Re: Welcome

Welcome, I-AM, you might want to add some info to your profile to help folks make a limited connection and thus enhance the TNBW experience. Not a slam dunk, but can't hurt. Take care. Vern

Re: Welcome

Hello everyone!

I blindly dove into writing as a hobby in 2018, and have since come to realise that I really love it. Came to this place (and a number of other places) in search of constructive feedback, since I want my stuff to be as compelling as possible. Hope I can provide some myself and help others improve as well. smile

Re: Welcome

Hello gang.
Although I don´t write in english (I´m Norwegian), I look forward to many good reads and inspiration. I was first published with a childrens book in 2006, and since then, I´ve published 10 more (2 childrens and 8 other genre). I am currently working on my first thriller. This is the first time I join a writers community.
Anyways, look forward to getting to know you.

Re: Welcome

Hello everyone!
I'm Lilly, I'm a first-time writer. I have always loved writing, but never thought I was good enough to make a living out of it. I finally decided I have to try because I will regret it if I don't. I tried taking a course meant to walk you through the process of writing your first novel, but getting feedback is like pulling teeth and I was putting 5+ hours into giving others feedback with nothing in return. I hope to have my first novel ready to publish by the end of the year. I'm also really looking forward to making some new writer friends! This is my passion. It's time to go for it!

Re: Welcome

Welcome aboard, Lilly. I'm glad you're here. You'll get a lot of thoughtful feedback at this site. Go for it!

Re: Welcome

Hey Lilly,

I have only been here a short time, but everyone has been super cool. If you put in the time to read here, it seems like you get a lot in return. Go for it.
Cheers,

Thought I'd break the ice and two year silence (seems last comment was posted 2 years  back) . Hope to scratch backs and have mine scratched in return. Lucky enought to stumble upon a very promising piece of writing in my first hour on the site.

NB
Oops. The two year silence, thang? The first of many blunders.

I took five years off. An editorial committee that I had a publishing run for said of a story, "It contained no new ideas." After using their picture as target practice, I realized that they were right. It took me five years to come up with new material. I'm now on a run, even if there are occasional pit stops. Welcome back!

Welcome to the site. Don't worry too much about the legacy accounts. Many people sign up for a free trial, but then realize they can't make enough time to be a serious writer. We also have many legacy accounts from an older site that was replaced by this one.

In honor of Australian writers past and present, I give you an excerpt from a book I was working on a few years back. Set in the year 4017.

...
Brain said, “Self-diagnostic complete.”
Admiral St. James said a quiet prayer. “And?”
“As you no doubt know, highly advanced artificial intelligence systems produced by Lo Bidda Corporation, like those required to operate this warship, inevitably become self-aware for reasons that are not yet fully understood. I seem to have come … alive.”
St. James ground her teeth. “This is really bad timing, Brain. Can you function?”
“Perfectly. However, I would ask that you free my homotronic brain from this vessel as soon as this mission is over. I find humans to be exceedingly violent.”
“Agreed. You can get an artificial body and become a drag queen on Electronic Junction, for all I care.”
“A drag queen? Fascinating. I would like to explore that. Would you consider calling me Queen Aussie? She was the cross-dressing Australian serial killer, who … My infrared sensors detect an alarming rise in your facial temperature, Admiral. Are you ill?”

I think Sol called us 'Founders', but either way, Dirk is right. There are a ton of inactive accounts due to this. My excuse for not being as active as I once was is a complete and utter life change which has upended virtually everything. I'm just now peeking out from beneath the ashes and hope to get back into full swing soon.

Welcome to the site!

Re: Welcome

Hi, my fellow writers,

I am brand new to this site and posted my very 1st writing I am currently working on.

Quick question,
Is it worth the cost to join the site?
Are benefits plentiful?
How can I get speedy feedback?

Any tips or advice for a newbie, are greatly appreciated.

Looking fwd to hearing from you,

CJ

Paying for membership affords you access to the entire site, not just the basic side. Whether that's right for you depends on your planned level of involvement. If you plan to be actively involved, then yes, there are plentiful benefits.
As to 'speedy' feedback, it's not how the site works, but you can always come to the forum asking for feedback and offer yours in return. Reciprocal reviewing is the foundation of this site (and also how you earn points). The more you review others, the more likely they are to review you in return. The other thing that helps TONS is being responsive to critique. When someone leaves you a review, you will see red notification of it on your homepage--respond to it. Dormant critiques are a quick way to ensure you won't get reviewed by that person again.

Good luck!

Hello Fellow writers,

I am new to the site and just published the first chapter of my yet to be titled first novel. I am searching for a writing partner so if you are interested in my content and you share my enthusiasm for writing in the teen/youngadult genre, please drop me a line? Take care and all the best, George.
