Re: Site Bugs 2

I've posted 2 or 3 long reviews (400+ words) and the last parts of the reviews were truncated.  Shorter reviews seem to be no problem. What gives? And, how can I make sure that complete review are posted in the future?
The complete review is still visible if I click back to the review page, therefore I know that the full review existed in the first place.

Can you message me with an example of a truncated review. Thanks.

Re: Site Bugs 2

Hi, Sol. I just got another email concerning your "Show versus Tell" class. Every one of them including this one, reports "Not Authorized". If I'm not authorized, why am I getting them?

Are you signed up for the class? I don't think so. If not, you shouldn't be receiving the messages. I will look into it.

Re: Site Bugs 2

I have just tried to mass-delete a few old messages. Clicking the "check all below" box puts checkmarks into each of the listed messages on that page, but clicking the Trash Can (and answering the faded-screen pop-up with YES), none of them went away. They still remain. I am reduced to deleting each one of them separately and getting that blacked-out screen every time. A massive PITA.
Is this by design, or a bug?

Hi Tom, I just tested it and it worked fine. My guess is that based on the problems you are having your browser does not play nice with the site.

Re: Site Bugs 2

I am a member of several different groups. I usually post my manuscript to all of them at once by making sure the little boxes are checked. From time to time I have updated a chapter to reflect changes I have made after a review. However, I must be short cutting part of the process. I keep getting reviews back that show some the old mistakes I intended to correct. I would appreciate any response if you have some idea about what I need to be doing. This is an intermediate step. I will post an other draft later that can be re-review for points later.

I advise you to check your actual content and see if the changes you are making are being saved. As long as you change the manuscript and then hit the Next button at the bottom of the page, it should be saving them.

Re: Site Bugs 2

Mobile interface: I press the menu button and enter a title in the searchbox.  I touch on the magnifying glass and get buttons for writer search/posting search.  I click on posting an the background color of that buttons changes.  I get a listing of writers, no postings.

Re: Site Bugs 2

Thanks for all the answers, Sol.

The editing problem has occurred using not only my normal browser (Pale Moon, a derivative of Firefox) but the latest incarnation of Firefox. Not all the time, but enough to me annoying, I still get gaps and stuck keys. By 'gaps' I mean I hit a key, but nothing gets entered no matter how hard I hit the key. As for repeats, I can barely tough the key and I get several repeats. This problem appears to happen after I highlight a phrase and then use the mouse to drag the highlight to a new spot and then release the mouse. Following that action, I get the kayboard failures.

I am not signed up for the class, but I've received two emails for it - both gave me 'Not Authorized'. These could have been random glitches as I imagine there have been quite a few more than just two notifications sent out.

The mass-delete failures occur in the above mentioned browsers all the time, not just occasionally. I've done some testing and found that I can check 6 boxes and all 6 will be deleted at the same time. If I check 7 boxes or more, including the 'delete everything on the page' box at the top, then none get deleted.

Re: Site Bugs 2

Dragging didn't work for chapters. But you can reorder them by clicking on the chapter number on the left column. Have you tried that? The number is actually an action link.

Re: Site Bugs 2

Sol, when you have a moment to come up for air, I was wondering if you can purge an orphan inline reply from Don Chambers for me. He deleted the chapter after I reviewed it and he had responded. It's his response I can no longer access and, therefore, can't clear the "new reply" count, which is stuck at 1. Just a minor nuisance, so no rush.

Thanks.

Re: Site Bugs 2

I am able to enter the chapter number area in the left column, but don't see how to reorder them from there since all three chapters are "1

If you click into the chapter to edit, you can change the version number. This allows you to rearrange the order of the versions within a chapter.

This bug was supposed to have been fixed. Do you still see the reply?

Re: Site Bugs 2

Yes, the reply is still there. I had two, but one of them disappeared quite a while ago (weeks, if not longer).

Also, that hanging problem has come back. 149 seconds to load the page. A second browser tab attempting to load the TNBW home page also hung. The problem was gone for about two weeks, then came back about two to three days ago.

Thanks.

Re: Site Bugs 2

There are times when TNBW seems to become unresponsive.  When a page seems to get stuck loading, I test the network by bringing up freebsd.org, which is one of the most reliable sites on the entire web.  If it loads quickly, I know that the problem is not near me in the network.

Re: Site Bugs 2

Minor annoyance here.

I was reviewing some of my pending connection requests. When I click on the link to show me the message I sent, the page jumps to the top and I have to scroll back down to read the message. Clicking on another message produces the same results. Kind of annoying to have to do all that scrolling.

Re: Site Bugs 2

Sol, if you're still trying to work out those long response times, it happened several times around 5:45 AM Eastern Time today (May 3).

Re: Site Bugs 2

Just did a review, posted it, then the content page appeared again, with my review, and I posted it a second time. Two reviews of the same crit? Seems like a bug to me. Although, I did add one comment to the 2nd post. Is that how it is supposed to work?
Tanks-måx

You can post as many reviews as you want but you will only get points for the first one.

Re: Site Bugs 2

Happened again, Sol. I wrote a review that contained 55 words. When it posted, I didn't get the points because it said I had only 47 words. What happened?

Re: Site Bugs 2

Sol-Thanks for the explanation. I'm working around those little things--they're not a problem, considering all the benefits of membership.  JP

Re: Site Bugs 2

When I go to respond to an inline review on my (big) desktop, the response field is only 1 inch x 2 inches in size. Naturally, it's quite difficult to write coherent thoughts in such a small space.

When I go back in to view my given response, the field is the size it should be.

Thanks.

Re: Site Bugs 2

Sol, how do I find the contests page on the mobile site?  The menu button's link take me to my entries only.

Great question. On the regular site there used to be a notice about contests in the top right above the groups listing, from there you could click on a contest and then work backwards to other contests. Now that's gone and I don't see any way to get to contests at all.
****Edit****
Apparently I just don't look around enough. On the regular site you can access by going to Read at the top and Writing Contests is at the bottom of the list. Maybe it's the same for Mobile?

I do wish the closed contests had an update with the winners and a link to their winning entry. Announcing only in the sponsoring group forum seems to reduce the publicity of the contests.

Re: Site Bugs 2

I don't see those links.

Good idea. I will do tomorrow for all of the contests we have run so far.

Do you see a menu button on the top right? On my ipad, I have a menu button and if I click on that and scroll down  there is a link for contests.

But it doesn't show the master contests page, only my entries.  There's no way I can find to get to the master Contests page, or to any particular contest.
