No I actually love Croce. Great songwriter and a simple, from the heart delivery. Another singer-songwriter who reminds me of him is John Hiatt:

Donovan? They call me mellow yellow, that's right, slick! I like him too - he reminds me of my pre-pubescent years, when I dreamed of being cool. Like the other side of the pillow...

Excellent, thank you Anita!

Damn, Max. Don't let that bastard win. Neuro illness IS insidious -- I often describe it that way exactly. But it can't win, cuz you're still you. Right? Right.

Sending positive vibes your way, my friend.

(Denisef, I'm in the Hudson Valley - battening down the hatches for tomorrow's blizzard. Make sure everything is fully charged! We oughtta move to Hawaii and hang out with Max!)

No routine - I'm in a funk right now...  yikes sad

Also, Anita, when do you want chapters posted, is every class member supposed to review every other member, should we post one ch per week, and should the reviews only focus on the lesson of the week?

This is probably covered elsewhere but I cant find it, I'm sorry! sad

P.S. Oops, I see Sol addresses some of these questions in his class description on this forum. No writing is to be posted until next week, only critique two or three, base our critiques on specific lessons...Right? Do we post critiques on this forum, in that case, and not as regular or inline reviews to that work?

Hi all,

It's hard for me to discuss stuff using the reviews. Somehow the back and forth on the inlines is tough for me to work with after the first set of comments - my bad...

Anyway, Cobber is way nicer than me. I'd dump the whole mess of that sample slush and start fresh, rather than try to fix it.

I've posted, as a regular review, a short list of a few of my innumerable flaws, which is the other part of our homework this week. I'd appreciate it if those who read my work would jump up and smack me if they spot any of them, or spot other issues. If it's easier, I can block and paste my comments here, too...

Thanks!

Here it is - add typos to the list. hmm My heading, omg! I depend far too much on autocorrect!

I've been critiqued here on TNBW for not including enough internals, not describing characters' physical appearance enough, and for rushing certain scenes. One member/friend has a mild-mannered comma war going on with me, lol! Also, a few haven't suspended their own beliefs to go with a particular character's actions ('that would never happen when, in fact, it actually has), which I translate to be my failure to immerse them suffuciently in my world.

Yes it would be. Just don't nit me bro. Saw that on your new improved ch 2. Considering my successful result in the pub world, you should definitely listen to ME and my pretentious reviews!!! Right?

lol I needed that. A good belly laugh, I mean. Getting tired of all the serious pretentiousness, if you know what I mean. And explaining the same shit over and over and over again. And being polite, when I feel like being point blank rude. Like saying 'fuk off' instead of 'thank you.' Ugh. I'm in a bad mood, sorry.

See how much I appreciate you and your alien overlords?

Where you been, John Boy? Drumming, I hope.

Me, I signed up for TNBW writing class in the hope of getting more guidance on where to put the prep school flashbacks. I'm in such in tizzy about it, Ive hit a wall. I'll probably end up sprinkling them around instead of that long set of nine chapters in a row. The very idea of it puts me in a funk. hmm

Anyway, tonight we're getting our first big snowstorm of the season, so the weather people say (gleefully, of course). We'll see, come morning....

Saw Fried Green Tomatoes on Netflix tonight. I loved it, almost cried when Ruth died. Big lump in my throat! sad While Hub played solitaire on his iPad. What a nice turnaround from the usual scene at my house, ha! Wanda shoulda been here for the change of pace! The remote was even on the table! lol

You must be laughing about deflate-gate, huh? Hub hates the Patriots, as you know, so he's like, yeah they're a bunch of cheaters. Go Seahawks, right?!

Collaborating with you re this afternoon's game.

I was worried you'd be stinking drunk for the wrong reasons. Hub and I were both rooting for Seattle, Hub mostly cuz he likes Russell Wilson and he wants the Patriots to lose. And me, well I have connections to Washington State. wink

So congratulations, they deserved to win, despite the shitty first half. Great exciting finish!

Hey everyone,

I'm Terri Weiss aka GPynenees.
(1) In which genre(s) do you write?  Commercial fiction.
(2) How long have you been writing? Fiction, since 2009.
(3) Is your primary goal to find a traditional publisher or to self-publish, or both (and have you published before)?  Traditional. I've had one short story published in a lit mag (hard copy,  not ezine)
(4) Have you submitted your current work to agents or publishers, and if so, any feedback you’d like to share? Yes, I have an agent. She submitted my first novel to 16 publishers last spring, and all 16 rejected it within five weeks. She didn't go to a second list, and told me to write another book. So that's what I'm doing...sigh...
(5) Who are a couple of your favorite authors? Scott Turow, Laura Hillenbrand, Janet Evanovich
(6) What's a fun, quirky, or interesting fact about you? Me, I'm dull as doornails. I've trained my own service dog, though, who can now get the phone from the receiver and bring it to me. I don't know if that counts as quirky, fun or even interesting, but she's really cute, keeps me happy, and keeps me company when I write.

Dragon actually a pre-install. I've never tried it. Do you use it, Vern?

I'm in a writing rut. I know where the story is going - sort of - in my head, and I'm feeling too lazy and too cold to write it down. yikes

I don't have an angry face!!! tongue

But I'm smiling, because I can't imagine WHY people love this guy so much! I never understood it, to be honest.

Now Cat Stevens, I can understand. Back In The Day, he was considered a hottie, and his songs were all about peace and free love and being positive wink

Now he's much older, renamed himself Yusef Islam, and written nothing that great for forty years (as far as I know) so I'm not sure the appeal is still there.

Hub LOVES to watch lousy movies on Netflix. It's like, he starts a movie and when it looks really awful, he just keeps watching it. And of course he's got the remote. He keeps saying it'll get better, something's gonna happen, give it a chance...

Eventually I start playing a game on my iPad while he's watching, just to keep him company. Then, since I'm not watching or even paying attention, I start hearing snippets of terrible dialogue. Like, two nights ago, he was watching an absolutely awful movie with George Clooney and Nicole Kidman. Every once in a while, I'd hear Kidman shriek or groan while Clooney was driving in a car chase scene. It sounded just plain stoopid.

Last night, he watched a movie called 12 or something like that, about foster kids. Sooo bad I actually just left him watching - I couldn't even listen to the dull as doornails dialogue...A real snorefest.

It's been a while since I've seen anything decent on Netflix. Like since I started this thread after seeing Royal Affair, that's how long it's been (excluding movies we watch again cuz we like 'em so much, but that doesn't count since it's not like seeing a movie for the first time and saying wow this is really good).

(Never saw or read Winters Tale. I've heard of it though, does that count?!)

Just bitchin'.

I ALWAYS root for the Seahawks now. Mostly because I'm in love with Richard Sherman, of course, after those NOLA Bourbon Street vids, but also because they're YOUR team! Besides, Hub hates the Patriots, so you see? It all comes together. wink

If your bass player looks like Bradley Cooper, well, hell, I'm hopping the next plane outta here to Seattle. Oh wait, he's probably too young for me. hmm

Didn't read American Sniper, didn't read Gone Girl. I'm pretty illiterate, come to think of it. The fuk AM I reading, anyway? Flat Water Tuesday (lit fic prep school book), the Turnipseed book (Baghdad Express) that I want you to read, downloaded Grisham's latest but haven't read it yet, about to start Leap Into Darkness (member of the tribe who jumped off a Nazi concentration-bound train and became a resistance fighter)...

Did you see Selma? I haven't seen it yet. I wanna know if it's too worshipful, which is why I've been avoiding it. Since it's a God-given film, i.e., straight from Oprah to us, I probably will see it, though. After The Color Purple, Harpo Productions is all right in my book.

Now, are you gonna dispute that, and make me say 'Hell No'? wink

1. I emailed my agent to give her a status report, and she replied, so I guess she's still aboard -- for now.
2. Next stem cell infusion is Feb 24, and the doc hopes to see improvement after that, maybe by Memorial Day (?)
3. Not playing any music, so I'm jealousssss
4. Cold and snowy here - I wanna move to Bora Bora, but Hub says no
5. Wanda needs to dump those smelly socks in your bass drum, if you get my drift. tongue
6. Of course we'll be seeing the Bradley Cooper war flick that opens next week - it should satisfy Hub's thirst for war flicks and mine for handsome movie stars, for two hours or so anyway...

The Imitation Game. See it.

Speaking of which, it's a bit quiet on the Western front. What's going on?

Oh my god, jerry is such a douchebag. Thanks a lot! roll

Don't I encourage you enough?! Look at my review of Light and our threads for chrissake, sheesh. Although now, as Jerry, maybe I'll change my tune.

Look for me on tv tonight at Sir Elton's show. I'm sure they'll broadcase a few moments. I'll be to the left of the stage but on the first balcony. Floor seating is too crazy on New Years.

Raising a toast to both of us to finish our books this year! To Hamler and Genesis, may they prevail despite their creators' many shortcomings!

Never even heard of her. She sounds like a country singer!

I dunno, if Eddie Vedder says I want YOU, would you say no? He's pretty good looking. And Wanda and me, we both have a thing for Chris, too. Just sayin.

I suspect Beyonce's backup male dancers are gay. But if she wants casual sex, I can pretty much guarantee you she's not interested in surrendering, or in future hook ups with whomever. Casual is casual for the screwer (not necessarily for the screwee), be it male or female.

Hot women marry up, you say? Hmm. Who did Tina Turner marry post-Ike? Forget Angelina, who is Scarlett Johansson's squeeze? Yeah. Thought so.
