Profile Information

I cut my teeth as a writer at the university of arizona then served in Peace Corps Gabon, Africa, which made me as a man and one who had something to say given the rigors and adventures of life in the bellybutton of the country and almost splat on the equator. Along with village men I built a primary school complex in an equatorial village surrounded by rainforest then got a novel out of it entitled Water Drumming in the Soul: A Novel of Racy Love in the Heart of Africa. I worked notably after Peace Corps success as a copywritter in a Chicago suburb where I hail then in Tokyo for then world's largest ad agency Dentsu, helping create worldwide campaigns for the likes of behemoth Japanese companies such as Canon, Konica, Subaru, Mazda, Nikko Hotels International and finally Sony (Sony No Baloney!). Then I travelled far and wide and covering striking features of several Asian countries and cultures for All Nippon Airways inflight magazine Wingspan with a readership then of 350,000 a month. I earned my BA in journalism from the University of Arizona and MFA in Creative Writing and Literature from SDSU. Please see my URL for my five books up there: www.ericmadeen.com. I have been working as an associate professor of English and Hemingway, Conrad, Updike, Theroux are some of the authors I've taught over the years but also have a love of Diane Johnson, Joyce Carol Oats, Toni Morrison and Sylvia Pllath. Finally, I am an award-winning unclassifiable author of six books with an executive suite of publications in Time and Asia Week, Kyoto Journal to Tokyo Journal, Daily Yomiuri to The Tombstone Epitaph, Peace Corps Worldwide to Metropolis and so on.
