Just reviewed Chap One. Oh, I do like this one! Great characters, and I love how the story is set up. Such imagination. I shall go and cry into Izzy's coffee now and feel inferior again sad

Norm, have you looked at ProWritingAid for grammar correction? I have found it really useful for lots of its reports. It isn't at all dictatorial, you can simply use or reject what it suggests, but for style and grammar, I love it.  https://prowritingaid.com/en/Analysis/WebEditor/Go

The patriarchal religions have very similar structures, don't they. I'm not so sure of Dao and Buddhism though...

I'm looking forward to it. Nothing wrong with new learning, is there? I find myself entranced with books throwing new light on religions, no matter which religion. The ones I have problems with are ones that have characters with pious dialogue that is reflected in the text. It becomes unrelenting then. But if the story is non-Christian, even in a heavily Catholic environment, I think I would find interesting.

I have problems with the windows in Firefox for Regular reviews: I have to remember to put a title in FIRST because once I've tabbed down to the main window it expands upwards to cover the title window and I can't get back up there.

I think, as an agnostic, non-religious, reader, I would skip straight past anything that seemed too overtly Christian (let alone Catholic) in a preacherly way. I have no problems with God, Heaven and Hell; I don't mind Christianity per se, I just want it in the background, not thrust down my throat.  Having said that, I loved Richard Kadrey's Sandman Slim stories, which are about Heaven and Hell, the Devil and God, but treated in a supernatural way. How much of a central pivot will knowledge of Catholicism be to the reader?

Hi Christine, goodness all my old faces are migrating here!  Norm (Dirk) is an amazing repository for knowledge, as are njc and Kdot, and amy when she is here. Seabrass has a lovely snide sense of humour... and others I may have omitted or have yet to meet, forgive me for missing you from the plaudits...

Hi Rayner, you are on my reading list, but I've been struggling with getting through my reviews so do accept my apologies! I will shunt you up the list now you are here... (after Kdot and njc who will have my guts for garters if you jump the queue..) Good to see you here, they are an EXCELLENT bunch.

Hi, Lynne--

I don't believe you can change the designation of a piece without help from on high. (I've never tried it.) Looks like Sol is going to be busy for the time being, though. The easiest thing to do would be to submit the piece again as a first chapter, and everything will flow smoothly from there. It will cost points to resubmit.

If anyone else knows a better way, I hope they'll help you.

I was just thinking about doing the same thing with 'I Woke Up Crying.' I'll be interested to see how you do.  Good luck.  JP

Hi JP, I couldn't so, as you can see from my last post, I resubmitted it and accepted the use of more points. I can get very miserly with my points...

Thanks Bill, I think I will have to do that. Shame, I like to read the previous reviews on a work before I start, so that I don't double up on stuff that has already been attended to, and I am sure I am not alone.

and now the subscribe button on here has disappeared, so I won't know when anyone replies. Is this another glitch?

I want to change a previously published short story into the first chapter of a book, but the editing page only shows me the title and genre, and not the type, so I can't alter it, which means I can't add chapters.  Do I need to do something special? or will I have to dump the short and start again?

Boring you all, I am sorry sad   I've used up my points (thank you all...) and updated the files with the last chapters of Part One. This is now retitled as Part One, and is complete insorfar as it won't be edited any further for plot or chapter order. Any reviews or notes here will be gratefully taken on board in case it gets rewritten yet again. and now its needs nitty gritty attention, I suppose. Starting on Part 2 when I've done my duty and reviewed some more of yours to get the points back up.

p.s. one of the interesting things about this site is that I now go over my post before I send it, in order to correct the punctuation.  And still get it wrong, no doubt sad

Too bad I deleted my Facebook account. Too many cat videos and half-naked Russian women wanting to be friends. Too much like the Kardashians. Somehow, I don't think they're my target audience for Christian-friendly books.

But maybe there's a market for half-naked Russian women who can roll on smooth terrain. I'll have to investigate the tech aspect...

that sounds like a Japanese AI sexbot tbh

all the very best Mike, keep writing, even if not your major work, the smaller ones will still fill you with joy, and that's what it's all about x

well, genius is as genius does. I needed some credits tbh, but I don't like reviewing stuff I don't enjoy. It feels quite wrong. So I only review work I like, in case I can help a bit. Yours didn't even need that much help tbh, so I feel a tad guilty nicking your points.

definitely the first one would get my vote. Much tighter and more over-arching, more mystery. I like it a lot.

Assuming this is your thread, not just about Maiden. Just finished NIT. What a work of genius!

It's an interesting place The Edge. I like working in there a lot, but it isn't actually seen until Book 2.

This one writer has a place called the [E a r t h w o u n d] that's a fascinating collision of energies that kinda creeps up on the reader. Basically you have this bad place. And the story doesn't get into exact details about how it got there. But the characters respect it, which makes it terrifying.

I think all good fantasy has at least one place that is outside the others. One place that is either bad or vicious or lacking in something. On The Edge of something.

I've posted the rewrite just visible for here (and the Crucible another non-points group). Once we've pulled it apart, I'll put it together again and then post it over the points version. Currently, therefore, there are two versions in the wild... the one for you is https://www.thenextbigwriter.com/postin … rite-24460
