Have you posted it yet? I had to get real good at trimming words for previous contests, so I may be able to spot a few things to tweak/remove.

Thanks Dirk. I have Sol's email but when I rejoined the site I sent him a note and he never replied. I haven't posted the story yet. I get that the simplest thing to do is to just find 11 words to cut. Sounds easy, right? But after cutting it from 520 words to 511, I stopped to wonder about leeway. I'll try emailing contact@.
Yep, cutting can be a bitch sometimes, but at least for this contest it doesn't have to be an exact word count as some are. One suggestion should you get down to a few words you just don't want to eliminate is to use hyphenated words which count as a single word. I've done that in the past. Even if it looks awkward or made-up, it is still within bounds as the automated word counter does not know the difference. All is fair in love and writing. Just a thought. Take care. Vern

It was up to Garland to bring charges against Trump, and he waited too late because he was so afraid of appearing political that his inaction became political malfeasance and left too little time after he appointed Smith to bring all the charges to trial with all the well-known and predictable delays by Trump and his suckophants. Democrats were too chicken shit to use the power they had before it was too late. Republicans used whatever means they could muster to include the nuclear option to get Trump's picks on the Supreme Court while the Democrats let them get away with it using the excuse that if the Democrats used their power, the Republicans would do the same thing when they knew full well the Republicans would not hesitate to use their power to the fullest regardless of so-called normal practices. And now the country is paying the price of one party's power grab and the other party's chicken shit defense. What I wonder at this point is, who do the Democrats have with enough name recognition and track record to run against whomever the Republicans try to push through? Newsome is too controversial, even for the centrist Dems and Harris has seen her star dim very quickly. Jeffries? I'd be okay with that, but I'm not sure he has the clout to get to the finish line first. Maybe Governor Shapiro of Pennsylvania? He'd have to work hard to get name recognition beyond the Northeast.

Just now poking my nose in but there is one person I would whole heartedly support. Not sure exactly how much national recognition he has but he is a former Republican representative from Florida, David Jolly. He appears on MSNBC regularly and most everything he says makes sense and it is an obvious plus that he left the Republican/Trump party. He is the only person at this point in time that I would encourage to run and feel no reluctance to support in any way possible. Wonder if anyone else is familiar with him. They are already beginning to complain, but the bad part is they took us down the rabbit hole with them. Now the diehards are not complaining yet, but they won't until their last dime goes to buy a tomato because the female president of Mexico is nobody's fool, and trump can't stand to be outdone by a woman. She has already said Mexico will stand by Panama if trump and his little boy Elon try to take it.

Since Canada is a member of NATO, we will have to stand back and see what the other members of NATO do if trump tries to take Canada. There will be bloodshed, but whether or not it will be on our home turf remains to be seen. We'll see how scared the other countries are of America's firepower, but if they band together, they will be a force to be reckoned with.

The limit is where your story ends and nowhere else. I don't agree with the time restraint argument since the more words the more points you receive for the review and if you can't do a review in one sitting, there is nothing to stop you from doing it in more than one sitting. This has been an ongoing debate since you were here before and I'm sure there are plenty who will disagree with my logic. Welcome back. Take care. Vern

Yes, it works when I copy and paste each chapter individually, but when you go to the publish page, there is a button at the bottom that says "download your ebook." That's what gives me the boxes and strange critters.

I wrote a story for the Mythical Creature contes back in 2021, but it is not listed in my portfolio or the short list of entries for the contest. It has also disappeared from my home computer. If someone could check the contest entries back then and see if they might have a longer list, I would appreciate it. The story was about a modern-day Medusa, but I do not remember the title but am fairly sure Medusa was not a part of the title.
