internet explorer.

Are you able to watch the Connections video on this page? It shows you how to make a connection.

Re: Site Bugs

Sorry, I did all the above. The videos are very good and the instructions are clear, I just think my computer isn't playing well with yours. I think I'll try on my phone, then I'm going to sleep. Maybe if I give my computer the cold shoulder it will straighten up and fly right!

I know you all are doing as much as possible, it boggles my mind!

Re: Site Bugs

I get a connetion request.  I click to read the message, which appears tool-tips fashion.  Now I'd like to approve or disapprove the connection, but the control is covered by the message, which cannot be cleared by hitting escape, and does not seem to clear when you click elsewhere.  (I[m using IE right now.)  You have to switch tabs away and then come back.

ESC should clear it.  Clicking elsewhere should clear it.

The site also has the habit of logging me out, and Chrome on the phone cannot verify the site ID, or get a secure connection.

Not a bug, strictly, but a feature I do not want:   In order to exchange messages with people, I have to connect with them.  Once I do, my home page gets cluttered with what they 'shelve'.  I'd really like to be able to shut that second part off, or else not need to connect to send messages.  If the point of this to allow us to manage our interactions, the granularity between 'I can talk with him' and 'his side stuff appears on my page' seems quite coarse.

Hmmm yes... I noticed that. I read a piece and when I reached the end, I was kicked out. Good thing I didn't happen to be typing a review or else I'd probably have had to retype it.

I get kicked off--dropped off, probably--when I sleep the flaptop to preserve the battery while I turn elsewhere.

Edit: I notice that the quoted text is about twice as large as the response.  Is this intended?  Is it meant to discourage quoting too much and adding too little?
Edit: Do messages disappear when they are read?  If so, I'll have to remember to copy-paste them somewhere if there's anything I need to look into later.
