Sol:

Strange things are definitely afoot here. If I am at any other site, or doing anything else on my computer, my keyboard is just fine. But, on this site, there are periods of time that some keys (they seem to occur at random) will fail. I hit them, but nothing shows up. Just doing this post, the "v', "c", Enter, and "e'" keys failed on me. If I highlight the text I've already done and copy it. I can refresh the page, paste back, and all the keys are back working just fine. Sooner or later, another few keys begin to fail.

Is the site editor at fault? Are you filtering for special keys or something?

Re: Site Bugs 2

Hi, Sol--I have a message that won't go away.  I reviewed a work, and the work was taken down before I got to read the author's response.  So the link to the reply goes nowhere, except to tell me the work has been removed.  But I still have that red button on my home page telling me I have a review reply, and I can't find a way to get rid of it.  Is it something I can handle?  If so, how?  Thanks.

We will look into this case. I realize this could happen and we'll get a fix for it.

Re: Site Bugs 2

Something is happening here.  I sent a message yesterday that went through eighteen times.  Then the site went completely unresponsive.  I had to leave the site, and come back again to do any work.

Okay. I'll look into it.

It could be the editor doesn't use one, so it's not related to that. The forum just uses a text box. I think this is something more specific to your computer or browser. What browser are you using?

Re: Site Bugs 2

I use either Pale Moon (v25.3.0), or the latest Firefox. Does the same thing on both browsers. Won't do it on Booksie, however.

Dirk,
I am referring to the drop down menu on the send a message page. The scrolling bar will not go all the way through the list, leaving off names, the number of which will increase as I acquire more contacts. If I am messaging a contact below where the bar stops for the first time I can't message that contact.

What are you are describing is the search engine of your message archive. It doesn't work if there are no messages from that person to tack my new message on to.

Re: Site Bugs 2

Actually, dagnee, I think we're talking about the same bug. On the Send a Message tab, there is a scrollable list that cuts off too soon and you can't see all of your connections. When you click on the list to see the names, right above the first name, a text field appears that you can type into. If you type in the first few letters of the connection name, it automatically filters the list as you type. It's a workaround, but it should make it manageable.

Okay, I see what you mean. But I still want to scroll through all of my contacts.

Re: Site Bugs 2

This may have already been reported, but my home page shows that I have two new inline review replies. When I click to view the actual reply I get a page not found error for both chapters because the author has since taken them down. My home page still says I have two new inline review replies, even after I try to view them. It's for Don Chamber's book, Frozen Tide. He removed chapters 16 and up.

Thanks.
Dirk

Re: Site Bugs 2

Has happened to me too. They eventually don't show up, or were fixed.

Re: Site Bugs 2

I attempted to go back to erin silverman's Meditations on Murder and got the message Not Authorized//Please join one of these groups (etc): TheNextBigWriter Premium Group.

I don't know whether I am now authorized to read that work, but if I'm not, it's not for the reason given.

Re: Site Bugs 2

Sol, is anyone else reported having trouble getting email links to work on Android phones (using the phone's default mail client)? It's the links you provide in emails about new content, new messages, new forum posts, etc. The email shows the link's html text, but it's not clickable. The same email opened in gmail from my desktop has the clickable link and works as expected. I'm running Android KitKat on a Moto G phone.

Thanks.
Dirk

Re: Site Bugs 2

Something is wrong with the word counts. I just reviewed on of Lesley's chapters and saw it was 55 words. I clicked the Post Regular Review button and when it posted, I found it was only 49 words - and I didn't get the points.

So, which is it? The word count in the edit box of the review, or the final count when posted? How could they be different?

Re: Site Bugs 2

Not sure if this is the right place to post, but here goes:  I tried to read the work of a fellow Cop Shop group member, but got the notice that I needed to connect with the author.  The piece was marked for group members and connections.  Does that mean we have to be both group members AND connected?  Also, since we're all members of Premium Group, doesn't that make us all members of the same group?  Thanks for your help.  JP

Re: Site Bugs 2

Tom, that happened to me also on two reviews I did for Gray Martin. I asked Sol, but never got a reply on that issue. I went back and did two inlines.

JP, you still might have to make the connection. If the piece was not posted in Cop Shop and you aren't connected, the author's settings might have Only Connections. Not sure. I sure hope the person didn't block you. Who have you angered? smile

Re: Site Bugs 2

Hey Sol,
Finally, I get back to writing, exploring possibilities here and using this site and I realize how powerful this application is. I've used most of the writing sites on the web and I think you now have the best one for motivated, mature, adult writers.

Thanks! max

I have to agree. I joined two other sites and it was like getting a bill through congress just to post. One site required five credits to post anything, then you waited days even weeks to get your work visible, THEN after it had been up three months they LOCKED it meaning you had to come up with five more credits to get unlocked if someone saw it in your portfolio and wanted to read it. The other site put your work on a que, meaning it would be visible to the rest of the site as soon as the other work on the list got three reviews. To post a novel on this site required watching a video.

What I really like about this site is that my work will be seen as soon as I post it and will stay active until I decide to deactivate it. I also like all the controls over our content this site provides, that of dumping rude and unhelpful reviews, (on the old site a rude review would stay attached to your work forever unless you deleted it and republished or asked SolN to remove it), and that you can block those people who live to ridicule work from reading and reviewing yours.

I feel like I am in control here whereas at the other sites I felt I was being controlled.

I did go ahead and request the connection, Janet.  It couldn't hurt.  The only thing is I don't want to make connections with so many people I can't review all their work.  I feel like I'm neglecting friends when I don't review their work.

And Janet, I decided not to anger anyone this week.  JP

WAIT!  I just thought of something else--if Cop Shop is no points, and people access a story through the group, does that mean they do't get points for their review, even if it is posted to Premium Group for points?  If that's the case, we need to change the Cop Shop group status back to points.

Re: Site Bugs 2

Let them review in Premium, jp. I know I'm not going to post in 2 groups for double points.

I thought we weren't charged extra for posting in multiple groups anymore.  Sol, where are you?

1.  When we have our contest, we need the stories posted in Cop Shop so people can find them to review.
2.  When people take the time to review our stories, they should receive points.
Therefore, we need to make sure that people reviewing Cop Shop stories receive points.

(I didn't do that well with logic in Geometry; you know what I mean.)

As long as you are members of the same group and they post to groups then you shouldn't need to also connect with them. If you are getting problems try logging out and then back in and see if that resolves it. Let me know.

You should not be charged extra for posting to multiple points groups. Once you pay for points once, you can post to any points group.

If you want to change Cop Shop to a points group you can do that. It might make sense with the changes in the point system.

Re: Site Bugs 2

Yes, I think we should go back to being a points group.  The no-points status was supposed to be temporary, until we were able to post in multiple groups for one fee.  Please go ahead and change us back.  Thank you.  JP

Re: Site Bugs 2

So long as it doesn't cost multiple points.

It's a different day, and I'm still getting the message to connect with the person in order to read their work.  JP
