I found a really useful tool for character study on 'Now Novel'. It asks loads of questions about the characters, including things I wouldn't normally think of. Thanks for the idea, CJ.
I think Alicia's relationship with her father develops more after Christmas. Right now, they're like strangers sharing a house, both are shy/scared/intimated by the other. Alicia, obviously, thinks her father blames her for everything and so doesn't deserve parental kindness, while her father is a little socially awkward and has no idea how to engage with a 15 year old girl.
I think (hope) it is the calm before the storm, but I hope you continue to give me your opinion on this subject because each of these questions is making me think about Being Fifteen at a new level!

I found some helpful tips in here. Maybe they help you too.

Hi Gacela,
Just saw your message about bundling. It's a really nice offer and I'm so grateful you thought of me, as that sounds sooo good! But I'm not sure what I'm going to do with Being Fifteen. It's still a work in progress with a lot of improvement needed and I don't think I'll be moving it forward any time soon.
It will be really interesting to hear about your experience of self-publishing, though, and if I can help in any other way, please do let me know!!

Any luck with getting your membership running again, Sheriff Norm? I know someone else had difficulty this month because of a website glitch, so it must be just that.
Stephen King said you should write everyday, and in fact he forces himself too. I can't take his advice because I've been trying to read The Shining for the past week and keep falling asleep after a few pages!

Those are super helpful suggestions! Exactly the kinds of things I'm looking for. I've downloaded some of those books you mentioned, Rhiannon & Gacela!

I agree, Sheriff Norm, that reviews on TNBW are hugely helpful & I've learned so much here but I would also like to learn some tools to use that I may not have thought of before, just new ideas to do things differently.

That's so strange you can't resubscribe, but I've heard of this happening before! I hope Saul fixes it for you!!

so what's happening next with Where Heaven & Hell Meet? Are you going to publish all of your edited chapters again?

Daphne de Maurier - the inspiration of most of Hitchcock's movies! Writer of Rebecca (one of the best books i've ever read, at least 10 times) Why is she so good? Dunno! But she's so good that I can never bear to take my eyes off the story to focus on the writing and why it's so good.

I don't know any of the influencers you mentioned, probably because I don't really read SF, but will have to take a look!

@Stephanie, you're up next in my rotation, but I guess you're still having issues because I don't see your work anywhere. I'll skip ahead to Cobber for now & will come back to you when you're up and running again!

I loved that extra section - I had the feeling that the interactions between Rhiannon and her father really brought both of their characters to life, and the same with Queen Branwen. There was something so warm and and genuine in the dialogue, but I can't put my finger on it. Definitely keep this section in!

Has anyone ever read a book that really helped them improve their writing (style/theme/literary devices/characterisation/inspiration/etc...)

I haven't read anything, and was wondering if anyone has something they'd strongly recommend.

Portfolio > Action > Edit > Content > Action > View Chapter

I usually save without publishing and then viewing it. It has the format it'll have when it's published.

part 2 is really a second book, maybe called "Pretending to be"

I just got stuck on Sarah's story for a while so I switched my attention to cleaning this up as I'd already written it. That's why I just posted on the end of Being Fifteen.

The point of it is that Alicia wanted to go back to her friends, but had to stay in Dublin. It shows how she struggles resuming an old life in Dublin, but eventually she does end up back where she wanted to be.

In fact, I forgot about the canal story! I wrote about sixteen chapters and then got distracted by Sarah's story.

And everyone in this group is precious! smile

Hi all, Just got to the end of my rotation with Alkemi's work and noticed that NJC has been added to the list (I somehow missed that information).
So...Just to confirm, I add NJC to my rotation after Alkemi, right?

Gacela, yes you're right, I should have put it into a separate book here, but I'm only planning on putting up a few chapters of it at the moment so didn't want to create something separate.

Rhiannon, your comments and suggestions are always so creative. I'd love to understand how your imagination works!!

Just wanted to let you know I've been gone and that now I'm back. For the past 4 weeks I've been 100% offline (no phones, computers, anything). I'm back now, and will start catching up on all the reviews on my to-do list as soon as I can.

Hmm...interesting question!! I never thought about why, I just do it. I will have to give this a bit more thought before coming back with a proper answer!!

Congrats!

no, no, that won't possibly work. Don't you know he eats black-olive pizza everyday after hearing about Melissa's experience with caustic soda?

+when I saw GOT in your comment I had to stop reading as I'm still on Season 3. (It's taking me a long time to get over the red wedding).

The best thing is there's no pressure in this group and no expectations, so no stress! :-)
