Hi Mike, I just searched for your novella. It didn't show up in the regular postings, but when I started a search it did show up. Most likely you restricted who can see it. Perhaps go back to your settings and change it. Don't know if you'd have to pay with points again.

Interesting indeed! Nice way to share facts and stations of Bill's life, Ann.

I agree with Lynne that burned might not express the exasperation. The word that comes to my mind is 'sighed', but it might not be what you mean. More generally speaking, I have no problem with giving eyes a broader meaning than the physical act of seeing. Eyes do express quite a bit. The TV series 'Lie to Me' comes to mind, and all the POV character can deduce from looking at eyes, face, and body language.

Hi, c.a.
Welcome! After two months, I'm still a newbie, but I've learned so much in this short tme.  It can be hard to get honest reviews, but it's well worth it. Having several writers pick at a chapter, your eyes get opened to all sorts of flaws. So hang in and just write.

OMG, Bill.  This doesn't sound like fun. Time to take care of yourself. So easy to neglect one's physical being when sitting in front of a laptop day after day. Luckily, my dogs keep me going. Wish you all the best,
Christine

Thank you all for directing me. I think I've figured out how to do it right now. I don't think the other versions have shown up for others. I just posted chapter 5, and think and hope that it's the right chapters in the right order. Soon, I'll fiddle around more to totally get the mechanics of the site. JP, you're right, the whole experience of publishing ones writing for the first time is rattling.
It's wonderful to have support here for writing, technical questions and whatever comes up.

Thank you,  Suin. That looks like an even easier option. How do I do that? Sorry, I need every tiny step pointed out to me.

Thank you, Tirzah, I always fear I might lose everything.

I have a question about my portfolio.

When I first posted I had no idea of what I was doing, and ended up with three books of "The Eyes of the River." Well, there's only one. The other two have to be removed. If I do remove them, do I also lose the reviews you have given? I don't want to lose those.

Any idea how I can fix that problem?

Thanks so much,

Christine

Hi all,

I just posted chapter 3 of The Eyes of the River. It shows up when I check from my profile, but not as new books posted. What did I do wrong?

I like your idea, j p. Most newcomers to the site could benefit from a help site that clarifies the expectations.

I rarely use FB anymore. Reconnected with some old friends. That's good, but for the most part,  it seems like a waste of time.

Speaking from the perspective of a newbie, it's hard to review someone else's work and even harder when reviewing a more experienced writer. I've been giving plenty of reviews, but feel shy about doing so. We're talking here about reading and reviewing genres we maybe not so familiar with. It can be hard to fully appreciate a good story when it's not what you're used to reading, and so on. I'd figured that the point system, at least in quantitative terms has reciprocity built in. Lots of things to figure out as a newcomer.

Hi Sol, I just signed up for this group. Did you mean in your comment that one posts directly here, but if I want to have that post more generally available post it in the usual, for me normal way? Would I start reposting the chapters I've already posted before?

Thanks all for the welcome messages!

Still a bit confused where all I can post, I didn't find these responses until just now In the meantime I added a bit to my profile and posted the first chapter of my novel. Thanks so much for your feedback. I gobbled up your advice and am working on a rewrite of the chapter.

Thanks Mark for sharing your experience! I was very nervous to post my first chapter fearing it would be torn apart and my fragile confidence as a writer shattered. Well, it did get critiqued. That was what I wanted, and my eyes got opened to see what I couldn't see. I should have done this much earlier in the process, but fear kept me away. I will sign up after my trial period runs out. Thank you all!

Hi, Im a Newbie trying to find my way around.

So far I've given one regular review, but haven't even put my profile up. Will be next.

I finished writing a novel with the title The Eyes of the River, a story that plays out in two historical worlds that are connected by a river. My excitement about having finished a first draft was short-lived. Now the real work begins, and that is why I have landed here.

I'm looking forward to find kindred souls. Happy New Year!
