Born on a stormy winter’s night, raised on country sunshine and salt air I am not a city dweller. I grew up in the small costal town of Bay Center, Washington, where my imagination and my desire to read and read developed into a desire to create. My mother read to me at bedtime and I loved Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves. Great adventure! I composed my first real story when I was about sixteen. Stuck at home with the chicken pox I wrote an adventure about sled dogs and Alaska and sent to my neighbor who also had the chicken pox. There were poems I wrote as a teen and read to grammie who gave positive support, journalism articles in high school, English assignments in college and creative writing classes. My first published article was about the Medici Motel. It was situated on a farm with cows and even a peacock. It appeared in the travel section of a local newspaper. The best part was I got paid $50.00! I was thrilled. I had the opportunity to write more but being a single mom with eight children I felt overwhelmed. I’ve had some editorials and an opinion piece published as well. My latest accomplishment was to win a Thanksgiving short fiction contest using a variety of odd words. It was great fun and I won another fifty bucks. I have been a Book Reviewer for Armchair Interviewers for the post two years and have thirty reviews posted on their site Today I am the grandmother of two, Alyssa six months and Jacob just too weeks. This is totally awesome…. I’ve been looking for a writers group like the one I started in Greeley, Colorado, but my town is very small and so that is how I found The Next Big Writer!
