I'm Mark Lynn Ferguson, and if you know me at all, it's from my blog The Revivalist: Word from the Appalachian South, where I write about everything from Dukes of Hazzard reunions to the region's soaring pot industry. I'm also trying my damndest to carve a path into literary nonfiction. The thicket of rejection letters is daunting, but I'm forging ahead with a story collection. It begins in the rusting, Appalachian suburb where my brother and I were raised. He stayed lifelong, brawling and tending bar. I left, dazzled by cityscapes and the ivy-league. The book will chronicle our early lives, as we become men in starkly different worlds. When I'm not swigging whiskey in a crippling hunch over the keyboard, I'm at the job that pays me. I build marketing partnerships for the American Red Cross.
