Welcome, Nasar.
Just uploaded the last draft. Awaiting final electronic proof. Release is scheduled for Wednesday. It's coming down off the site tonight.
Excellent points, Janet Reid. All writers are not the same. Thus, not all things work for all writers. Find your niche and what works for you. I, too, wear lots of hats. I have HAND written most of my novels while at the soccer field, a choir presentation, a football game, a track meet, etc. I NEVER hide out and isolate myself from the world around me. There is always noise at my house. So, I just go with the flow. I just took a short break from final edits to get on here. Had to have a breather.
Hey, Janet Reid! You're mentioned in it and have shameless pre-release marketing quip on the back!

Karin Rita Gastreich wrote:I'm with KHippolite. I've never had any patience with books that don't grab me from the get go, though I usually allow up to 3 chapters before deciding whether or not to toss the novel.
Even so, I do run into the occasionally novel that starts out well and then suddenly takes a dive half ways through, or (even worse for me) totally cops out at the end. Maybe you're just having a run of bad luck, or maybe you are becoming a more critical reader as a result of fine-tuning your "editor's eye" on tNBW. Either, I wouldn't worry about it. Time spent reading a bad novel is time wasted, imho. Life's too short for that. Hopefully, you'll find something you can sink into and enjoy again soon.
There is something to learn from reading bad novels, but I can't read it to "The End" no more, so I'll just pick up on the lessons I can get up to that stage.
And hey, reading 70-100 pages is proof that at least I have really tried to give them some chance!
What I can also add - it's nothing compared to the number of books I returned to the shelf after reading the first few pages - something I've never done before either. I used to base my reading decision on the back page blurb only. I'm turning into one of my nightmares ... a critic! LOL
We can learn how to make ours better!
LOL! We'll find it a niche b/c Amazon doesn't let you have that many categories.

Maybe it's that you're becoming aware of the shortcomings of many of today's authors. I can't stand "formula" writing, As much as I hate to say it, MANY romance authors write by formula. A + B = C. BORING. Therefore, it is up to us and the new wave of writers to give our readers something bigger and better.
I'm going to PM you a few books to read. If you don't like them, tell me I'm nuts.
Gotta keep pushing the books! Thanks, Graeme.
I do a quasi outline. I name my chapters. Yet, there I times I rearrange the order or add a chapter. Chapter names always have something to do with what happens in the chapter. When "outlining", I write the name & 2 or 3 sentences to tell what will happen in the chapter. Oh, and I hand write, then type.
ok. ty That's what I'm going with.
I write as the Muse guides. Sometimes I do have to rearrange once all is written down. In my Hillbilly Hijinx series, I have 4 stories about the same thing told from 4 different perspectives. Some of the scenes have to be similar b/c the happen to more than one person. Imagine keeping a timeline straight across 4 books!
Got a quick question. Is it outa or outta when you spell this as dialect/slang? Word recognizes 2 T's, but Word AIN'T always right.
I was a feature in this quarter's magazine. Here's a link where you can view the short article. But I do have an upcoming event at the local library on 11/19/15.
You spend too much time on the forums, Dirk! JK. I didn't know, so thanks.
I think the re-posting thing is now done by posting the chapter as a new version.
When you say search feature, do you mean in the forum for a topic? You can search for author or titles.
Thanks, guys.
Mountain Moonshine was submitted as a full novel. Your, story, Norm d'Plume, was submitted as a novel in progress. I was only allowed 7500 words for Ain't no Mountain.
That was the saddest and most infuriating thing. Maybe you should dedicate your book to him & other fallen law enforcement.
Mountain Moonshine & Gods and Children--Ain't no Mountain,
both semifinalists!

Very "timely." Congrats.
