Topic: Request: See Before Publish

Sol, is there a way to make it possible to see a work between submission and publishing, so that you can see if something's gone wrong with formatting?  Maybe allow the View button on the publish page for the work in question?

Re: Request: See Before Publish

A Preview button is a great idea. Just like getting ready to post this answer, there is a Preview button.

Re: Request: See Before Publish

Or allow you to see your own unpublished work.

Re: Request: See Before Publish

You can see the work immediately after you publish it, and there's an edit button that takes you back to edit it further if you need it. I guess if reviewers view the writing right after you publish it, this could be a problem. Is the current process that onerous?

Re: Request: See Before Publish

I don't think it's needed. It could be a problem if, as Sol said, right after publication somebody checks it while there are still corrections needed.

Let's be honest: the probability such might happen is so low, and the consecuences so negligible, I don't think it's worth the amount of work required to modify the site.

Re: Request: See Before Publish

It is a frustrating and embarrrassing thimg, which is why I asked.

Re: Request: See Before Publish

I usually save without publishing and then viewing it. It has the format it'll have when it's published.

Re: Request: See Before Publish

When I do that, I can't see it.  How do you get to it?

Re: Request: See Before Publish

If it's a new chapter, saving it will not publish it (it's two separate steps), meaning you can follow Suin's instructions to view your chapter before you publish it. If the chapter had already been published and you are editing it (making some change or correction, or rewriting it following the reviewers' advice, etc.) once you hit the "SAVE" button it is automatically published and it's visible to everybody. HOWEVER, you are taken immediately to a "view" screen where you can check what has just been published. There you can check whether you're satisfied with the changes.

If you are not, you can hit your browser's backwards button and you'll be back in the editing environment, where you can perform any other correction required before hitting the "save" button again. While it's true your chapter will be visible with "errors" while you check/correct your post, the probability somebody may be reviewing your work exactly in that moment is very low.

Re: Request: See Before Publish

Hmm.  I tried that and don't recall View and the new chapter appearing together.  But if it is possible to view it, then a view button for that row on the Publish page seems a small and simple change.

Re: Request: See Before Publish

Don't see a problem here. You can place the story on "inactive" as soon as it is published should you desire to do so and continue editing until the cows come home before making it active again. I dare say it would be a million to one shot if anyone could sneak in a review in the time it takes to click the "inactive" button. And hey, if someone beats those odds congratulate them and then get them to buy you, no me, a lottery ticket. Take care. Vern

Yes... As Suin says. Here's me viewing my inactive-never-published chapter 7
