Topic: Strongest Start Competition 2015 is Launched

We are pleased to announce the launch of the 2015 Strongest Start Book Competition. The competition has over $1,000 in prizes in addition to the winner receiving an opportunity for their book to be reviewed by an Amazon Hall of Fame Reviewer, when it is finally published.

The launch of the contest coincides with the release of our new contest platform. We can now create contests for any group and in the future will allow groups to create, release, and market their own contests.


Entering is a big different from the old site. To enter, there is now a new tab when you publish work called Contests. That tab allows you to enter your book into the contest. If it says you are not eligible, then you either do not have your work posted to Premium, or the work was posted too long ago and you need to repost.

Hi,

I'm just enquiring about the competition, are the works of writers from the uk eligible?  I've tried to enter my story but the enter competition button doesn't come up on the drop down menu beside the story I want to enter. And help would be appreciated if it's simple something I'm doing wrong.

Hi Michael,

UK entries are eligible.

Did you to the Contest tab for the particular entry? Go to Profile, click on the title of the work, then go to the Contest sub-tab. As long as the contest has bee published to the Premium group, you should be able to enter. Let me know if you are still having problems.

Hi Sol,

I'm still having problems, I've clicked on my portfolio and the work I want to enter has been published to the premium group. But the only options I get are: edit, delete, view, invite and publish settings. When I click on the drop down menu at the right hand corner, and click on contests it says I have no work entered. I still can't work out what am doing wrong.

Sol, my first 3 chapters are labeled "0,1,2".  Is that okay, or should I relabel them "1,2,3"?

I posted a "chapter 0" when I began work shopping Daughter of Aithne, because technically the first chapter is a prologue, though I would like to have it count as chapter 1 for purposes of the competition. I just am not sure if the Chapter 0 tag will cause problems when filtering entries for the judges to read.

Thanks in advance for your help. I'm very excited for this year's competition, and I'm looking forward to seeing everyone's entries.

This won't cause a problem. The judges are going to take the first three chapters. So, if the first starts at 0, that's the first.

Okay, I'm lost. It says I don't have any content eligible. So I assume since it's old work, I need to republish...how the heck do you do that because I tried and it just ain't working.

There is no republish on the new site. You will need to create a fresh listing for the contest. You might be able to create a new version under the same book but I'm not sure if that would work. I'll have to check.

Hello, Sol, I've tried to enter The Silver Mist in the Strongest Start Competition 2015, but it keeps tellng me the publishing date is too old. I deleted the previous chapters and published the three new ones a a new book or at least attempted. It told me it cost 25.97 points which I have to spare and clicked publish but it still shows the old publish date when I click to enter the contest. What else do I need to do? Would it help to simply change the title? Does it still consider it when the older one was deleted first. Thanks. Take care. Vern

I clicked the box for TheNextBigWriter Premium to post on three different occasions. Why else would it tell me the cost of points? I'll try again, but what else can I do?

I have a story that I'm co-writing with a friend of mine and we would like to enter the competition. I was wondering if we can submit our story and if yes, is it enough if I submit it and state that it is written by the both of us or do we have to do anything else?

I got the identical review from alayton. I don't begrudge someone trying to earn enough points to enter the contest, but perhaps a note from you regarding cutting and pasting reviews won't fly around here.
