Topic: Dayton Tornado

For those of you who might have heard of the EF3 tornado that hit Dayton, Ohio last night: I am fine. The house looks windblown and lots of tree damage, but nothing drastic. Across town (half mile away) several roofs were torn off and power lines were downed, roads blocked, and stuff like that. Celina, Ohio is where the other one struck. Ours hit mostly west part of Dayton -- we live in the east near Wright Patterson AFB.

At the moment, I am in Boulder, Colorado cat sitting for my daughter who is away on a trip.

Re: Dayton Tornado

Good to hear you're okay. Keeping all tornado victims in my thoughts and prayers.

Re: Dayton Tornado

Thanks, Bobbie. Much appreciated.

Re: Dayton Tornado

Glad you're okay, Bill!

Re: Dayton Tornado

That sounds scary Bill. We don't watch TV so I missed out on it. Glad you're fine. How is the cat-watching becoming to you?

Re: Dayton Tornado

Glad you're ok, Bill. I spent some time in Dayton, so I can relate.

Re: Dayton Tornado

I live in Kettering, and didn't even get any rain. I could hear the tornadoes, though. They sounded like continuous rolling thunder from where I was.

Re: Dayton Tornado

Wife was without power for quite some time. My UPS kept routers, etc up for a while, then I told her to power it down until electricity came back on.

Re: Dayton Tornado

So glad you're safe, Bill.  Weather that's so unpredictable this time of year is nightmarish to say the least.  We've narrowly missed a few tornados and hurricanes the last couple of years, and to me, there's nothing any more frightening than the force of Mother Nature.  She can be a bitch sometimes.

I smiled when you said you were cat-sitting!  Good for you!

Re: Dayton Tornado

Thanks, MJ. Cats are my favorite animal. One of the ones I'm sitting likes to jump on the kitchen counter. I'm trying to dissuade him, but he's an old cat and you can't change attitudes at that age. The weather here is strange as well. I'm in Boulder, CO at our other house. Yesterday, we went from bright sunshine, to cloudy, to a burst of rain, to marble-sized hail, to thunderstorm, to drizzle, to bright sunshine in about an hour. Crazy for sure.

Re: Dayton Tornado

Glad you're all right, Bill. Are you having crazy weather in Colorado, too, or are you talking about Dayton?

We arrived at Wright-Patt just after the big tornado that demolished Xenia. In the years we lived there, we had several scares, but no big damage. Get home soon and take care of your wife!  JP

Re: Dayton Tornado

Hi, JP. You got to WPAFB just the same time we arrived in Beavercreek for me to take a job. How about that?

The rain/hail/rain sequence was here in Boulder. The last couple of weeks has seem some really out-of-normal weather almost everywhere. I'm here to cat-sit for my daugthter while she's visiting Ireland for two weeks.

Re: Dayton Tornado

Glad  you're safe, Bill.
Living in Texas, tornados are a constant threat. We've already had 143 this year statewide. Luckily, our little area has missed them. They've only gotten as close at about 30 miles away. Hope our luck holds out!
Wishing you a safe trip back home.

Re: Dayton Tornado

Thanks, Ann. My daughter lives just south of Fort Worth and they've had some close calls as well. This set of twisters was just a little close to home for my liking. The Mall is about four blocks east of us and it was closed for the last four days without power and water service. It just opened up this morning.

I'll head home in about 12 more days or so. Hope the weather holds. It's been beautiful here in the Front Range.

Re: Dayton Tornado

I'm confused.
How is it that a resident of Dayton, Ohio is caring for a cat from Fort Worth, Texas in Boulder, Colorado? The cat needed a vacation?  JP

Re: Dayton Tornado

The secret is: I have two daughters. One in Boulder (where I am currently cat-sitting while she is in Ireland) and another south of Ft. Worth, who has had lots of tornado activity lately.
