I don't know what that means - active vs inactive. My poems and short story are ancient compared to my novels. None have had a review in years - long before any of the novels had received a review. So I don't get it.

On the old site you could enable or disable content.

Active = enabled
Inactive = Disabled

Inactive means that your content has been published but it is not visible on the site.

On my home page, I have a notice that I have 2 review replies. I have searched high and low for them and cannot find them.

Did you click the notice on your homepage? Those will bring you right to them. You can also click Reviews and then Regular Posted. Your latest reviews and the replied will be there.

This is the second time it's happened--I did some major rewrite to one of my chapters, and when I hit save, I got kicked out of the site, to a red-outlined sign-in page.  That wouldn't be so bad, but all my work was lost.  (I do have back-up.)   What happened?  Also, I don't see any help for republishing.  With chapters split to form more chapters, should I just publish as if it's a new work?  Thanks.  JP

There is a problem that the site login session isn't lasing long enough. If you are "idle" for a period of time, you could get kicked off. We are in the process of fixing this and should have it done by next week. Sorry about this.

Republishing has been changed. Now you can version a chapter. So, instead of republishing, you can create Chapter 1, v2, etc. This allows you to see the old and new chapters. You can then decide to activate or deactive the older version. Another option is to publish new chapters and re-order your old chapters. You can do this easily by dragging and dropping the chapters from the Publish/Content page.

You have to look at each chapter by going onto the Publish Settings page. Individual chapters might be active or inactive.

BTW - did you know you can resort the order of how your portfolio appears by dragging and dropping the rows of content in your portfolio? Give it a try.

No, it's not on my home page. It is on "MY Groups" page.

Okay, I know the problem. We are fixing it. If you want it resolved sooner, you can change your browser to Firefox or Chrome. But we'll have it fixed shortly either way.

Isthere a new URL that I can used for my forites?

You can use www.thenextbigwriter.com.

I think you can change this yourself if you go to edit your profile. It might take a few minutes for the change to propagate across the site.

The old site is up but very slow right now. We'll be fixing it next week.

Sol

I have the same question, if we're changed points to post or edit (if we increase content) but we gain no points reading, it won't take long to go bankrupt. Maybe I'm understanding wrong.
Thanks in advance for the answer

If the cost of content increases because content was added, so will the amount it pays. So, it all balances out in the end.

What happens if you shorten a chapter in the process of editing, and then add the text back?  Are you charged for the addback, or does it work on the basis of the max you've ever reached?

Post work and then delete, no change in cost points or review points. Then you add back, you will be charged for the add back.

Also, re: reviewing new members (fwc had a question for you about his new membership status, with one premium month awarded to him): I just reviewed fwc's work and received no credit for my time. As I recall, we received full credit for reviewing new members' work. I see no incentive to review them if we get no credit for it.

There was a bug with his membership and that's why he his work didn't pay credit. The bug is fixed and he can now add it back to the group and have it pay credits.

Next, scrolling doesn't always work properly in the windows (e,g., in my review pane, and in this forum post of mine) on the mobile Verizon. (I use iPad a lot.) It won't move down when I go back into the pane to make corrections and changes, unless I hit 'return' and get an extra line that I then have to delete...

We'll look into that. I'll check it again on my iPad.

Finally, a glitch just appeared on the mobile version - all my capital letters disappeared in my review of fwc's script. I had to go back to edit and add them back in.

That's a strange one. Let me know if it happens again or anyone else experiences it. Can you give me the link to the review?

How? I did it all a few weeks ago on the old site in preparation for coming here.

I think you probably tested short stories. This is a problem unique to novels I think. We should have it fixed by early next week.

Hi,

You can delete it by going to the group, going to Members, and then deleting yourself. You will see an option when you delete yourself to also delete the group.

BTW - how did you create your groups? I ask because right now there is a limit of 5 groups total (joined or created) per user. You seem to have six.

Thanks,
Sol

I am being charged points for Genesis, when I edited my latest chapter but didn't publish a version two. I also played around with editing and changing the book cover.
Are we being assessed points when we simply edit?
Are we being assessed points for customizing our book covers?
Please explain why and when points are deducted other than for publishing chapters.
Thanks.

If you add words to your content while editing, you will be charged extra points. Creating a message to let writers know they have points decucted is one thing on our list of to-do's. In the old system, many writers uploaded a small chapter which cost a set number of points, and then grafted another long section on without paying any additional points. This was, in a sense, a way of cheating the system. Not that everyone did it intentionally. We have closed that loophole.

If you remove content or shorten chapters, nothing is done.

Good to see things up and running after the long winter, lol. I seem to have trouble uploading a cover for my book. It finally uploaded on the beta site, but now it won't upload again since it was erased when the new site came on line. I'll keep trying. Also along that line, I never could get the title, fonts, colors, etc. to work with the cover. I won't create covers for all my works, but I hate to have to resort to the default cover or no cover for those I wish to emphasize. Take care. Vern

Are you having trouble uploading the image file? If so, send it to me and I will take a look. In terms of the titles, make sure the Title flag is set to yes. Otherwise, you can upload the image but no title will be created on it.

Sol, I entered the site as a member but not as a paying member. I may be confused about the one month upgrade trial period. I tried to post a screenplay submission to the TNBW premium group but it said I needed to upgrade first. But when I tried to upgrade it wouldn't let me because it said I was already upgraded as part of the trial period. I couldn't pay for an upgrade either, and I wasn't able to post in the TNBW premium group. I went ahead and posted my submission in the TNBW free group for now.

We're checking it out.

I'm on my smartphone.  I can't see how to read review replies, old or new.  And what about new -replies received-?  The old site made these 'inbox' items immediately visible.
Whatever you come up with, you have two different interfaces I have to figure out and remember.  Neither seems intuitive.  Perhaps they would seem intuitive if groups and connections were my concern.  They are not.  I want to review and be reviewed.

The new site makes reviews immediately visible as an alert on the homepage. The alert stays until the user has read and cleared all of the new reviews.

The site has only one version for web, mobile, tablet. The interface changes slightly to fit the form factor of each device but that is the nature of the mobile web. One version of the site for all devices is not possible and goes against every design concept.

Just to clear my foggy mind, if a group is non credit, does that mean reviews don't receive credit either?  Or does it just mean that it doesn't take credits to post to the group?  I'm so confused...

Good question. If a group is non-points it means that it doesn't take extra points to post to that group. But, if the same content is also posted in one point group, even if it is accessed in a non-credit group, it still pays points.

So, the best thing for groups that don't want to charge their users extra credits to post, is to make the group free. And if users want content to pay credits in even a free group, be sure to post it into one group that requires credits.

Does that make sense?

I received an invite to a group from Susan Stec, and the message has a link to view group, but clicking on the link gives and error message: The requested URL /group-YA/New+Adult+crossover+-16 was not found on this server.

Sounds like a bug. We'll check it out.

Finally, there's no quick and easy link to the forums like before, and I'm confused about whether there will be sub-threads. One huge forum might be a bit messy, unless I'm confused (as usual!)

There's a link under the name of each forum on your homepage.

There are no longer sub-forums. Each group has its own main forum. We noticed that most people tended to use one or two sub-forums on the old site so we consolidated and provides a running list of active threads.

Sol, I'd like to stay logged in. I bookmark the site, as I did with the old site, but i have to log in each time

This is a bug. We're working on it.

Not sure if this is a bug or not, but checking the public side of my profile I noticed that projects I've disabled are showing up on the list. I know they aren't available once clicked on, but shouldn't disabling hide them? I'd like to control what the general public can see in my portfolio.

This is a cache issue. The site can sometimes take 5-10 minutes to reflect changes made. This is something we'll be tightening up over the next week. But after a bit, content you disable should disappear.

Hi Sol! I received an in-line review - at least I think I did, lol! -  on my Chapter Thirty-five yesterday, but when I try to see it, all I get is the chapter itself, no comments, remarks, nothing. Probably just me, lol. What am I doing wrong?

You didn't receive an in-line review. It looks like you received a regular review. This means the review is at the bottom of the chapter, just like on the old site. It should also be readable from within your account.

It seems like it would make more sense to have "moderator" appear on someone's forum title only in the group where they actually are a moderator.

Yes, I agree. I think we'll probably remove the designations entirely as it's not so easy to make moderator only appear for the group in question.

If anyone wants to change their group form a credit group to a non-credit group, let me know and we will do it. Or vice-versa.

Speaking of writing feedback, I got a notice that three of my reviews have replies. How do I view those replies? Clicking on the notification link is useless, it just brings me to all the reviews I've done. I'd like to see the replies to my reviews right up front. Is there an easy way to do this, or does one have to go digging?

Your most recent reviews should be at the top. There should also be a filter for New reviews received although it looks like it was accidentally removed. Once you see your new reviews you can read and reply. I'll get it fixed.

Is all my stuff from the old site supposed to be here on the new site already? B/c nothing's here. And, it says I'm a new member as of November 2014. It could be because my penname on the old site was Jeanne M. Bannon and when I signed into the new one this morning I typed Jeanne Bannon as my penname, leaving out my initial. Any advice?

It looks like you created a new account instead of logging in with your old account. Do you remember your old email and password? Use that and you will access all of your old content. Once you do, you can close this account you just opened.
