I went to a concert the other night with some friends. We're a group of eight, and we bought the tickets the moment they went on sale (November, I think?). During that time, one of the members of our group, we'll call her Linda, had emergency surgery. Her husband called me that night, and we prayed. She's been through so much. Of all the people in our little circle, she's one of the weakest.

Anyway, I hadn't seen her for nearly four weeks. But that night, when Linda walked up to me, smiling, I saw God as a glimmer of healthy joy in her eyes.

I didn't know there was another Christian group. I try not to join these self-dividing groups (Christian/Atheist/Jewish/Muslim/ad nauseum), but mikira invited me on a day I was feeling it, so I joined. I do agree that if there's someone who wants to know what a Christian thinks/feels/says about a certain topic, we should be easy to find.

I'll wait and see what kind of traffic is stirred up here, but so far, no problems.

There are many, many stories regarding a world-wide flood. I've provided a link to the wiki story here on Gilgamesh and the great flood. And yes, the idea of genocide on such a global scale is gut-wrenching. However...

One must remember that, prior to becoming the chosen ones, the Hebrews were nomads. They wandered everywhere and heard tales from every culture. Being a nomadic tribe lends one to being influenced by these cultures. They might have incorporated these tales into their own histories. I can imagine how such a thing might transpire. Let's not call it plagiarism, per se, but instead, a case of literary license.

We, as Christians, are guilty of the very same sin. Does anyone really believe that our Savior was born on December 25th?

So, yes, I believe the flood was real. Yes, countless numbers of humans died, but not necessarily from anything more than an imperfect planet.

Hi Everyone,

When first invited to join this group, I gladly did so. But something felt off about it. The why of it came to me last night. It's the name of this group that makes me uncomfortable. To call this "Brave" due to our profession of faith in an American based public forum is ludicrous. We are no braver than the beach goers who will stand only ankle deep in the surf. No braver than the gathering crowd of onlookers behind the perceived safety of the police line. No braver than those pew-warmers at Sunday Service. Here in America, the worst that Christians stand to suffer for our faith is a few ignorant name callers. Which we’ve all faced, and somehow survived, faith intact.

If we were gathered in Iran, Egypt, Libya, or God forbid, Syria, and posted this, then yes, we would be brave. But we’re not. We are safely ensconced in our cocoon of a generally non-violent society. As my husband and I often conclude after such discussions, “Birth Lotto!” accompanied by a high-five.

I am neither left, right, nor centrist. All of those titles, including my original denomination, I reject. I am a dedicated follower of Yeshua ben Yosef. Of His teachings, His actions, His discipleship to God. His death. His resurrection. This makes me nothing more than a Christian.

Throw out that old, worn acronym, and truly place Christ in any situation. The Christ you know and love. The man who walked this earth. Imagine He is seated next to you. Now, remember He knows all that you have, and haven’t done.

Are you squirming? No? Huh. I am.

The next time you’re traveling, and you encounter a person holding a sign reading Will work for food, try to imagine how our Savior would see that unfortunate one. What would He do? Then do that.

The next time you're standing in a line, and there's a disruption (child crying, someone juggling items, someone cutting in line), try to imagine what our Savior would feel. What would He do? Then do that.

Now that would be brave.

As a group of Christians gathered together, we should be sharing how Christ walks with us each day. I have a challenge for you. Post something here each time you see/think/feel Christian. Remember, we’re taught to keep our words humble. So, no braggarts.

If you already do keep Christ first in all things, then it is an honor to be associated with you. There are very few humans who manage to do that, this typist among them. This is why the Lord told us to be accountable to one another.

I’ll end this with a caption I’d read long ago that still resonates for me.
“If Christianity were outlawed tomorrow, would there be enough evidence to convict you?”

Who's brave? Post how you saw God today...

Thanks, mikira.

I'm going to start a new thread and call it, I saw God today. I'll copy/paste my challenge above. Thanks for the opportunity.

Just read your piece. I gotta say...

BWAAHAHAHAHA!

Talk about having a bad day. I suppose she could have been "Republican Scum" so identified by the BSticker, but, is it possible, even remotely, it wasn't her car and she was trying not to bump her boyfriend/daddy's/child's precious? Probably not, but sometimes I try to be the devil's advocate.

Are my horns showing?

Hi folks,

My story is too long to cover here. I don't really like going into it, anyway. But, I was born again in the fourth grade, and good thing, too. I should be dead. Several times over. The old axiom, "There but for the Grace of God go I" is my calling card. I am a FIRM believer that there is only ONE unforgivable sin. All others can be redeemed.

Call Him what you will. He lives. He blesses. He forgives. He saves.

WPA chiming in here. Not only am I Without Party Affiliation, I also am very vocal as to my born-again Christian status. I've set myself up for hate speech on so many occasions. But, alas, the only one who took the bait (once) ended up having a cyberspace drink with me as we bellied up to the bar and ordered a round. Although, he hasn't spoken to me much since. So be it.

My point is, if you put something out there like that, you may have been (inadvertently) looking for trouble. You shouldn't complain when it found you. You should brag. Well, just a little.

I'm up to seven books on my shelf, so far. It let me know that I've given a regular review of C01 Spectacular Rides, and am good to go for C02, Big Eli.  Oh, and there's one more thing. It's publicly viewable. That is, if someone goes on your profile page, they can check to see what books you've got on your TNBW bookshelf. I don't see the drawback to that, as of yet, but there are some people that can ruin anything.

That's when we duck in here and b*tch a little. Or a lot.

No! Really! I do!

"...Added to limited time, my other problem is my shocking memory.  And with this new site, I just can't seem to get my "who to review" system to work.

The reading list is useless - it takes you to Chapter 1 of the piece and not the next chapter you need to review or the last chapter you had reviewed.  The old reading list saved "chapters", not books, so I used that function on the old site to the max to keep track of who and how much I have reviewed and who or what was next.  So now, I'm using my reading list more like a "to-do" list than anything else..."

Hey! Everyone! I've figured it out!

You find the book you want to review. When it's displayed on your screen, select the "shelfit" option. That puts the book on your bookshelf. Then, the next time you're ready to review, you use the pull down menu with your name on it (upper right corner, should be a blue bar). Select 'Bookshelf'. When you open the book from there, the default shows Chapter One. Select THAT bar. (Chapter One, it's blue, too. At least on mine it is.) THIS is where the indicator is as to what chapter you last reviewed. Voilà!

I'm catching up on the recips I owe to my fellow writers. I've still got a ways to go, but I'm making headway. Hope this helps someone else along the line.

Oh, wait, this Fight Club. Um... Yeah! So there! No more excuses! Get to work, ya scurvy scum!

Except on mine. I don't have anything new to review. So, go to others. That is, until I have something new posted, THEN ye best be reviewing!

On a side note...  Thanks dags, for the articles on the State of Islam. It brought to mind a conversation held between myself and a former soldier. If I may?

A friend of my son's, let's call him Bob, has served four tours in the middle east. 'Boots on the ground' as they say. I've known Bob since he was in grade-school, and he has always struck me as a quiet introvert. A true gentle man, with a glimmer of menace. His religious views, when pressed, were moderate. One might call him agnostic. He retired with an officer's title, after having enlisted right out of high school.

During one of his visits, while sipping Jameson and admiring the stars, he spoke of the time he was assigned to guard a few captured enemies. He divulged nothing in regard to the where/when/why of the situation (that is how one earned the honor of hearing his stories. You don't ask questions). To his benefit, he understands Farsi, although he claims not to speak it. The prisoners, unaware of his ability, spoke freely to one another regarding their containment, and their captors. The one resounding message that came from their mouths was their hatred of Americans. Not just the man who stood within five feet of them holding the gun, but of all Americans. Every race, religion, creed, received their vitriolic, poisonous tirades. Bob claims to have never heard such racism as what was spoken in that building, that day.

Then Bob stared hard into my eyes and said, "The one binding force for the entire Muslim world is their hatred of Americans."

Dagny it is. Thanks again, you wonderful person, you!

I was at the keyboard formatting late last night and hitting it early this morning. There is only one thing left to say...

I HATE WORD!

That is all.

Hey Everyone! I'm on the final stage of getting McShane #3 (Hurricane or Homicide) uploaded to Kindle. I want to share a paragraph from the Acknowledgement page.

"...This series would not be what it is without the support of my writing circle of friends at The Next Big Writer. My sincerest thanks to Charles Brass, JudyS, Janet Reid, Dagnee, jack, jp lundstrom, and Nathan B. Childs. Thank you for your time, effort and talents given to Sam..."

The draft was worked on the old site, in October of '14. Thanks to my editor, a LOT changed since it was posted here. But, that's how long it's taken to work around my life and write. I'm sure you know of what I speak.

If any of you would like for me to create a hyperlink for your name, provide it here and I'll upload it.

But mostly, my sincerest thanks to each of you. I still promise to return the reviews before I post anything new here.
~JL Mo

I haven't been getting ANY email notices of my connections posting content. Same problem I had with the old system. I didn't receive any notices of Charles Brass posting, for instance. I'll (triple) check my settings, just to be sure, but if you could look into that, I'd appreciate it.

Edit - - -

I just checked my connections, and all do show as 'yes' to notify. Thanks again.

I also tried to only connect with writers I need to recip - that way, I only needed to keep an eye on my new connection content.  That quickly went down to the drain as I have used the messaging functionality to send private messages to writers that I just simply can not review at the moment because I can't keep up with the recips as it is.

Short of running a paper or Excel reading list on the side, I'm out of ideas to keep it all together on the site.  So if anyone has a suggestion for a fish bowl brain like mine (yes, fish bowl, not goldfish smile ), please let me know!  Who knows, end of 2016 I might just say thank you with a review of your work!

I realize this thread is "Fight Club" but I have to sing the praises of Janet for a moment.   ♫ Thank you! ♫ Thank you! ♫ Thank you! ♫

It is so nice to know that I am not the ONLY one having this problem. I cannot keep up with the postings, always being sent back to the first page, and not knowing where the HELL I left off at. Fearing it was age-related, I didn't want to ask/say anything. The person who can explain how to "bookmark" where one leaves off wins our deep-felt appreciation, and, at least TWO reviews of your work.

I liked CJ's post, but my eyebrows crawled to my scalp when I read, "...So easy to kill. So easy to die..." and I had to reply.

Only in novels, my friend. Only in novels.

That your spell checker changed prophet to profit was funny.  But your belief that a cartoon of Muhammad would be sated by a cartoon of Charlie Hebdo was hilarious!

Here's my problem. I'm a hoarder. Not in the physical sense, but in the digital. I have saved texts in my word processor that I wrote to email. Now, I have a copy on my hard drive, in my email, and as an extra slice of security, on a removable disk. You would think it was a letter to the President, but, no, just a note to a friend. Nothing important. Just a note.

The bigger problem is I can't find a note I wrote to a supplier last week. I know there are at least three copies! ARG!

I'm trying to overcome my obsession. For instance, this text... typing it right into the dialog box of the site. Not gonna save it anywhere else.

NOT GONNA... AAAARRRGGGG! (select all/copy/open processor/paste/save)

How about points assessed in a range? 0 to 500 = eight points, 501 to 1000 = sixteen points, etc. Why make this more complicated than it has to be? If I post a story at 499 points, I'm charged a fixed fee. If I edit it to 600, I'm charged the new fee.

Also, if some shyster is trying to scam the system, don't you have other means to target them, rather than punish the entire community?

Edit:
Wasn't one of the perks of being premium originally offered that you could have "unlimited" groups? Maybe I dreamed that...
