Yeah we hunt for goodies on sale. You don't have a clue how much the thrill is in the hunt.

As for the paltry number of male groupies, I found this interesting tidbit from a 2011 salon.com article that makes perfect sense to me (along with your more warped, but equally valid theory): 'Male fans...are less likely to get past security, for very compelling reasons of safety. A girl is simply less of a perceived threat. The opportunity for a casual hookup to go badly, the potential consequences for a woman, are different and much more serious than they are for a man.'
http://www.salon.com/2011/02/22/neko_ca … _groupies/

Security, plus male insecurity about approaching powerful women on stage, equals far fewer male (vs. female) groupies. Women rock stars get stuck with roadies and vibrators, that ultimately may have a lot more staying power.

Lmao - taking my kid out for post holiday shopping so I'll catch up with you later. Poor Wanda, she'll have to put up with you for a few hours! Tell her I said 'Patience young grasshopper...'

Of course you're not absolved, don't be ridiculous. Most successful male musicians are totally hot. Why? For the same damn reason.

It's the exceptional ones who don't need to look great, but despite their mediocre looks, are so awesome that everyone wants to have sex with then anyway. Look at Mick Jagger, prime example.

Same in politics - power is a turn-on.

It's the famous and the powerful who force themselves sexually on regular people, or self-destruct through risky sex, that I find simultaneously repugnant and fascinating

The British soul singers who followed owe(d) him a huge debt.

I haven't ignored you, you've been an absentee troubadour. Did you watch my Russian dude absolutely killing that guitar? Omg.

I'll try to see Letterman tonight, or catch the YouTube vids.

Are we not looking at each other's books anymore, cuz I have two chapters of Genesis awaiting some batshit crazy funny reaction. Not from you, of course, cuz you're strictly business... wink

That movie is so YOU, John. (And where the hell have you been anyway?)

I hate to say it, but if Amazon charges me to watch a movie, on TOP of my Prime membership, I swear at the Roku and don't go for it. A while back, I preloaded a watch list and didn't notice some have charges, so it's really annoying to think you have a free movie and you don't. And they have the temerity to charge for old movies, I mean wtf? You'd think this was corporate America or something!

Ah, had my rant, so lessee, what were we talking about? Oh yeah, cool movies...

Another subtitled peach, this one in French: 'Tell No One.' It was out maybe a year or two ago and - if AMAZON doesn't charge any money (or if it's in Netflix), you should see it.

Welcome back to the REAL world, John.

This Randy Newman song is more appropriate under the Genesis thread, I guess:

Hey, Vern,

Thanks so much for your re-read and for your additional comments. As you can see, I incorporated a lot of what you'd said in your inline. I like your additional suggestions here. Lemme see what I can do...

Working on ch 12 these days - lots of law stuff. It's hard to stay away from shorthand. Linda Lee already caught me referring to the CPLR (in ch 11), which is the NY litigatior's bible: "Civil Practice Law and Rules." It didn't even occur to me to explain what it was when I wrote it - jargon I still take for granted, stoopid me! I oughtta know better by now - I'm writing a darn novel, not a boringggg memorandum of law, for crying out loud! roll

Think I linked this before, but I'm in a Randy Newman kind of mood. Without Hamler around lately, we can indulge in actual songs! lol

Just kidding, John, where you at these days? Buying me a great Christmas gift, I hope?

Those two Tico Tico players deserved every ounce of applause plus another gajillioon decibels' worth! smile

The children are amazing - I don't understand the negative tag line.

The Russian dude is pretty intense. I think the whole look works: The hair, the jewelry, the incense... Were you REALLY that cool? I never was....! cool

Wow Max, I absolutely had to click one of Ans's concert vids to see her play - surreal! Thanks for the links, I'm enjoying the sounds! And yes I do understand...

You've probably heard of this guy,  too, but regardless-- here's a gift to you from across the globe:

I'll check it out, Max, thanks! Speaking of mushrooms, I went to a Hot Tuna show last night. You're a guitarist; I'm sure you're familiar with them...Anyway, it was Jack's 70th birthday but you'd never know it from his playing and his moves. The entire show was very electric and very psychedelic - mushrooms definitely would have enhanced an already excellent experience, ha! wink

Little blue collar hole in the wall town, outside Hartford CT. He tells me the area was about equally split between Yankees and Red Sox, Giants and Patriots, fans.

'Course, this year's been a disaster for both NY teams, and I have no intention of wasting a dime on next season's Yankees amateurs. He'll be glued to watching them flail around on TV anyway (sigh), but I'm sure as hell not buying any tickets to the games.

What happened to the Podger restructuring? Lose that organizational fervor? or have you turned into a renegade Hodger?

Me, I think we're settling in okay for now. Got this music thread going, and the book threads more or less, so what else do we really need? Tried starting the movie thread - a dud - and your initial wtf threads don't bother me none. (Kinda like the one with the images, though...especially since I'll never figure out that image code again without referring to my post about it.)

Thanks for the review, Linda. I totally see what you mean. Still, I'm not sure about a transitional scene or chapter. Then again, I'm not sure about anything... hmm

I really like the inline feature on the new site, even though I'm not crazy about this group stuff. Like you and Vern say, it kinda stunts the freewheeling exchanges of the old Hamler-GP thread... Whaddaya gonna do, right?!

Hub took some pics on his phone, since we were right in front of the stage. But yeah, it's crazy when people record the show by focussing on their cameras instead of swallowing the moment, unfiltered. Why bother paying all that money to look through a screen?

I like the ugly guy on the far right, wearing a white crew neck- he's clapping to the music but he's way off beat! lol

Don't know the Sir Elton song. Did I tell you we're seeing him on New Year's Eve at Barclays? Like I said, Billy's the better keyboardist but Sir E is still writing good songs. (Hub doesn't care, he loves Billy no matter what. He leaves the arguing to me and just listens while I rant!)

Mellencamp and Joel on 11-25-15
http://youtu.be/p2ONUbF5C3k

At 0:40 I'm directly above the time dot (I.e., hidden by the speaker and  floor light). At 0:47, Hub is the dark-haired smiling hunk in the white shirt, and dark jacket, directly behind that same speaker and to the right of the TelePrompTer  (a blonde lady with glasses is directly to the right (his left) directly in front of Mellencamp. Spotlight is on his face at 1:39.:)

Here's Sting on Mulberry Street:
http://youtu.be/vsy7iiet6Yw

Hub is in front of Sting (I'm hidden) at 0:49, halfway between the beginning of the red time line and the white dot, to the right of the TelePrompTer: same front row spot at 2:10

Just so ya know I wasn't making all this up (granted I'M not in the shots hmm )

Oh, for the Billy Joel show, MSG security let everyone on the floor rush the stage after 'Allentown.' Wheelchairs first. So I'm front and center, except since I'm IN the damn wheelchair,  my view is half-obstructed by the underbelly of the stage, and by the floor lights. Also, I'm totally hidden by the stage in all vids and photos. So I'm still a mystery woman, but honest, I WAS there!

Proof? Hub, standing directly behind me, is in FULL view of nearly every vid on YouTube. He's kinda embarrassed to be so ubiquitous, but I think he looks adorable. lol

I never played music in front of a famous person, but I had people walk in on me or sit in the next room while I blithely went flat, went sharp, went haywire, and went into a tailspin.

Now I look back on those days and say, well, shit at least I was playing then. Now I sit on my ass and fake-write. roll

So, in between football games and military documentaries (:roll eyes:), Hub and I actually watched a movie that didn't have 'fuck' or 'fucking' in every moment of dialogue and gratuitous violence in every frame. yikes

Since I know zilch about Danish history, and I'm not a huge fan of subtitles (means I can't play a game on my iPad while the movie's running), I wasn't too keen on watching a Danish subtitled flick called 'A Royal Affair.' Dumb title, too. And, you know, the title says it all, right?

Sort of but completely. Intelligent acting, philosophical enough for even Hamler's tastes, but sorry, buddy, no real nudie scenes.

I must say, it's the first movie I've seen on Netflix for a while where I didn't leave Hub alone to watch it, or get involved in another iOS game.
