Although born in Cape Town, South Africa, I grew up post-war Liverpool, England. My parents immigrated again to South Africa when I was fourteen. I graduated High School after which I studied civil and structural engineering. Having worked in mining, and on construction projects in South Africa, Angola, and Namibia, I entered the world of show business in the nineteen seventies. For a number of years under the stage name Lorne Shields, I enjoyed international success as a recording artiste/musician/entertainer.
Following a lucrative musical tour to the United States, I was commissioned to write a series of articles for the South African Country Music Association magazine. The series invoked positive responses from several music-publishing houses in Johannesburg.
Later, in England, I interviewed, and wrote articles on several high profile British Pop stars, prior to their visits to South Africa, for the Cape Town City News, back in South Africa.
For the past fifteen years, I have been living in rural Ireland.
