Topic: Hello, I'm Elspeth

Hi folks, I'm a new member and new to this site.  I've been looking for an online writing group, searching for motivation, courage and advice, and hope I've found that here.
I make good starts, but lose steam and confidence quickly.
I posted a very short essay, My Life on the Sofa, and would love to hear feedback or get an in-line review.
Thanks for your time, and for having me here.
Elspeth

Hello Elspeth.  I should have you write my openings, since that seems to be the thing I find most trying.
I'll give your stuff a read.

Welcome Elspeth!  TNBW is exactly where you want to be. Plenty of helpful people to provide assistance. Regards, Randall

Welcome, Elspeth!  You'll find this a very helpful site and may make some friends, or at least, writing buddies, here.

Re: Hello, I'm Elspeth

Hi Elspeth! Welcome to our writing community. We're an eclectic bunch, but that's what makes us special. Everyone was a Newbie once. So jump in, the water's fine. BTW, love the picture of your dog.
Cheers,
~Lynn

Re: Hello, I'm Elspeth

Thank you, everyone.  I do feel welcome!  I just wish there was a phone app for this forum, so I could obsessively check for reviews of my work.  Probably better not.

By the way, my fingers are itching to add emoticons and other cheap indications of emotions (multiple exclamation points, dashes between ideas, etc.).  I'm restraining myself with great effort.  I can't call myself a writer if I can't express emotions via words and have to substitute modern hieroglyphs instead.  Please excuse me if one slips out here and there.  I know that's gauche.  I'm trying to reform.

The site works on a very old Android phone of mine, so I assume it works for newer ones too. Also, I believe Temple uses an iPad. Not sure about the iPhone.

Re: Hello, I'm Elspeth

If you want to use emoticons, wait until you see one in the forums and hit Quote on that post. It will show you how the icons are created. Or try Googling it. I'm old-fashioned and still use :-) ;-) tongue etc. I figure if modern developers expect me to step into a driverless car someday, then they first have to detect the smiley faces everyone used for decades and automatically convert them into modern icons.

EDIT: I see the forum automatically converts ":P" into an icon, but not the much more common simple smiley.
