Second on the recommendation for Rebecca Vaugn's stories.
They sound a little early for you, but they won't waste your time. Look around, find writers you're comfortable with. With luck, they'll be comfortable with you and you can reciprocate reviews. That's part of the ettiquette here: recip when you can, and if you feel you really, really, cannot help another writer because of the style differences, apologize for not being able to recip. Of course, the other writer may enjoy your story so much s/he continues to review!
Oh, try Amy_s's short stories. They're so good I have almost nothing to say about them.

The same could be said of letting kids into public libraries, unfortunately. Not all 12-year-olds are at a 12-year-old level. Not all 16-year-olds are at a 16-year level. Hard age limits are guesstimates, and more often wrong than right. The trick is keeping them from going too far wrong.

A forum-per-work would, ideally, be connected to the review structure.

You are understanding me, actually. But I could modify that and allow the user to decide whether a work merited a new forum thread or not.

Re: Wishlist Cont. (212 replies, posted in TheNextBigWriter Premium)
Much bigger wish item: for each author, and for each work, an authomatically created forum thread that appears in its own place AND ALSO can, at the author's discretion, appear in each or any of the groups in which the author is a member. For the 'root' groups (premium and ?base?) the author/work threads should probably be shunted to a nested set of forums.

Those red eyes, and the legends associated with them, will mark Silas among those he meets. And his performance as a berserker will not recommend him as a diplomat or statesman, but as a warrior.
To establish him otherwise among kin, nobility, and King will take time and the passing of events.

Re: The Hollow Man (66 replies, posted in Fantasy/Magic & Sci-Fi)
The most important thing is that Silas's story is interesting. It will help if we can like him.
We've been told that people are calling him The Butcher of V----. Do we think of him that way? If not, he's already wronged (in our minds) and thus sympathetic.

Re: The Hollow Man (66 replies, posted in Fantasy/Magic & Sci-Fi)
Then either your story follows this or defies it. There is conflict in how he is regarded. The most 'organic' thing, at this point and neglecting later story arc issues, would be to play out that conflict in a way that determines the next part of Silas's story.
And, of course, we must ask how all these things comport with what Silas wants for himself.

Re: The Hollow Man (66 replies, posted in Fantasy/Magic & Sci-Fi)
Silas is going to be recognized, and perhaps praised, for his berserking spree. Does he embrace it or fight it? Who praises him? Who fears him? Does the King approve, or does he treat Silas as a valuable, dangerous weapon? How does the King regard those red eyes?
