Truth. But she's gone from Short and fierce with briwn hair to blonde and something akin to blonde and stacked. Think Geanne Garofolo to Cameron Diaz.

Dead skin doesn't bleed. It has been cooked.  You debride down to living tissue and that is where it starts to bleed. Now, all you have to do is cook the rib cage and make a sucking chest wound. That is dramatic.

Spleens are invisible. You can't see the bleeding. They just pale up and die.

Will correct those specifics. Specifics are something I can wrap my head around.

Piffle.

OK, the next chapter of Dictates is up. Mother of God, this stinker took me two weeks to write instead of just an evening. Where does the time go? Oh, yeah. Into work because it's the summer and we're at half strength.

Either way, it's done!  Now to take a moment to breathe and then recip for all you wonderful peeps!

You didn't start writing your story 18 years ago and piddle around without a group for 16 of those years. So keeping up isn't really a worry. You got your story into the gate and joined an online group right away. Someone had to hit me over the head before I took their advice and joined TNBW.

Janet...the glue that pulls us together:-)

Oh, and Detroit is only an hour away, so that works too. If you go to Oregon, stay at Maumee Bay State Park. It is only a few miles away fro where I think the refinery is. Good food, pretty view, and my kids like the pool.

I'm only working on 5 at the same time. I bow to the master.

New Jersey, you had better come. Just a hop and skip once you get through the Penn turnpike!

Oregon, OH (unless there are 2 facilities) is less than 15 miles away from me. Is it the refinery, I assume? Give me as much notice as possible so I can get the time off! There is NOTHING to do do in Toledo but eat. And don't bring a warm coat...I'll send you back with a new one!

Done. Check your inbox.

It isn't criticism. It's a sign that I like you and want your book to kick ass and take names. I was trained to critique by JLiz. She had a harsh eye but made me better. I owe her. So I pay it forward. (Hopefully:-)

Are you referencing the movement in terms of the largest visible object? When flying around their own ship, that becomes up and down. If there is a planet, then that beats the ship as largest object.

At work, yesterday's Soup Du Jour was kids too young to be on minibikes. Look up what I'm talking about. The very concept is horrifying. And they are available for purchase at Walmart. That should tell you how safe they are.

And my next chapter is up for Dictates. I'm moving to the climax and hopefully to the end of Jaylene's story. Goals: Destroy the Horror. Show everyone Base Camp. Trash Base Camp. Battle Royale. Happy For Now.

Moving on...

You need to post something, New Jersey. I'm finding the energy to start reviewing again, now that July is over and 2/3 of my shifts have help.

I've got the conference in Chicago coming up next month. I'm looking forward to thinking just about writing, and four days without kids. I'm making a new goal that I move toward finishing Dictates by then. And then I could write the ending for Mandates and be done with THREE first drafts.

Now that is progress. Unlikely, but it is always good to have a goal.  I need to rewrite Mandates anyway. It is the weakest of the three books IMO.

Insertion is usually in the upper tibia, but EMS likes to put them in the head of the humerus (upper shoulder).  Yeah, they hurt, because you are essentially breaking a bone to put it in, but usually the person is an arrest, so they don't complain much.

IO's are easy to place, eliminating the time wasted by trying to get an IV in a person who has no blood pressure (no flow equals flat veins and multiple attempts)

IO's have a wide bore needle.  The thicker the needle, the faster the flow. IV's have different gauges (widths).  Imagine the flow of a garden hose vs a small IV. Which one passes more water?  It's an extreme example, but applicable. The width of the catheter is what matters. Not the length of the catheter. That is immaterial.

IO's go into the bone, which is EXTERMELY vascular. There is only one drug that we can't put into an IO needle, because it's half-life is like 5 seconds. Every other drug for a cardiac arrest can go into the quickly-placed, wide-bore IO needle.

Ironically, we don't use them much where I work, but that is because of user familiarity and tradition. We are also freaking amazing at placing IV's. However, EMS and the Army uses them all the time.

Blood flow to make meds moved is provided by CPR. It only matches about 30% of normal cardiac output, but good CPR makes a pulse that can be felt in the groin or elbow.

I think that heat saps our energy. And this has been a hot summer.

Nasal steroids are topical and designed to just affect regional tissues. (Same thing with inhaled steroids) I"m talking about the oral steroids and Prednisone.  That is the big whammy.

Ex: I have a friend who doesn't think her asthma is 'that bad'.  She takes about 3 steroid bursts per year to knock down her attacks. She has probably taken about 6 regimens like this in her life.

I also have asthma. I treat myself with a decongestant, an expectorant (guiaffenison), and an inhaled steroid that I start when a cold starts and continue for 2-3 weeks after the symptoms have resolved.

IMO, she is much more likely to need a ventilator if she gets a bad attack and require long-term steroids because her asthma has become COPD. Steroids are a big gun that you point at a big problem. They mask a lot of infections. They keep people from mounting an infectious response. If you take them daily, it is a big/bad thing to stop them abruptly, so if the person needs surgery or stops eating, it can be a lot of trouble. Chronic steroid uses have very delicate skin, and don't heal worth crap after surgery (we leave staples in the patients for double the normal time and sometimes that isn't enough)

Trivia. Sorry if I bored you.

I have stories like that but they involve barf. I'll spare you the details.

Exertion with sweats/ fatigue can be a lot of things, but I don't consider that a fever. Dehydration from the heat wave, pneumonia hidden by the steroid bursts you've been taking, osteomyelitis from the constant sinus infections...I could go on. Either way, I agree that it is off to the doctor you go.

Good luck and get yurself better!  You landlord needs to have a heart attack when a neighbor smells soddering  and sees a bit of smoke coming underneath your door :-)  Everybody has to have a goal and purpose in life...

At the camping, it was utter misery and blazingly hot. One of the best moments was when one of my campmates froze wet washcloths and we put them over our heads. It was utter bliss.
