Topic: RE-publishing

So I've got a book chapter that I've done considerable revisions on. I would like to REpublish it. So, you know, it can get a fresh look-see on the front page of the website. Seems that this was a viable option back at the old website but now... I can't seem to wing it. Is it just me and my vanity and I oughta get over it? Or has this option been removed altogether?

Re: RE-publishing

Change the version number.

How does the version number differ from the draft number?

I did that last night and it didn't show in my groups so I  made a whole new version and post it instead and I have two versions of the same essay. What am I doing wrong? sad

Re: RE-publishing

Nothing.  But you need to make the old version inactive.

I'm used to thinking of version control as a system for creating snapshots of the text and then, if necessay, creating branches off the snapshots.  This isn't that.

Re: RE-publishing

This really isn't that hard. Here's the step-by-step for creating a new chapter version.

1. Go to Your Porftolio.
2. Click the title you want to add a new version to.
3. Go to the Content sub-tab.
4. Click the add chapter button
5. Fill in this chapter and increment the version to whatever number you want.
6. Click Save and Publish
7. Go to the Publish page and publish the new chapter.
8. Done.

At that point, you can keep the old version active, or not. You do not change the version number on the old version, this will overwrite the old version. Instead, you have the option of creating an entirely new version and keeping it within the book. There is no need to create a new book, etc. This will bring it to the top of the list and it will also preserve the old version should you want to refer to it, etc. This is a true version system. The old republish system was not a version system at all.

Try it, you might like it.
