Re: Bugs & Maintenance Requests

Well, it kicks me out too, but Bill and I are both "moderators", so not a standard account anymore. I've also been kicked out of the site many times for spending too much time in a forum, either writing a long post or simply leaving my screen open in a forum and walking away from my computer for a while. If you get a chance, perhaps try to reproduce the forum timeout. Perhaps you can figure out the exact bug and a fix. Ours is the only forum site I know of that does this.

Re: Bugs & Maintenance Requests

The forum has always been a bit buggy. Part of the issue is that it's integrated into the site as opposed to being one massive super forum. I'll check with the developers.

I'll also check on mods getting booted.

Thanks, Sol

Re: Bugs & Maintenance Requests

As an experiment, for the last two, I only Suspended the accounts. Both times, I got kicked off and had to log in again. However, if I Delete an account, this does not happen.

There is a lot of code for that page. Most of which I can't see to evaluate. It could be that since the person being Deleted MIGHT be logged in at the time, the site simply removes the page (and account)--catching the moderator as well. It could also be that the page refresh is doing something wrong by kicking anyone currently reading the page off the system while it rebuilds the page without the offending account on it.

I was kicked off too

Thanks for the testing. We'll take a look.

Re: Bugs & Maintenance Requests

kicked off again if it helps

Re: Bugs & Maintenance Requests

Something a little strange. I have "Auto Renew" set for my account, yet I had to manually renew today. It didn't do it automatically. Was this an artifact of the six months extra given to us?

Hi Bill,

It's possible. I'll have to take a look.

Re: Bugs & Maintenance Requests

Are people still getting kicked off?

Re: Bugs & Maintenance Requests

Yes. Every time I Delete a spammer. If I simply deactivate the account, I remain logged in.

Re: Bugs & Maintenance Requests

And I also still get kicked off if I stay too long in the forums. Fyi, I don't believe this problem existed years ago because I've written long brainstorming posts since we cut over to this site. Back then it never happened. Not sure when it first started. I believe Kdot looked at some of the site cookies at one time and found some that may contribute to the timeouts. My memory is fuzzy on that, though. I'll try using Edge for a while to see if the problem is just with Chrome, then post an update here.

Thanks.

Re: Bugs & Maintenance Requests

I wish to present my original theorem that we all get kicked off, not just the one mod

Re: Bugs & Maintenance Requests

Interesting. MS Edge has the same timeout problem in the forums. On a hunch, though, I went through all of my Google Chrome settings to see if any of my choices might be interfering with the operation of the site/forums. Mostly it involved carving out exceptions for TNBW in a number of my strict settings (e.g., tracking, advertising, popups, etc.).

The problem appears to have gone away; I left my cursor in one of the forum posts for much of the evening, and wasn't logged out (yet). It usually logs me out in under an hour. Let's hope it stays gone. I'll update this if it reappears.

EDIT: Cool. Well over 12 hours sitting in this forum/thread, and I still haven't been kicked off the site. I can die happy now. tongue

Re: Bugs & Maintenance Requests

Getting kicked off the site while deleting spam accounts is getting pretty annoying.

Still happening. Something Needs To Be Done.

Re: Bugs & Maintenance Requests

It almost sounds as though someone has inserted a bug making it hard to delete a spammer.  (Saith the suspicious retired programmer.)

I doubt Sol would do such a thing. A few greater priorities exist on this site than checking out a little thing like this. (I've been programming computers since 1962 -- using IBM punched cards and reel-to-reel tape as backup.)

But what about an intruder?

Re: Bugs & Maintenance Requests

We have this on the list. Sorry for the delay.

Re: Bugs & Maintenance Requests

I'm not sure if this is particularly important, but I thought I'd mention it. When I just submitted an inline review for Vern's Great Do-Over story, it shows the submitted time as 5:13 PM. Yet, I actually submitted the review around 11:30 AM local time (Mountain).

I assumed the time would vary due to time zones, but I'm not familiar with any islands in the Atlantic that are 5 hours and 45 minutes ahead of Mountain time. Is the server floating on the Great Pacific Garbage Patch island, perhaps? :-)

Re: Bugs & Maintenance Requests

Getting kicked off the site every single time I remove a spammer getting pretty old now. Could we get something done about this?
