Jeez Louise, GP! I just met Rhiannon. Let her get to know me a little first. I'm sure before long she'll run screaming outta the room of her own accord!

Thanks Rhiannon! Plotting stinks but it's gotta be done at some point. In the meantime, just writing sounds just right. Sorry. That was lame...

Lazy shitbirds are my kind of people, GP!
(...a computer cable that gets run over by a vacuum cleaner so often that it frays and breaks.) I've seen that happen.
Yes, MS is a MF'er. I suspect you don't need me to commiserate, you just wanna keep me updated. And I appreciate it, GP. For there's nothing more worrisome than silence.
As the guy on NPR says: Get well, do good work, and keep in touch.

Only eight million cells? Come on, GP! Quit slacking already.
Seriously, though. We all get stuck in life traffic from time to time and there's no excuse needed. Especially in your case. Your health is more important (to ME) than being a good citizen of TNBW, for chrissakes. This scene pretty much sums it up:

Long as I've been here I oughta know how to do this, but... Can anyone tell me how to spend points and RE-PUBLISH a previously INACTIVE chapter so that it pops up on the front page where everybody can see it? You know, as opposed to simply making the chapter ACTIVE again.
Thanks
John

I have a thread called COLLABORATION? I must be getting senile...
Jeez, GP. You won't lemme live that down, will ya? I was only in the city for a day, you know. Hell, I was back there this last summer, too, but spent most of my time on the Jersey Shore.
Boy, these agents are really fucking with you. As Billy Joel always says: "Don't take no shit offa nobody!" That includes me, I guess.
Okay, I'll post some ANTAGONY. When you read it, keep in mind that it's supposed to be ridiculous!

Yeah, don't use the Fifty Shades line. It's too easy. But you should let me write all of Travis' dialogue throughout the whole book. Why? Because while it might be totally useless/fruitless, it might also be fun. We could do it right here in the forum. You set up the scene, handle the narrative, and be Genesis. I'll be Travis and we'll simply correspond. Whaddaya think? Stupid? Yeah, probably. In fact, I've probably suggested this before. I can't remember.
As far as flashbacking goes... Have you thought about writing this novel in linear? Like a memoir? Simply start by telling the Sturton story in its entirety as the first half of the book and then do a "ten years later" jump type thing to introduce the second half? I hate to do this to you when I know you're just trying to push forward, GP. I'll shut up now. For the time being.

Jeez... It's been a long time, GP. Over here, between my rock band aspirations, shitty but economically crucial job, and my fiction writing dreams, it's a sea of madness. How's it going with you and your ass?
Seriously, though. I wish you all the bestest for a happy new year.

It's kinda weird just seeing him up there on a bare bones stage by himself. I can't decide if I like it. Well, no. I don't. For the money, I'd rather watch him fronting a band and rocking out and then maybe he does three songs by himself under a spotlight. That would leave a better impression.

Big juncture, eh? Wish I could say the same. I can't seem to put aside a block of time for writing lately. Maybe now that summer is over....
Ever heard of Post Modern Jukebox? Look it up on Youtube. Our singer is auditioning for them now and the band is basically just helping her prepare. That's how far from heavy metal I am these days. What in the wide world of sports is the world coming to?
Anyway, been missing you, too. How's your health and social life? You still getting front row at big concerts once a week? Did you go see Pearl Jam in Central Park the other day? Did you see the Pope and immediately collapse under the weight of all that holiness and guilt? Or are you the kind of gal who is more apt to swoon in the presence of The Donald than The Pontiff?
I can't wait to read some of your new and improved material, GP. Purely selfish, of course. I think giving you snarky comments and dubious advice helps to kickstart my own muse.
Cheers

Re: What Happened To Hamler (46 replies, posted in HodgePodge)
Hola! Hey, GP, why don't you REpublish chapter one and then just make the first seven (or so) chapters (revised, that is) live on the site? That way you don't spend a shit ton of points and you give yourself time to keep revising the next seven (disabled) chapters while your readers catch up. Am I making any sense?
My problem is if I get an idea in chapter six and it changes things, then I gotta go back and totally rewrite the first five. This is a vicious cycle, running in place, etc...
It's fucking hot in here. Mid 90's everyday for the past month now! In Seattle of all places! Where nobody has air conditioning. Because it's fucking Seattle. South Alaska for chrissakes...

Re: Music 'n' stuff (90 replies, posted in HodgePodge)
Funny you mention the slide guitar thing. Saw a guy at an "open-mic" gig (basically Karaoke with real instruments and original material) here in Seattle a couple of weeks back that totally blew my mind. Singing and shredding with nothing but a drummer backing him up. Made me wanna get religious, for chrissakes! He was that good and soulful and, frankly, strange. Just goes to show how much untapped talent there really is out there in the world.
Yes, me and my band aren't nearly that ambitious. Artistically, that is. We just wanna give the people what they want and get paid for it. Competition for slots is fierce, though. There are actually a helluva lot of venues to play in Seattle on any given nite but, twice as many acts vying for those spots. You know what I'm saying.
Anyhoo... How's the writing coming along? Seems like we're both in a rut of sorts. Having not published anything in quite the while. Thing is... How best to "hook" a reader here on TNBW? I myself am guilty of perusing somebody's opening chapter and then waiting -hoping- for a stimulating response to my amateur critique. In fact, I think that's how you and I became such goombahs. I probably said some wild-ass shit about your opening chapter and then you came back at me with as much, if not more, sassafras. The rest is history. As they say...
Cheers

Re: Music 'n' stuff (90 replies, posted in HodgePodge)
Don't get me wrong. Even if she is a "gay icon" and thus precludes me from "loving" her (lest my tough guy friends ridicule me) I still think Bette Midler is the shiznit. I secretly want my cover band to take "show tunes" and re-compose them into palatable dive bar pabulum, but... It's frankly too much hard work. We're lucky if we get two hours a week to rehearse. Which is a good thing, in the sense that we're getting gigs, but bad in the sense that we're not evolving.
Anyway... How did I make this all about me? Because that's what I do.
By the way, I think I was the first to glom on to New York City as a subject for the "apple contest" as most people went for the Adam and Eve Genesis storyline. But... Washington State (where I currently live) is ACTUALLY the biggest producer of edible apples in this country. But I don't have any good ideas about it. 100 words is rather constricting. Especially the way that I write. I mean, look at this forum post. I'm already way over 100 and I really haven't said a goddamned thing!
Cheers
John

I like Bette Midler. She's more a vaudevillian than a musician, though. Nothing wrong with musical theater, of course, it just leaves a less than lasting impression on me than rock and roll does. But that's just me.
By the way, have you ever seen Family Guy's rendition of The Rose? Well, now you have:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GSX339Os5mw
I've always thought that AND WHEN I DIE should be a Broadway show tune. Not the original Laura Nyro version (sorry, GP) but the Blood Sweat and Tears rendition.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8gxwutvlTw8
I'm trying to convince my band to cover this song (we've got a great harmonica player) but it's a hard sell. Believe it or not, I was the only one who'd ever even heard it before!
