Hey Bunny,

Got my copy of your book. Looks good.

Hope the signing goes well!

There is nothing quite like seeing your book in print.

Even it's a CreateSpace book of poetry.  smile  I love seeing my name in print.

Oh posts disappear all the time before I get a chance to read them.  You consonantly have to scour 'old' listings.  If three people post, then 3 more post in the same forum.   The older 3 seem to be come non-highlighted quickly.

Hi,
I also posted this in Basic too.

I just published Volume 2 of my poetry in the Lighter Fluid Series.  Starting on the 8th of March, I'll be doing a giveaway on Goodreads.

I'm linking to my general website below with poetry samples, audio...and a link to the Giveaway.  Please consider joining the Giveaway!

Hi,

I'm not sure this is the right forum for this as I'm still a bit navigation impaired on the new site.
I published in print and Kindle my new volume of poetry,  Life and Lighter Fluid: Poems of a Wild Tirzah (Volume 2). Every poem was workshopped on TNBW.

If you've read my poems and would be kind enough to do a review, I'd appreciate it.  If you haven't read any of mine, I'll be doing a book giveaway next week and  you could be a lucky winner.

I've been slowly turning stuff off--but it's taking forever.
And I don't know when I turn it back on--if I'll be point charged for it.

I wish I could just put 'out fishing' sign...for a few weeks.  I don't want someone to leave a review and think I'm ignoring them.
I guess I can try to keep checking in---but I won't have much free time.
T

Sounds like fun...  but I'm not going to be 'available' for a few weeks due to personal issues.

sad

Maybe when I get back?

T

Is there anyway to hang a "not available sign" on my account or make my content not visible for a few weeks?

I don't want to leave reviews 'hanging' but at the same time, I'm not really available right now.   I could disable my account--yes...but I'm not gone forever just for a month or so (mentally gone/work).

Is there any way to just freeze my account or hide it a few weeks?

Hi Bunnies,

I've had to learn a lot of self-publishing ins and outs on my own.   I've put together a website that gathers the information on how to use CreateSpace, how to make an E-Book and where to start with Marketing.

Can you get some feedback on the site?  I'm really trying to make it user friendly and a 'help-site'.

It's not 100% done...but it's getting there.

As a writer, what would have helped you?

Music is great for quick fight scenes. Gives the action movement.
Don't like it for dialogue as it gets in the way.

For dialogue I put the TV on Home and Garden and then tune it out like white noise.

I wrote better directions for MOBI file creation that makes it much easier to do with fewer errors.

I wrote up simple MOBI conversion instructions for the CALIBRE Website.  You may still need to the long version but I had success with this version (FINALLY!).
And it was a bit more streamlined than most of the instructions.

This is the guide I use to create MOBI files using Word and Calibre:

Since I'm now used to the process, I can create an ebook in about 10-15 minutes. Alternatively, you can upload your Word file to www.draft2digital.com, just far enough into the process where they convert it to mobi and epub. Then you can download it for free.

THANK YOU!  I love getting new sites to play with.

TirzahLaughs, the prob with the simple Calibre conversion is that some symbols (even the quotation marks) can turn into weird stuff like squares or smiley faces. Also, I'm not sure if an Calibre is able to create an index using simple conversion. That's why I'm recommending the long route, which, to be honest, is only time consuming but it's amazingly simple.

Now, the simple solution is to hire somebody to do it for you. If Sol can do it, and if you don't want to get into further trouble, hire him.

Kiss,

Gacela.

I found the directions on the link to be convoluted and hard to follow.  I was on page 3 before he said anything usable and it was lost in all the 'talking'.
I wish it was cleaner and just gave me the steps.

My thought is to try the simplest version first...before going to the complicated.

Its good to have the option though.

The following is a link to a complete fool- and author-proof guide to MOBI formatting for Amazon. You don't need to be computer savvy to follow it because it explains the process step by step. You only need to download two programmes (Calibre and another one), both for free and virus-free, and invest from three to four hours to convert a 70000 words novel.

Yes, three to four hours. Nobody said it was a fast process if you want to end up with a professional product. However, the time is worth the result. Of course, there's people who will gladly do it for you for a fee. It all depends on your budget. Prob is that, after spending on the proof-reading, the cover artwork, etc, you may wanna save a coupla pence on the MOBI file creation, which is something you can do yourself.

Kiss,

Gacela

That's why I loaded the Calibre Quick Guide to Mobi above.  For those who want something simple, the PDF I attached will allow them to do a simple MOBI conversion in Calibre.   It took ten minutes.

The more complicated your manuscript layout, the more you may have to go the long route with HTML. But if you just need a simple Mobi file with basic chapters and no weird formatting...the Quick Guide will do it for you.

FYI...I found my hyperlinked word chapters flowed through to the TOC in Calibre!  Yeah me!

Would it be helpful if we converted them for you? It's something we are playing with.

I think most authors would appreciate.  Many of the less techy ones pay companies to do it for them. The more techny google and do trial/error.

Honestly creating Mobi Kindle files will give me a stroke. If you want to create your MOBI (kINDLE EBOOK) FILE yourself,  you can.  There are a couple of free programs to convert it...but honestly none of them are 'super clear' on how to use the programs.  I find tech people rarely write 'clear' instructions.

But depending on how complicated your manuscript is, you can use Calibre to convert your file to MOBI.
I recommend following the directions below...as it is the easiest version I've found.

CALIBRE
http://www.guidingtech.com/6601/how-to- … i-or-html/
DIRECTIONS.

Some tips:
Edit your metadata (book title/author name) in Calibre
Remove page numbers for E-books.
Make sure you've include a front page or Dedication Info
Your formatting will change in the e-book.  No indents in ebooks.  Just FYI.
When you convert the file, the TOC option will pop up (but not until that page).  If you want a TOC, you can click the auto version here.  If it doesn't work, there is a work-around.

ALWAYS read through your entire KINDLE/MOBI file for errors.
If you find conversion errors, you'll have to go the longer route.

SOLN--I still can't edit.

What is going on with the copy instructions?  CMD key?

When I say clean...I scrub my history, files and defrag...clean.

I clean my computer on a daily basis due to large files I run.
It's the CMD key function that is the problem.  I don't have a CMD key as that is a MAC function.

Oh...Firefox normally but I tried Chrome too.
I can post anywhere but TNBW.

I use to be able to edit on here but it now says  CMD +CnTRL + C to copy.  It use to be  Ctrl + C.   It used to work.  It does not now.

The notes changes as did my ability to edit.

I stayed with 7.1 as I hated the 8.0 upgrade.
