Teacher, kitchen salesman (failed), tarmac layer and construction worker, I am a keen rugby fan and played county rugby at school and senior level, being an active player until 1995. I love travel and have visited much of Europe, including the former Soviet Russia. Journeying in North Africa, I travelled through Morocco, Algeria and Niger, twice crossing the Sahara Desert by Land Rover. When attending university in California, I spent time travelling and camping in Mexico. At home, my time is also taken up by writing and the renovation of a smallholding, where I enjoy spending time with my family and a ‘menagerie’ of horses, cats, chickens and Molly the dog.
