I take it you'll only publish articles which are worthy? Also who is the audience and how will the articles be delivered?

We'll only accept articles we would proud enough to display through the site. The articles will be included in our newsletters and also featured in a Resource section we are building.

The audience are writers just like you who want more insight and information into how to improve their writing, publish their work, and promote it. You would be writing for yourself smile.

TheNextBigWriter is going to produce a weekly series of articles that discuss different aspects of the craft and business of writing, editing, publishing, and promoting. The site will pay $20 per article. Please either PM me or email me at snasisi (at) thenextbigwriter.com with any article pitches you may have.

In doing inline reviews, I often leave two or more comments for the same selected word or sentence (for separate feedback about the same item). I then write my closing comments, which can be long. Today, I wanted to read those secondary and tertiary comments, so I clicked on x-line to see all of them. My very long closing comments were wiped out. Fortunately, I suspected that might happen, so I copied the closing comments to the clipboard. I was then able to paste them back in. Since x-lines are available when leaving reviews, this could easily burn someone. Not sure if there is an easy fix.

This is odd. Will check it out.

Just a note, even if I don't respond to your comment doesn't mean we won't check it out.

Sol, ths one's for you and the team.  Amy, don't change this until Sol's seen it!
Go to Amy_s`s new Chapter 17, Dictates of Faith.  Start an inline review.  As the FIRST comment, go to the second paragraph, first two sentences beginning with 'this', the second one italicized.  Try to capture the first sentence and the first word of the second sentence for the comment.  You will find that the machinery captures the whole of both sentences.  Cancel the comment and try again.  You will find that you cannot start a new comment until you reload the page.
I suspect that there are at least two bugs at work here, both probably design errors.  My distant guess is that there's an XHTML or HTML representation and something is jumping over a -span-.  If that's not it, it doesn't matter; it is a bug, and might reveal a lot about the other glitchen people are hitting when selecting text.
The second one, I am guessing, has to do either with cleaning up on the cancel or with something that confuses an empty set (however represented) with no set.  Again, distant guess.
Please have a look at this frustrating mmisbehavior.  Thanks ...

I checked it out and see what you mean with highlighting. This is most likely due to a span or some other html tag interefering with the selection process. I'll pass it along.

I did not have to reload the page though. I'll keep trying to replicate that bug.

Hi Heather, Glad you found out how to review.

Premium Membership is $8.95 per month, $21.95 per quarter, or $69.95 per year.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

Best,
Sol

HI Max,

The image should be landscape with some space to put text. If you want to get some idea of what we need, logout of the site and go to the homepage. There is an image of a moon. This is the idea. We can overlay text and links.

Once we have the image, we can modify it so that it will work across all devices. We just need some artistic talent applied to it. The graphic will not refresh - just one image. Unless we get so many great submissions that we have more than one to show off.

The dimensions should be something like 1920 x 572 pixels.

If this doesn't mean anything to you, don't worry. We can take the drawing or artwork and scan it in.

Does that answer your questions?

Sol

Hi everyone,

I know we have some talented artists on the site and I'd like to enlist your help. I'd like to create an image that will go in some ads as well as the homepage of the site (replacing the image of the moon). I wanted to see if anyone had an interest in putting something together for this. In return, I'd promote the artist and pay $30 for any image that is used. If you are interested, let me know.

Requirements:

Original artwork that captures your feeling of what it is like to be a writer. It can deal with the creative process, the imagination, the physical typing of information. I'd just like for it to be inspirational.  This will serve as a key piece in getting potential members to take a look at the site and potentially become members.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks,
Sol

Hi all,
I just posted lesson 3 on verb tenses. Give it a read. Remember for the homework to use the site's posting tool to put the assignment up.

The Sorcerers Progress: Children and Beasts has two Chapter 21's.  The second, Lunch at Logchem's, should be number 27.  While it might be possible to fiddle with other numbers to make this one accessible, I'm afraid of making things worse.  Can you set it right?

Why can't you just set it to number 27 yourself?

Amazon announced some details of its new pay to read program. This article says Kindle Unlimited and Lending Library will now pay about $.006 per page read. Some are crying foul others are saying this is a good way to prevent some authors from gaming the system. Any thoughts?

Leguin does change perspective a few times in the chapter, but does so skillfully.

It can certainly be done but it's not easy for a beginner writer to pull it off smoothly.

Hi J Smith, it looks like you haven't posted your content to any groups. Right now only people you are connected to can read what you have posted. To change this:

1. Go to your portfolio.
2. Click on the title.
3. Go to the publish settings page.
4. Choose a group to publish to. TheNextBigWriter Premium is the latest group.
5. Click the red update settings button. As long as you have enough points, it will publish the work. If you don't have enough points you can earn them by reviewing others whose work pays points.
6. That should do it.

In the video help section there is a video on posting content that you might find helpful.
Let me know if you have any further problems or need additional assistance.

Sol

Hi everyone,

We're going to take the difficulty up a notch this week and tackle POV. I often see writing with shifting POV, something called head-hopping. Head-hopping can confuse the reader and take them out of the story. Understanding POV is a crucial tool for any writer.

Lesson two on point of view (POV) has been posted. Please read it over. There are also several homework assignments to complete as part of the lesson.
You can read the lesson here:

Let me know if you have questions.
Thanks,
Sol

Some things are best said up front.

So you want to be able to leave a comment before you've even read the piece? I must be missing something here.

I WOULD REALLY APPRECIATE AN ANSWER EVEN IF IT'S JUST THAT YOU DON'T KNOW. IT'S A PAIN IN THE ASS WHEN I AM ON MY KINDLE AND HAVE TO WAIT AS IF I AM USING DAIL UP ONLY TO GET A TIMED OUT MESSAGE. I USE MY KINDLE A LOT.

I don't know. This is not a site issue as the site has no impact on your wifi connection and I have not heard of this issue from anyone else.

But the way the inline-comment system works, the comment is started as soon as the capture occurs, and there is no chance to correct it.

You can edit any in-line comment you leave. There is an edit button if you mouse-over the right side of the comment or tap there if on a mobile device.

100 words. It was originally drafted as a Droubble and it looks like the term wasn't removed. Thanks for your help.

Good question. I'll post feedback to every assignment and in some will state that you should review your classmates. You don't need to review others for this assignment.

Hi Adrian,

Thanks for catching that. It should be Premium. I've made the change. I copied it from a prior contest and missed changing that line.

Hi all,

We just launched the Apple Drabble writing competition today. Write a story that involves an apple in exactly 100 words. Apples of all fruit inhabit a prominent place across many cultures so we want to see what you can come up with. Have fun!

After you have read it, it disappears.

The last three posts are displayed as New.

I'm closing this thread as its run a bit off course. If you want to discuss politics or race relations feel free to do it in another group. I don't want these discussions in Premium though as they usually lead to extremely divisive arguments. The group below is specifically set up for any type of conversation, debate, argument.
