I have no idea where to post announcements of any kind anymore, max.
This is a great place for announcements.

Yes, I will see about removing that. Thanks for the feedback.
Lesson 1 on the use of paragraphs has been posted. It includes two assignments.

Please be sure to post the assignments using the site's posting system and not this forum. Posting it to the site allows me and others to use the inline review functionality as well as other review functionality.
Let me know if you have any questions.

Sol-just wanted to find out if the formatting option for Kindle you introduced a week or two ago was for Kindle Scout, or regular Kindle publication? JP
It's an html format that can be used for Kindle, B&N, and probably Kindle Scout. I'm not sure what format Scout requires the work to be submitted in.
I'm happy to announce the winners of the 2015 Strongest Start Novel Competition. The grand prize winner is:
The Laundromat at the Edge of the Universe by Ronald Quark
The two runner-ups are:
Congratulations!
I also want to thank BookBaby and Pubslush for helping to sponsor the competition this year.

Today, in about one hour.
I wanted to update everyone on when we will announce the winners. I am waiting on word from one more judge, who told me they will be ready bu Tuesday. So, if that holds, I will announce the results on Wed, June 10.
I do wish the closed contests had an update with the winners and a link to their winning entry. Announcing only in the sponsoring group forum seems to reduce the publicity of the contests.
Good idea. I will do tomorrow for all of the contests we have run so far.
What operating system and browser are you using? I just tested it with the text you provided and it posted okay. Did you type the review directly into the box or paste it from somewhere else?
What makes you think you didn't receive your points?
I checked and it looks like you first did an in-line review and received .63 points for it. You then did two reviews withthe following text.
"Mary had a little lamb whose fleas were white as snow and everywhere merry Mary went the lamb was sure to go."
This only has 22 words but even if it was longer you wouldn't receive points again; you already received them for the in-line review. Once you review a piece, whether in-line or regular you don't receive points again if you do another review. There is no double points for leaving an in-line and regular review.

Is this not the correct scenario? Am I missing something here?
Sol
I'll look into it.
Basic members can read and leave both regular and inline reviews. They just can't post to points groups or access any inline reviews they receive.
Welcome SJ! Nice to have you aboard. It sounds like you'll have a busy but productive year.
I received this email. I am not endorsing this in any way but rather passing the information along.
Greetings!

I received an email from a contact at Amazon today asking if TheNextBigWriter wanted to work with them on Kindle Scout. Has anyone tried this program? I'd be interested in any feedback.
I wanted to offer qualified members of the site the opportunity to teach a writing class on the site. If you have a specialty in a particular area of writing and feel like you can impart some of this wisdom on others, contact me and we can see about setting up a class. Classes can range from free to fee-based. If you decide to charge for your class, you keep 70% of any income generates while the site get's the other 30% to cover costs.
Class topics can be on writing in a certain genre, marketing your writing, novel writing workshops (write a novel in 90 days with this class), etc. Basically, any topic that you think other writers might be interested in can be covered.
If you are interested, contact me at snasisi (at) thenextbigwriter.com.
Thanks,
Sol
Hi,
Welcome to an Introduction to Creative Writing!
I'm very excited to be teaching this class. As a warm-up, I'd like everyone to provide a quick introduction. If you're new to the class, go ahead and tell us a little bit about yourself. Don't be shy! Please include the following:
(1) What type of writing (romance, horror, science fiction, etc.) do you like to do?
(2) When did you start writing?
(3) Who are a couple of your favorite authors?
(4) What's a fun or quirky fact about you?
The goal of the class is to teach you some of the basics of creative writing while having a good time.
Thanks,
Sol
What device did you post it from? And what program?
That's strange. I just did two posts within four seconds of each other. But it could be because I am an admin. I'll check it out. It sounds like an anti-spam provision.
There isn't any one minute rule that I am aware of.
You do know that you can move chapters around on the site, right? The chapter numbers on the Content page can be renumbered.
Thanks KH. I'll look into the format for the file and test out on my windows machine.
In terms of chapter order, it should take the order that you have the chapters listed on the site. Was that not the case?
Some of you might have noticed a new eBook Generator that is now available on the Publish tab when you go into the publishing process for work posted to the site. This tool is designed to take posted content and convert it into an .html format that can be uploaded to Amazon, BN.com, or other eBook distributors. Our hope is that for those who don't want to fool around with formats and conversion services, this will provide a simple, one-button solution to prepare your writing to be sold.
If there are other features or elements you would like to see on the file, let us know. We've spent the last couple of weeks identifying and fixing conversion issues but if you come across any, please drop us a line.
Thanks,
Sol
