Re: Site Bugs

Sol, I'd like to stay logged in. I bookmark the site, as I did with the old site, but i have to log in each time.

Also, the 'read' tab is low on the page, well below 'the fold.' I like seeing what's freshly posted right up front, on the first page pf the site. Now I have to hunt...
Thanks.

Re: Site Bugs

A few more things:

First, I thought the inline review would work like comments to a Word document so I could comment on different things. Yet I'm limited to five comments for the same number of points as if I made a more general review (I think inlines deserve more points for the extra time they take), and although I was ultimately able to leave 18 comments, I still couldn't finish. Then, I put comments in my 'final' response section and received no extra points for my effort. Doesn't seem 'inline' for some reason...

Next, Sol, there are some additional questions in the new 'feedback' thread. I'd love your answers to them.

Finally, there's no quick and easy link to the forums like before, and I'm confused about whether there will be sub-threads. One huge forum might be a bit messy, unless I'm confused (as usual!)

Thanks again.

Re: Site Bugs

I received an invite to a group from Susan Stec, and the message has a link to view group, but clicking on the link gives and error message: The requested URL /group-YA/New+Adult+crossover+-16 was not found on this server.

Re: Site Bugs

While hunting for a way to read authors' replies to reviews on the mobile, I clicked on the link for the chapter.  Instead, I was taken to the first chapter, with no warning that I would have to remember the secong part of the link (chapter) in order to finish the navigation.

Re: Site Bugs

On being logged out automatically: when Yahoo Mail does this, it leave me on a page with the login form, and even leaves the name field filled in.  You put me on a page where I need at least one click to bring up a login form.

THERE MAY BE A SECURITY BUG HERE!
I reviewed The Mantle of Magic by Amy_s, chapter 9.1.  I copied sections from the chapter into my review and quoted them with double angle brackets.

I see only single angle brackets and no content.  I fear that the HTML generator has converted only the outer angle brackets to the ampersand-escapes, leaving the inner part to be sent to the browser as a tag.  I'm on the smartphone now and cannot check.

Hi Sol! I received an in-line review - at least I think I did, lol! -  on my Chapter Thirty-five yesterday, but when I try to see it, all I get is the chapter itself, no comments, remarks, nothing. Probably just me, lol. What am I doing wrong?

You didn't receive an in-line review. It looks like you received a regular review. This means the review is at the bottom of the chapter, just like on the old site. It should also be readable from within your account.

Not sure if this is a bug or not, but checking the public side of my profile I noticed that projects I've disabled are showing up on the list. I know they aren't available once clicked on, but shouldn't disabling hide them? I'd like to control what the general public can see in my portfolio.

This is a cache issue. The site can sometimes take 5-10 minutes to reflect changes made. This is something we'll be tightening up over the next week. But after a bit, content you disable should disappear.

This is a bug. We're working on it.

There's a link under the name of each forum on your homepage.

There are no longer sub-forums. Each group has its own main forum. We noticed that most people tended to use one or two sub-forums on the old site so we consolidated and provides a running list of active threads.

Sounds like a bug. We'll check it out.

Re: Site Bugs

Sol, I entered the site as a member but not as a paying member. I may be confused about the one month upgrade trial period. I tried to post a screenplay submission to the TNBW premium group but it said I needed to upgrade first. But when I tried to upgrade it wouldn't let me because it said I was already upgraded as part of the trial period. I couldn't pay for an upgrade either, and I wasn't able to post in the TNBW premium group. I went ahead and posted my submission in the TNBW free group for now.

We're checking it out.

Re: Site Bugs

Hi SoIN and everyone who has worked tirelessly on this new site.  It will take me some time to figure it all out but I definitely will persevere. I am making myself a manual. TNBW is the best!  Irene Hamilton aka Kyla

Re: Site Bugs

Okay, I've got a screencap that demonstrates that the "html" generated is in fact the quoted text (IE's developer tools package).  How can I send it to you?

This occurs on the view-posted-comments page: http://www.thenextbigwriter.com/view-po … ent-264066

but not on the posting page: http://www.thenextbigwriter.com/posting … agic-18275

so it appears that you are using different display paths for the presentation of content.

How? I did it all a few weeks ago on the old site in preparation for coming here.

Re: Site Bugs

Word seems to be malfunctioning. It was fine at first but last night it became very slow, even stops completely while I go on typing keystrokes. I thought it might be my keyboard, but works fine everywhere but on TNBW. Is anyone else experiencing this?

I think you probably tested short stories. This is a problem unique to novels I think. We should have it fixed by early next week.

Is there a video window on your homepage?

No, it's not on my home page. It is on "MY Groups" page. Still getting used to navigating, so I guess there is a difference from the site home page and "My home page." I am still using the old URL for TNBW and get an error, but I still can login from there. Isthere a new URL that I can used for my forites?

Thanks,

Ernie

Okay, I know the problem. We are fixing it. If you want it resolved sooner, you can change your browser to Firefox or Chrome. But we'll have it fixed shortly either way.

You can use www.thenextbigwriter.com.

Re: Site Bugs

This is the second time it's happened--I did some major rewrite to one of my chapters, and when I hit save, I got kicked out of the site, to a red-outlined sign-in page.  That wouldn't be so bad, but all my work was lost.  (I do have back-up.)   What happened?  Also, I don't see any help for republishing.  With chapters split to form more chapters, should I just publish as if it's a new work?  Thanks.  JP

There is a problem that the site login session isn't lasing long enough. If you are "idle" for a period of time, you could get kicked off. We are in the process of fixing this and should have it done by next week. Sorry about this.

Republishing has been changed. Now you can version a chapter. So, instead of republishing, you can create Chapter 1, v2, etc. This allows you to see the old and new chapters. You can then decide to activate or deactive the older version. Another option is to publish new chapters and re-order your old chapters. You can do this easily by dragging and dropping the chapters from the Publish/Content page.

Sounds like you should keep a second window/tab open and periodically refresh it.  If that times out, you can log in again there.  Whether that would preserve your other open tab I don't know, but it would give you a chance to save your work.

Re: Site Bugs

Hello.
On my home page, I have a notice that I have 2 review replies. I have searched high and low for them and cannot find them. Can you either reset things so they show up, or see if this is a bug and reset it so the count is zero? I have reviews out there that have not been responded to, so I think they might be legit, but I simply cannot find them. I hope this isn't a recurring problem.

Did you click the notice on your homepage? Those will bring you right to them. You can also click Reviews and then Regular Posted. Your latest reviews and the replied will be there.
