Topic: inline reviews are showing up too soon

Sol, the inline reviews that people are writing are showing up on the author's home page before the review is finished. I've run into this four times already, either where I was reading what looked like an abandoned review, or someone thought I had done the same.

Based on my experience, others may be encountering this too without realizing it.

Please prioritize this, if you could.

Thanks.
Dirk

Re: inline reviews are showing up too soon

I noticed this as well. I had to stop in the middle of a review and when I came back the author had already responded.

Re: inline reviews are showing up too soon

This just happened to me. I went in to one of my pieces to look at an in-line review, and saw the whole thing was blank. I assumed it was a botched review abandoned by the reviewer, so left a message.

I have pointed this out already, recommending that the site distinguish between the action of SAVING A REVIEW IN PROCESS from POSTING A FINISHED REVIEW.  This is a serious flaw in the work flow and the very first thing I noticed about the site when I joined and wrote my first complaint on the matter.  Sol indicated shortly thereafter this was in the works, but I agree it should be a priority, as I can never finish a review in one sitting and it bothers me that my half done reviews are being read before I have time to do a final once over.   This is compounded by the problem that the closing comments don't auto-save, so you can't start these and pick back up on them...frustrating.

Re: inline reviews are showing up too soon

I haven't been hit by this part of this problem, but I suspect that the difficulty runs deep in the site's model of a review.  If so it may be hard to fix.  For what little it's worth, were I starting with this as a project, I would not likely realize that reviews would be composed like this.

On the other hand, if fixing it requires going back and making deep changes in the data model of a review, I'd encourage Sol and his team to look into some of the other issues that have been raised, to be sure that the new model can accomodate the other fixes/enhancements.

Re: inline reviews are showing up too soon

This just happened to me while I was reviewing Ann Evert's book, chapter 18, I think. Right in the middle of typing a comment inline, it just snapped back to the first chapter. When I got back to the chapter I was working on, it said I already left a review, but I'm not sure I got credit for it. This is the first time I had this happen.

Re: inline reviews are showing up too soon

Yeah, that happened to me, too. And since I hadn't yet reached the 5-review minimum, I got no points.

Re: inline reviews are showing up too soon

The in-line review starts savings the minute you type something in. You can go back at any time and add more so that you can get the points and also further refine your review.

We're making some changes to this process so you can decide when you want to submit it.

Re: inline reviews are showing up too soon

Thank you, Sol.

Re: inline reviews are showing up too soon

This will be fixed in the next day or two. You'll have the ability to save the in-line and then come back and finish and post it when you are done.

Re: inline reviews are showing up too soon

I wondered about that as I had an in-line review that only had one word highlighted and nothing more. I also assumed that the person reviewing either logged out, or got kicked off the site for some reason.

Re: inline reviews are showing up too soon

I've run into this problem too. I get notices for new reviews before they're actually done, and then if I open up an unfinished review, it disappears. I hope I did not erase my reviewers work by doing this! Until the bug is fixed, it occurs to me that it might help to avoid opening up a new in-line review until the closing comment is displayed - indicating the review is finished.
