Oh, no! Please... Don't close the "thread." Whatever the fuck it's supposed to be about, I forgot already. For I used to be THAT GUY, you see. (Like Charles Bell is nowl) but I've been demoted to THAT GUY who TRIES TOO HARD to be PROVOCATIVE. It sucks getting old and playing second fiddle to the new guy stirring the pot. Fuck.

Seriously, though... I dunno if Charles is just fucking with y'all or sincerely trying to stir the boiling pot from the noble position of Devil's Advocate, but... Argue with him. For chrissakes, he's falling on his sword and doing y'all a service. There to provide y'all a sounding board upon which you can improve your writing. Seriously... Utilize your ANTAGONY towards him (subtle plug) to debate your points and sharpen your rhetoric. Or, if you haven't got time for all that... Just go ahead and grab memes off the internet in order to antagonize him. That's fun, too. smile

Good one.

Thanks for sharing that site, Suin....Just submitted. Can't wait to hear their reply.

Congrats...That's a big step..

Congrats on this huge accomplishment...

Haven't been on lately but wanted to share some good news. I recently signed with Soul Mate Publishing for a three-book deal of my Paradise Series. I am in edits now with the first book Beyond Paradise which some of you may remember. I also wanted to thank the many people here who helped me along the way and also the competition of the great contests offered on this site. Will keep you posted but hope to have the first book out by the middle of this summer.

Thanks.....Denise

nice job

Congrats Bill....You are a talented writer and now all will know just how talented you are.

Congrats Bill...That is huge....Can't wait to see it in print.

Some very interesting comments on this post. And I think we've all fallen into the trap of misused dialogue tags, and trying to please an agent or editor. But if the writing and voice are fresh they will overlook these things. I have read popular books published by the big houses and caught numerous mistakes and I have read brilliant self-published work. In the end, it comes down to the quality of the work and putting our best out there and sometimes that means breaking some rules.

Great blub....Very intriguing....Congrats to you...Denise

Thanks for the compliment, Dags. I appreciate it.  One book I think every writer should have is  The Emotion Thesaurus: A Writer's Guide to Character Expression. Best selling authors, Angela Ackerman and Becca Puglisi cover everything between Adoration to Worry. They list physical expressions, internal sensations, mental responses, cues of long term and suppressed expressions of each emotion. I use the reference all the time. It isn't just for facial expression but includes the whole body's reaction.

Yes Ann that book is great

Very interesting to see when everyone joined. I joined in March of 2010. Have made some great friends and have received wonderful insight and reviews from so many of the talented writers on this site. As a result my writing has improved and I am quite close to my dream of publication.

This is a wonderful discussion, and a reminder of the golden old days of engaging and thoughtful forum threads. I've been a spotty site participant over the past year, but sense the site has become more lively lately, thanks to some new players but also renewed interest among veterans too.

Yes Grey totally agree because of life issues we are drawn away from this site but we should always remember our roots and how we came up. Our reviews should be honest but always kind. But for those who have received harsh reviews learn from them and dob't let them get you down..
