Topic: Question...

Long as I've been here I oughta know how to do this, but... Can anyone tell me how to spend points and RE-PUBLISH a previously INACTIVE chapter so that it pops up on the front page where everybody can see it? You know, as opposed to simply making the chapter ACTIVE again.

Thanks

John

Re: Question...

I think you have to copy the content to a new version (increase the version number).  All the reviews remain with the old version. sad

Re: Question...

I'd tried once, and failed. I didn't have the time to f* with it, so I left it be. I'll be following this post to see if anyone else knows.

Re: Question...

I'm pretty sure that the versioning system was meant to replace the repub, but they may have taken some of the value away.

Re: Question...

Versioning, yes. That makes sense.

Re: Question...

Nope. That didn't work. Unless I'm just shit-eating stupid, that is. Which, let's face it... smile

Re: Question...

Have you tried deleting the chapter completely, and then publishing it again? Granted, you'll lose the reviews, but it will take it to the top of the list. You can always copy the reviews you have before deleting, then pasting them onto your hard drive.

Re: Question...

If you don't want to delete the old one you can re-number it 99 (or whatever) and make it inactive.

But I think the time has come to ask Sol on this one.

Re: Question...

Hi, John.

Once you edited the new text into the chapter and increment the revision number, you go to the top of the home page and select Portfolio in the right-hand dropdown., Find your story and in the right-hand drop-down of that row, select "Publish Setup". Review the setup and even if you don't change anything, Click the Update Publish Settings button. That should repost your story, deduct points, and put it at the top of the "new stuff" column.

Re: Question...

Publishing by using the "version" method amounts to the old "republishing" in that you keep your reviews and those who have reviewed can review again. The old version will still be there unless you delete or inactivate it. Take care. Vern

Re: Question...

As others have said, versioning is the way to "republish" work on the new site. I use it quite a bit. You can have many versions of the same chapter, usually as a way to hang onto old reviews associated with prior versions of the same chapter. For the most part, the workflow is similar to adding a new chapter, beginning with the Add Chapter step. When you reach the page where you specify the chapter number and chapter notes, choose the same chapter number as the one you want to replace, but increase the version number. As you follow the wizard, you'll have a chance to publish the new version, make it active, and make the older version inactive. If you want, you can keep older versions active as well, assuming you want feedback comparing the versions.
