It use to be CTRL C to copy and Ctrl V to paste.

Now it's asking for a CMD key which is normally a Mac Thing.  I cannot get the copy or paste to work.  Grrr.

Hi AGAIN,

I'm trying to edit but I'm getting really frustrated.

It keeps saying  CMD+ CntrL + V  to paste.
I googled and the CMD is the WINDOWS start button.  But I can't get it work.

Basically I have to hand type all corrections manually.
I also can't copy.

WHat is this CMD (Command) kEY?  It is driving me crazy.  I tried ALT but that didn't work.

I USE A PC.

For me, the easiest definition of literary fiction is fiction that focuses more on the person rather than plot.

Okay, I can't reach it from my portfolio at all.
I was in the completely wrong place.

I had to go back to the front screen which now says 0 ...then click all reviews, sort it for received ...THEN I could reopen it.

All right.  Just seemed odd I couldn't get to it from the Portfolio page.

Replied.

I cannot figure out how to get there.

The review no longer offers that option.
I can't seem to figure how to open it again.

Sorry.

I'm just dumfounded.

Hi,

I received two very nice regular reviews.  I didn't reply right away after I read them.  Now I can't reply.  I didn't realize if I closed the screen, I could no longer reply back on that specific review.

Grrr!

Am I yet again doing something wrong?

I looked but couldn't figure out how it worked.
Post where on what blog?

Julia's or yours?

Can you clarify?

Hi,

I'm wondering if I'm doing something wrong.
I posted a new poem on Feb 2.  It is still not on the front page.
My privacy settings are full on--except for the last option as I didn't want it open to the Internet.

Why does that poem never show on the front page?  On my computer, the poems listed haven't shifted in days.  Has no published since that date?

General rule of thumb is if it's password protected, not available to the general public and can't be googled...then it's not considered published.

So TNBW work is not published because your work is not available to general public readers without logging in.
HOwever if you sign a publishing contract, they will often require you pull it from critique sites as well.

I'll keep an eye as it progresses.

I hated not to mention the issue but I'm willing to give it time to let it progress.

Thus the effect of the present group structure is to exclude rather than to include.  The present group structure is a mix of what's needed to create a private, separate community and what's needed to create a discussion in one corner of a public space.
The mix isn't quite right.

All of this conversation really boils down to the fact that a group on the new site really want the old forum structure back. Well, my suggestion is that this group should go back to the old site or wait until I bring the old forum to this site in some form. But for new groups, the new site does not, and will not use the same forum structure as the old one. I have specific reasons for doing so. One of them is that  the old site, as much as some people liked it, was not a success from a user standpoint. It catered to a very narrow audience of writers. This is not a recipe for success in any type of site. So, I am not going to return to something that didn't work.

We can and will improve the forums. We can add search features and other items to make using the forums easier and this we will do.

We have a lot planned for 2015 and look forward to moving forward, not back.

One of the reasons I've stayed with TNBW (besides the reviews) was the quality conversations on writing and other topics related to it.  Now no one is talking.  I keep waiting and waiting...but it's like no one is either on the site or no one is willing to use the new forum.   It's the same four people talking and none of them are really talking about writing or related topics.   Maybe there are conversations happening and I can't find them.  Since groups are limited...you have to manually search all groups that you aren't a member of to see if there are any new conversations.  It's frustrating.

There is no way to check all groups (whether I'm a member or not) to see if there are new conversations going on.  The manual search is not helpful when I am only looking for the new conversations.  I don't want to search each group I'm not a member of manually.

I really find the Forums frustrating.

Although the new site is visually prettier,  I don't like the new forums.
The new forums never seem to have any conversations going on.  One of my favorite parts of TNBW was reading the discussion in the forums on books, grammar, writing, publishing, history.

Now either no one is posting any conversations or there is no easy way to find them.
It's like one of my favorite parts of the site has died.

Is no one talking or am I just cut out of the conversations?

My first reaction to the new TNBW site was very positive. That was twenty minutes ago.
I encountered a problem which should be of interest to the team who designed the site.

My latest book, developed in the TNBW workshop, was published three months ago. When I uploaded its front cover page, its image was distorted by extra text that was not on the cover. When I tried to remove the picture so I can try it again, I found that there was no way to remove it.

I'll try it again tomorrow.

You have to turn the text off.

When you uploaded the cover  there is an option that is checked for 'add title/author'.  If you click this and turn it off, the text will no longer appear.

www.gutenberg.org  has most classic novels up for free to read (public domain) including Middlemarch,  Jane Eyre,  Lady in White,  Frankenstein, Northanger Abbye, A Study in Scarlet,  Wuthering Heights,  The Picture of Dorian Gray....and many others.  Some even have  audio books or  reader versions if you don't like PC reading.

JUST FYI.

Here is a link to NOrth and South:

I am immensely fond of 'The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock".  Although full of melancholy and a bit of angst...I love that pieces of the language are like unexpected sweets.

I think whether you are a man or a woman...we have all felt inadequate,  unable to act ...swallowed by our own insecurities. That's what Prufrock does.  It gives voice to all that self-doubt/anxiety but in a way where the language still brings beauty.

"the sirens are singing but they will not sing to me" (paraphrase).

The truth?  I'm reading a collection of lovely trashy novels set in the early 1800's (England).
I also just re-read The Secret Garden, a childhood classic.

I just started  "Eaters of the Dead", a retelling of Beowulf that I've heard good things about.

Hey Tirz, the only forum that is something like the one we had on the old site--in that every member can automatically see it is this Classic one. It has no sticky headers like our old one did--but it is the only one that EVERYONE can see. He mentioned wanting to move away from the central forum theme so that we concentrate more on group functions. I too read posts and rarely respond to all because it helped me get to know new people, and keep up with old friends too. That won't change much as long as people keep posting on CLASSIC, but I have a feeling once groups really begin to take hold--classic won't be nearly as active anymore. Who knows, I hope I'm wrong. And I hope I didn't confuse you more smile

Thanks! That's how I feared it would work.
In the past, they could post in their own forum...but it was on the main page so I could read it...and often did. I found some great discussions (ones I didn't reply on) on technique, writing, book series.

Now I feel like I'll be blind to half the content of the site.

I hope people use the classic...but like you I feel they won't.

I also wish I could click on Forums form the main page...not to go into the group first.
Will the newbies ever find it?

LOL.

Is there one place to access this forum?

Or there multiple forums all over the place.  How can see where the new posts are?

I feel like I'm looking at part but not all...and I'm not sure I'm in the right place.
I have to go in a group to get a forum...so am I seeing the forum for the 1 group?

Or is all groups?

I actually read a lot of the forum posts even if I don't respond...and now I 'm not sure if I'm doing this right.
