Hi everyone

It's been quiet lately, so I thought this would be an interesting topic for discussion and who knows, maybe we all learn something new about the opposite sex?!

So the question is:

How do men love/fall in love differently to women? And the other way around.

As a start, in my mind, men are visual while women are more spiritual.

Looking forward to read different opinions and perspectives (from both sexes)!  smile

I'd say once you've straightened out the problem here and there, it'll be a pretty nifty gadget.

ps - I would get an honorary mention in the patent application, yes? cool

Janet!

Congrats on almost being off the island!  Now you'll only be 72 hrs drive away from me.  At least you're safe from many visitors (Aussie as well as us :-)

Consider us to be at good resource when something in America just ain't right.

Oh, highlight of my latest shopping expedition with Collin.  He walked backwards for more than half of my shopping trip.  At least half an hour.  He didn't hit anyone or anything, (except me) so I let enjoy being a backwards boy.  (exasperated sigh)

Sounds like a good idea for a road trip?!  I LUUUUVVVVVVVVV road trips!!!!  And THANKS for the offer - I'll probably take you up on it!  Then again, maybe you should help me deeper into the deep end - imagine the good material I'm going to gather for short stories ....  lol

I've been scheduled for a webinar on "American culture".  Apparently movies are not the best go-by's  yikes

I've reviewed Ch11 and check out over lunch, now just have to upload the word document into the review boxes for amy's perusal ....  smile

Had to google what you mean by "node" (yeap, I'm that clueless), but I'm with you again (sort of).  Saw ohm's law while googling/wiki'ing nodes - brought back vague memories.  Pleasant ones - way back in the day I think I got the right answer when I used ohm's law the first time ever.  It was 2 ohms.  In any case, if it's starting to look and feel like practiced circuit designer stuff, then it can't be all bad and it doesn't matter if one took the short cut or the scenic route, as long as you get there!

ps - So you still have work on the pigeon flasher/pilot too.  Sure you don't want to reconsider any of our (amy and me) other ideas?

I have a few more ideas if it turns out to be more than a few layout changes and extra resistors ....

Idea #3 (I think)
A phone surveillance system as in a system that feeds back a live stream of the phone to your laptop and hence enables easy identification whether said phone is on hook or off hook

Idea #4 (if the above idea is indeed idea #3)
Baby monitors all over the house to pick up off hook dial tones

As you can all see, I've kept the best ones for last. Not really, but at least it's high tech and a good personal motivation for njc to make his idea work. And soon?!

Hope you can make that trip soon, fix the circuit, finish a chapter and have a nice beer also soon! Keeping an eye on this space ...

I wasn't pleased with the three pours in one sentence, but I am pleased that it pleases njc and that he has done it deliberately! big_smile

K, how big is that catapult?!

Amy, good news! Our visas have been approved!!!! Close to booking flights and setting a final date - it depends on hubby's work when he resigns and how much notice he'll be expected to work ....

Idea #2

On one of our projects at work we needed loading arms to be replaced before tanker drivers were allowed to disconnect. The instrumentation guys used some or other connector switch with a spring loaded mechanism. The same concept could be applied to a handset I guess .... Should be heaps easier than playing with voltage ranges if you can find a connector that would do the trick?

I probably should've asked this question sooner because if you agree (which would be a first! LOL  just for the record, I still like you njc despite this trait of yours where you refuse to budge, without it you won't be you so don't change - as if you'd change just because of my opinion, but thought I'd just mention it to be safe - so please keep it in mind if you agree and agree slowly and carefully as not to cause me falling off my chair or anything), I've just allowed you to go through a lot of pain and effort for not much gain.  So here my suggestion goes.

You are trying to somehow connect this into the phone's "circuit" to detect when it goes off-hook if I understand correctly.  What type of phone does your mother have?  Wouldn't it be easier to install an independent (to the phone's workings) button that would also needs to be depressed by the handset otherwise the warning LED would activate.  Now, the issue with this is, how do you know your mother or someone else isn't using the handset?  I'd suggest having a timer based on how long she's usually on the phone before the LED's would flash to avoid this scenario where the LED would flash even though the phone is in use.  This is of course assuming this time would be acceptable before the LED needs to indicate the handset isn't placed correctly.  But it's not a biggy I think, as it would just help to make sure the handset is placed back correctly too.

Or is this really an over-simplified way of looking at the issue at hand?  Or what am I missing?  I'm really trying to help out here!  Unlike someone else who's name I won't mention who keeps on plastering silly Simpson's pictures all over the site that looks a lot like his book cover colour scheme *ducks*  please don't cry, K, we also like you just the way you are!  big_smile

Hi Sol

I can't see any reason this wouldn't work.  If they recip, they would experience what this site has to offer and would probably upgrade permanently to premium.  If they don't recip/engage, after 30 days they'd be gone, which is a loss for them but would be good for the site over the long term as this is what makes it special.  I think you just came up with a pretty good solution, so I really hope it works out.

Cheers Janet

Well, there goes that suggestion.  At least it looks like njc has this one covered!

It's a pretty extensive collection.

And varied!

Sigh.  Circuit changes aren't enough ... but I think I see ones that are.  I have to see whether they would make the voltage detector too sensitive to the battery voltage.  The L07011 and TN0620 mosfets can take the extra voltage.  Hmmm.

Am I reading this correctly - there are a few circuit changes that would help to fix your problem (or rather one of your problems), but you need do something more than simply circuit changes?  And then it depends whether the voltage detector can handle it?

Have you mentioned mosfets before?  I can't recall ...

pft, who are you calling average?! I read romance and watch dumb action movies because I think enough as it is.  big_smile

I hate not being able to figure out things, which is surprising given the rate things usually fly over my head! LOL

* hauls a spreadsheet over * <------ one for njc and one for amy! big_smile

Damn noices! Noise cancelling headphones are now even higher on my 'like' list of favourite things.

I know what Collin looked like with half a head shaven - it would look similar to two boys who were 3 and 5 at the time and gotten hold of scissors! Looking back it makes you smile. I love how you described the process too, I'm still smiling (as bad as I feel for you because I pick up on your frustration!) as I type this.

* scribbles like mad * I have to confess, been in the southern hemisphere most (all) of my life and the times I ventured north it had been spring, summer, autumn over there, never winter. I can count the number of times I've seen snow on one hand. We have to go through deliberate planning and effort to see snow! We have a mountain range, what we west aussies call a mountain, other people would call a hill (stretch), it's more like a bump in the road really. sigh

Google lancelin dunes images, it doesn't do those sand dunes any justice, but trust me, it's the most fun you can have with clothes on! And the sand is really pure white, it's absolutely beautiful (but not in summer - you won't believe how many flies there are around here, that's apart from the temps).

Now to the shaving problem. Would there be a cream that could do the trick? But I have no clue whether hair removal cream for sensitive areas would work though - stubble can be really tough. But it probably would initially at first? * holds thumbs amy can make a plan *

Oops, probably should've mentioned from the start he'd slow down to a walk despite wanting to get back to the tower. I (he) (we) have the time, so it works out.  Oh, and M is actually a nice guy too, he's just grumpy now because he doesn't know what's going on or who is trying to kill him LOL  And yep, C is in for a rough time, she's got nowhere to hide hehehe  I might actually let bimmy's dream come true and bring their history where C was locked up as a girl for info in sooner, I mean, the best way to defend is to attack, right? LOL

Thanks! I love you guys!  smile

I need some more opinions/suggestions, please.

Catherine won't fall asleep on the way back to Dacre Tower.  With the arrow removed, her arm bandaged and strapped close to her body not to move, would it still hurt too much to talk?  I'm wondering if Matthew wouldn't/shouldn't be pushing for answers or at least try while they're on horseback.  Or is the gentleman thing to do to let her be and give her a chance to recover before he starts the interrogation?

I really appreciate all your help!

You'll have to find another reason, it ain't your arithmetic ability.  It was to the north of the state - I think Perth "only" hit 47 deg C/117 F that day.  But I'm not complaining, it was our first hot spell this summer so far where we had more than 3 days hitting 45+.  Usually it hits us over the holiday season ...  I'd send some sun your way if I could, but until that day, some lucky person is having a perfect day somewhere in the middle!

At least I also have an excuse when I blush and I don't want to admit it!  wink

Is this a new design error or the one you've mentioned before?  Either way, hope you get it fixed without too much trouble!

Well, they (the governor/mayor of course) did a good job of freaking out, because it was all over our news wayyyyyy over here on this side of the pond ... Even our 50 deg C max temperatures which would normally be big weather news, was a no biggy when that happened!

Sledding ... will be a new experience doing it on snow instead of sand, but I guess it's just as fun (except colder)  big_smile

I've never heard of this movie dags!  Had to google it - are you referring to the 1942 Bette Davis version?  If so, where would one get it?!  LOL
