Re: Site Bugs 2
Someone has to take a look at the word-count routines. I just posted a short review (of, it said, 13 words). When it showed up under the post, it reported 9 words.
Something is definitely wrong, Sol.

We have strong evidence that at least some of the text-handling logic is closely wedded to the HTML parse tree (and thus perhaps to the structure of the DOM model representation). That's the first place I would look for this anomaly.
But then, I've never lifted the hood on this baby.
I thought it was me at first, but this has happened before. I parked a review I was in the middle of and when I returned, it was still there saved but my comments were all gone.

Tom, have you tried to contact Sol directly? I'm not sure if he always sees all the posts.
At the moment, Sol has a lot on his plate. He (and others, presumably) are working on changes to the Booksie site. This isn't a pressing thing here - annoying, yes - but not pressing.

Contact Sol. It might not seem pressing to you, but when a person is counting on the points from a regular review and doesn't get them b/c they are shorted on word count, that get more than annoying.
I'm doing inline reviews now and it looks like the algorithms for deciding what to capture in the highlighting operation have gone from perverse to outright scatalogical. It's almost impossible to capture the two words crossing the end of a text line (NOT paragraph break; that's an existing problem). The thing wants to NOT capture the last word on a line, and insists on capturing an extra word after the start of the line. Is the DOM thing that rebarbative?
This is not a bug, Sol, just an observation. Following my last round of ophthalmology treatment, I find that trying to read how many points I have on my home page is nearly impossible. The choice of grey background and white font (all the rest is in blue, which contrasts nicely) makes it hard to read the numbers. Could that be changed to blue also?
~Tom
I find that sometimes when I open an in-line review that I've done I get a full editor for the final comments, and sometimes I get a tiny window that shows the HTML form.
It appears that the full edit window appears in the inline presentation and the tiny, HTML-format window appears in the x-line presentation. This looks like unplanned behavior.
Would it be feasible to make the x-line presentation also put up the full editor for the final comments?
This problem seem ridiculous compared to all the above BUT have been trying for days to change profile image.. I follow the instructions and have done it before OR the image showing wouldn't be there.. tried the same procedure used over and over and Nada.. same sized image and all.. Is there a glitch somewhere? Not a huge problem but it is nice to be able to change it once in awhile. Especially if using one's own art.

WAIT.. that is the image... the fisherman ... why is it showing here and not on my homepage..? I'm more confused than ever..
So.. I changed it and viola.. while it changes it here? I doesn't on the homepage? What am I doing wrong?
I've observed the delay in image changes from one part of the website to another when my regular correspondents make changes.
At a guess, I'd say that the integration of the site components is relatively loose, requiring changes to be propagated at some point by scheduled jobs ... and some are scheduled to run more frequently that others. In the worst case, there will be two or more such jobs in a path, and they will be scheduled in reverse order, so that at each step the thing to propagate must wait almost a whole cycle--like traffic lights that go red as you reach each one.
But all of this is guesses.
Sol, have we fixed the 'subscription must expire before you can change the credit card' problem? Mine had to be cancelled on account of fraud.

It should be fixed. Give it a try and let me know if you still experience problems. We tested and I haven't heard of any problems since.
I just discovered another bug, Sol. When I post an answer in any forum, once it appears the top buttons (personal dropdow and Search) stop working. I have to refresh the page to get it back.

I just added a paragraph to a published chapter and made some edits. When I went to Save & View Chapter Content, the page asked me for my login & password. After entering these details it brought me back to the chapter I was editing but my edits were gone.
Has this ever happened to anyone? Does anyone know if it's possible to recover the missing edits?
You might try the browser's BACK button. Depending on the browser and the progrsmming of the web page, your changes.might still be there, waiting to be entered.
But yes, it's a nasty corner case in design.
That didn't work either, but thanks for the suggestion. Also tried to get it from Chrome's history but no luck.
Mental note - edit in Word, not online from now on
I never edit online for that very reason, Suin. I used to, but I kept forgetting to make the same changes to my master copy on disk and they'd be hopelessly out-of-sync.
