That's great, Denise! The hook in both your Paradise stories -- for me at least -- is "dangerous love." Your characters are drawn together by passion/lust/desire that flies in the face of reason. Their struggle is to build real relationships and love from a starting point of pure animal attraction. I'd advise you find a snappier way to say this to your editor, though. I don't want to ruin a good opportunity for you with clunky words!  Best of luck, Gray

Very good ideas Gray, but the craziest thing is your use of Dangerous Love. I was going to name Forbidden Paradise that before I came up with the Paradise theme, and I actually have a saved version on my computer called Dangerous Love.....Wow, in my head much.....lol Thanks....Denise

Just got a call from an editor who is interested in my work but she wants to know what the hook is for my stories. A bit perplexed by this. Thoughts anyone. She's calling me back tomorrow morning so any input is welcomed and appreciated.    Denise

Nice job Gray. Great pics. I see you used  Weebly. How was it. I used Wix. Found it a bit easier.

Thanks so much for all your kind words of encouragement.

Just wanted to share that both Beyond Paradise and Forbidden Paradise have finalized in WRWA Fab Five Contest....Fingers crossed that the final judges who are agents and editors will request more.....http://wisrwa.org/contests/contest-fab-five/

PS My work is listed under my real name......Barbara Forlenza

"This isn't helping," she said with a frown.

I've read plenty of successful books in first person. I'd think long and hard before doing a rewrite, especially based on one rejection and one article. How do you know POV is the problem? I'd ask some reviewers first before jumping to any decision.

Totally agree...I'd say if anything the showing and telling thing is prob more of a problem. I know that is a huge problem for me and something I'm always looking for in my revisions....

Yes, it's the same one.  They are only about 30 miles from me, so I'm looking forward to working with them, but am sad they rejected Bill's story.  Getting rejected always sucks!  You work so hard, do everything they require in their query letters, and then they hand you a big NO for no good reason.  That's when you eat yourself into oblivion, then start over!

I usually self-publish, but thought I'd see what this company can offer me (if it's anything more than I can do myself).

So true. Only I lose my appetite.  Lol

Congrats....Nice to know that really does happen....All the best and yes I agree with the comparison to having a child. Honestly I think I know more about my book than my children......lol

I'm constantly amazed why writers want to go with a publishing company and make 8-40% on their books when they can self-publish and make 70% and maintain control. Each to his own, I suppose. :+)
If you're determined to go with a publisher, you might check out Copper Pen Press. They don't accept every genre but I know the man who owns the company and he's a good person.

Good advice Ann....I have my work out at many agents and editors that have actually requested my work and am still in limbo....Giving it till the summer and then going rogue...

Amazing reviews. Well done

Best of luck Tom...

I voted Janet....Nice cover...

Interesting article Ann, thanks for posting.

Congrats.....Huge accomplishment.....

Voted Janet.  Good luck.

It is my knowledge that a query letter is a little more than a blurb to get the agent interested along with the name, genre, word count and any awards you've received pertaining to what you are pitching. A synopsis is longer maybe 3-5 pages and this is more like an outline, with the struggles of the main characters and including the ending. Any agents I have ever dealt with do not like cutsy or familiar. They want a well written business approach. Hope this helps as it can be very confusing...

Thanks MP....You prob have read my story. It was a finalist in this years Strongest Start Contest. Beyond Paradise, Romantic Suspense.

Have some other offers and will keep plugging, just thought that was an odd response, but who ever said agents were normal....lol

Just went to the NJRW Conference last weekend and found it very informative and helpful. Feel your pain about querying, but I suggest you go for it and have confidence in your work.
Recently had someone rave about my story, request a full and then get back to me and said altho "interesting" not what she was looking for. Can anyone tell me what that means? I certainly understand rejection and the odds of the rush pile, but this agent read my query, 30 pages, requested a full, and then rejected. I feel like the rejected lover......lol Any and all opinions welcomed...

How about a contest showing when the two main characters first meet. Their chemistry and attraction or if not a romance how these two characters drive the plot.  Also like A T Schlesingers idea....

Congrats to all....Sorry for my delayed response. To be honest with all the setbacks I forgot about checking, but was honored to be a runner up and to have my name listed with these other great authors....Special congrats to Gray. Have been reading his work since I've been on this site and he has the gift. Happy and successful writing to all in our future endeavors......Denise

Also a special thanks to Sol for persevering and getting the results out.
