Re: Site Bugs

I clicked everything you mentioned. The notice stays up there. It's been there for a couple of days now. That's why I'm requesting help. I've looked at pretty much all my reviews and replies and see nothing new. So either the replies aren't showing up where they're supposed to, or the notice is out of date.

Okay, I see what you are saying. It sound like a bug. We will take a look at it on Monday.

Re: Site Bugs

Another question: I posted the first chapter of a new novel the day before the new site came up.  My posting showed up in Premium members.  Is there any way it can be moved to "Cop Shop," without my having to pay points again?  I never got a chance to get feedback, and now it's languishing.  I'd really like to get input from knowledgeable folks, and there are a lot more chapters to go.  Thanks.  JP

Re: Site Bugs

Hi Sol, first of all, great work and thank you for the support.  You must be exhausted by now.  Hopefully things will settle down really quickly and we'll be back to business as usual before long.

I have a couple of suggestions (geez, don't think you have enough of these, but here's some more, sorry!)

* For new listings, when we click on the work, could we please be taken to the most recent chapter?  It's really annoying to have to use the drop down list each and every time.
* Can you please add our home tab to the top right drop down menu (the one right a the top with your name on that's always visible)?  That way it's easier for me to return to my home page to look for new message, reviews etc. when I've gone away to things like forums etc.
* When we do in-line reviews, can the cursor automatically go into the feedback box?  It's really annoying to have to click with my mouse inside the box before I can start to type, and if you add 30 suggestions/nits to an in-line review, that's a lot of unnecessary clicking.
*  And why when I've replied to a review am I taken back to the first chapter of the novel and not the review page?  This means another 5 clicks to get back to my review page to continue on with the rest of them.

Or let me know if I'm doing something wrong or am missing something?!  Always possible!

Thanks Sol!

I agree. This is something we will work on. Probably will be a few weeks out.

You know the logo at the top of the page is a link to the homepage? Do you will want it in the drop down?

Will look into that.

Yes, we are working on this. I agree.

Hmmm yes... I noticed that. I read a piece and when I reached the end, I was kicked out. Good thing I didn't happen to be typing a review or else I'd probably have had to retype it.

This happened to me today. I was in the process of writing a long review and when I went to submit, the system kicked me out and I had to log back in. I completely lost the review and had to re-do the whole thing. It seemed to be more of a timing issue and repeatedly kicked me out if I was in the system more than 20 minutes.

** Nope.  Thought it would take me to the site homepage, not my own.  I've learned something new, and since your way will save me a click (you'll pick up a trend here), no need to add it to the drop down, unless someone else insists.  I've also made a note to myself to be more adventurous!  wink

For me,  any time I try to type in a dialog box my browser crashes. I use a Toshiba with Windows 8. It's been cleaned up and upgraded. I'm not fond of Chrome or Firefox but I can switch if someone thinks it might work.

Re: Site Bugs

I have two more display problems.  The first is on one of my pages: http://www.thenextbigwriter.com/connect … /njc-10491

The cover image for KHippolite's Mrs. Blue story has the summary displayed beneath it.  It appears that the problem is an extra quote in the image display HTML in his summary.  I have screen caps of both if you would like them.

Not sure how to fix this one except by a full syntax check of the HTML for display.  There's probably a package somewhere to do it; I don't know the tech that well.

The second is on this very page.  I got an IE pop-up reading "Do you want to debug this webpage?  This webpage contains errors that may prevent it from displaying or working correctly."  There were a couple of checkboxes (Do not show this message again, Use built-in script debugger) and the actual message text:

Line: 27

Error: Unable to get property 'msie' of undefined or null reference

Let me know if you want the screencaps.

Edit:  The msie problem just occurred here --http://www.thenextbigwriter.com/group-thenextbigwriter-premium-1-- as well.

Hi Sol, just to let you know I have the same thing.  Will keep an eye out next week to see if it's still a problem.

Thanks!

I can delete that image now that we can post pictures in our work, but I'll leave it up for now for testing / debugging

Re: Site Bugs

bluetoothwirele left an in-line review to my poem Flight, but I can't see the review. The poem shows 0 in-line reviews but when I go to my "reviews" page I see I have 1in-line review.

I think this is a spam comment. I would just delete it.

Re: Site Bugs

It appears that the forums remember what I've seen on one device, but not on another.  When I log in on the flaptop, things I've already seen on the mobile show up as new (and presumably unread).

A thought on the logout dilemma: if, on relogin, you put up the overlay but kept the existing page and its content and returned to it after the login, you would at least protect the user from loss.  It would still be frustrating but not catastrophic.

Re: Site Bugs

Wow, is it just my phone, or is everyone's ip address showing up under their names?  I'm the farthest thing from tech savvy, but I've never seen that before!

I'm not seeing it.  Which page are you on?

Re: Site Bugs

Did we lose all of the old forums?

Re: Site Bugs

Okay, I was just on my home page.  Under the groups column, the Medieval Fantasy group's panel said there were new posts.  I navigated there; there were no new posts.  I reloaded both; the group forum page still said nothing new; the panel on the home page still had the new-posts link up.

Re: Site Bugs

MzP: I'm still tracing that problem in order to do a bug report for Sol, however I've isolated the most frequent occurrence... If I visit a group where I'm a moderator and click around in there, when I visit another group, I seem to retain moderator privilege until I next log out.

Re: Site Bugs

I'm on the Android now.  I read a review here,  http://www.thenextbigwriter.com/view-comment-262174 .   amy_s has a self-pic in the system, but this shows the generic silhouette instead.  (Of course, I think the image is 2.5x too large and should be left-justified with text flowing around it so as not to waste my screen space.)

Re: Site Bugs

SolN:

I think there's something wrong with the points. I've just reviewed RM's Reaction Time Chapter 32 which promised  2.1475 points, getting 1.72 instead. In the old site, I always received what was advertised. Now you need to credit me the missing 0.4275 points. I read that some other author complained about not reeving the advertised points too. Might it be a bug, or did the rules change?

Kiss,

Gacela

Re: Site Bugs

Interesting. 1.72 times the 25% bonus for being among the first 3 reviewers = 2.15. I bet the site is missing the bonus

Re: Site Bugs

Hi Sol

Not sure if this had been mentioned already, because I just can't keep up anymore.  I just hope you are!

*  Can we combine the regular/in-line reviews given and received on two tabs instead of the current four - I don't see why it needs to be different, I'm sure we'll be able to figure out which is which when we look at the review
*  Can we please see the complete comment on the first page listing all the reviews instead of having to click on "Read more" buttons to see the rest of the comments/text?  This would way we would need to do less navigation.

I have no idea how hard it will be to do, but think it would streamline things a little bit more!

Thanks for all your hard work, and putting up with our constant whining.  So far no sign of slowing, but it will get there eventually!
Janet

Re: Site Bugs

Has the logout problem been fixed?  I just picked up my Android and found I was still logged in.

Edit---  No, I guess not.  I was in the premiums groups, and posting, navigating and reading, but as soon as I went out and clicked the 'menu' button, I got the non-logged-in menu.

Re: Site Bugs

Hi Sol!

I don't seem to be able to send messages to my contacts.  When I click "send a message" I get a blue message window, but there is no place to write the message. If I click "send message" the window closes & nothing seems to happen.

I LOVE the in-line review feature, by the way. That is working for me without a hitch & makes the review process go much faster. Overall the new site has been a lot of fun.
