Topic: New member? Introduce yourself!

Hi all

Unless we actively go and look to see if any new members have joined Romance Inc., we would have no idea who and when new members join. So please use this thread to let us know that you have joined the group, and if you want to, please tell us more about yourself, what you're up to, your interests and what you're writing at the moment!

Happy writing to all!

Waving back to standing ovation!  Hi.  I'm Mike. I don't write straight romance, but I include romance in my writing. I'm a retired detective, retired engineering professional.  I review mainly for story, missed words, overused words, and such. Punctuation rules elude me. My book Hunter is complete and still posted.  It is a compilation of Action, love story, police procedural, Christia lifestyle.  I would enjoy anyone reading and commenting.

Re: New member? Introduce yourself!

Thanks for joining Mike! My arm was getting tired from all the waving, Tom still looks good though (thanks Tom!)! LOL

And by all means, if you have any questions, you know where we are - feel free to start a new topic!

As a side-note, you and anyone else are more than welcome to start a thread for your writing or books, but I'm not really pushing this aspect of the group as most of us already have similar threads going in other groups and having it in multiple groups make it really complicated. So all up to you.

Mike, I've just finished my latest chapter. You're my target for this week. Good luck! smile

Re: New member? Introduce yourself!

HI everyone! I just joined. I'm an undergrad student, always been interested in writing. I'm currently attempting to write a novel right now, mostly a romance. Planning a novel is pretty difficult so I thought I'd find somewhere where I can talk to other writers so here I am!

Re: New member? Introduce yourself!

Glad to have you join us, Saina! This is a great place to start because we can learn a lot from others mistakes. Begin posting, review others works, and participate in the discussions.

Hi Saina, welcome to the group! I hope you find it useful and I'll also be looking out for your first chapter.

In terms of writing advice and tips, there is a separate group for that, and it might be best to ask general questions there. That said, you're more than welcome to post it here as well - if we can, we'll help! Anything romance related, this is the place. And by all means, anyone is welcome to start threads, so ask away and post topics. Don't hold back! smile

All the best with your writing! Joining this site was definitely a good decision - I've been around for just over a year, and I can tell you, the growth I have experienced has been phenomenal. Not to mention making a lot of friends too.

Re: New member? Introduce yourself!

Hi!*waving back*
I joined a couple of months ago but never really noticed the forums before, so never introduced myself!
I'm writing a novel about a young girl who's figuring out life, and romance is definitely a theme running through the story!
I've learned so much from the kind people who have reviewed me already, and am already learning a lot more from looking through these forums!

Hi Suin

Thank you for the post, my arm was getting tired! LOL

And here's a belated welcome to the group! If you have any questions about romance, feel free to start a post in the forum, it's open to all.
I'll see if I can't get to your story soon - I'm always catching up on reviews, but try to support Romance members too.
And absolutely, joining TNBW made a huge difference in my writing, and only for the best.

Glad to have you around!
Janet

Re: New member? Introduce yourself!

Hi everyone.  I am new here, but not to writing.  I'm looking forward to sharing my works and reading all of yours.

Re: New member? Introduce yourself!

Welcome, RM, and I just marked you to read. Thanks for hitting Dyed Rosebuds.

Re: New member? Introduce yourself!

Welcome to the site and the Romance Group RM! If you have any questions, post away, and we'll try to help where we can. You are also more than welcome to post topics to the Romance Group forum.

Best tip I can give you - start to review others. The site is mostly reciprocal (+- hours to weeks), so the more you review, the more you will be reviewed. The added benefit is you will also start to establish reviewing partnerships which will make your experience so much more worth your while.

Happy writing! Janet

Re: New member? Introduce yourself!

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone.  I am looking forward to reading what everyone has to offer.

Welcome RM!

Re: New member? Introduce yourself!

Hi, I'm new to the group. I am currently writing a series of romance novellas that I intend self-publishing. Can anyone tell me how to make the most of being in this group. Writing is a long lonely journey and sharing that journey with like minded writers would be fantastic.

Post your chapters to Premium. Yes, it takes points, but you'll get more feedback. Be sure to reciprocate reviews. Read others, and not just in your genre. Do join the Romance, Inc. group too. (I think that's it.) Participate in discussions. Ask for feedback if your aren't getting anything, but the best way to get reviews is to review. People are good about reciprocating. Suggested folks to read (Well me of course. smile), Janet Reid, Rebecca Vaughn, and any romance person you choose. Be prepared to get constructive criticism. If someone hurts your feelings, don't get upset. I was told no one would read my stuff with my current writing style. The same story that was said about was a semifinalist at the Faulkner Competition and is now in print and receiving 4 & 5 star reviews. Stay true to yourself, but if you get half a dozen folks telling you something is off, take it seriously. Be willing to bend and make changes. Hope this helps. WELCOME TO A GREAT GROUP & SITE.

Hi S!

Janet TP pretty much covered it! This site works on a (informal, but very much serious and in place) reciprocate review system. Most writers you review will return the favour. Some won't, and it all depends on you whether you still want to review their work if you want to. As Janet said, you may not always find a lot of Romance going around, so you will need to read/review outside of your preferred genre. It's not a bad thing at all though. I've had really good comments/suggestions from people that don't read Romance and have learned a lot from them too.

Also, you're more than welcome to ask any question in the forum. We're the best group to get feedback on Romance related topics, but won't be the widest exposure out here. For example, there's a specific group for writing tips and advice. The Premium Forum is by far the largest, but things can get personal sometimes - we're an opinionated bunch. Depending on whether you don't mind or would want to avoid that, that's also a good place to get varying opinions and responses.

Welcome to the Romance group! If you have any specific questions, let us know!

Cheers Janet

Re: New member? Introduce yourself!

Thank you both for coming back to me. I will follow your suggestions and see what happens (gulp!). I think I need to read around and see what others are doing too but so far this looks like a really vibrant community. I recently joined one where the sound of crickets was drowned out by the howling wind of loneliness.

I am looking forward to getting involved!

That is a really good idea - you also learn from checking the reviews done by others.

*kicks out crickets and close the door*
*coughs*
And says rather loudly: Yeah, we're very noisy and vibrant.*

*disclaimer - at times it does get quiet, but we're easy to bait out in the open!

I hope you'll be happy around here! smile

Re: New member? Introduce yourself!

Thank you for the welcoming responses

I have been snooping around and it does indeed look quite vibrant. I shall have a read of other peoples work and do some reviews first.

I have set myself a fairly huge task at the moment which is to edit the series of novellas I have written so that they can be go to an editor ...or my other half as I call him. So that they are ready for release by the end of March (gulp!) I am lucky to have an editor that is only costing me my sanity and relationship rather than actual money smile

What is everyone else working on?

Re: New member? Introduce yourself!

Hi all!  I was an active member several years ago, but for many reasons moved to different forms of critique.  Now I'm back and excited to start getting to know everyone again.

I write romance in various genres.  My two self-published books are contemporary romance and romantic fantasy, and my current WIP is a romantic comedy.  I'll start posting in a week or two, once I've had time to get re-acclimated to the site and get some reading/reviewing done.
