I'm currently a sophomore at a becoming-prestigious university in Michigan, studying English, German and Japanese (the official name of my degree is English/Modern Language). I'm hoping to study abroad at some point and I'm probably one of the few students looking forward to writing my honors thesis paper. What a total dork.
As for writing and reading, I'm a hardcore sci-fi/fantasy girl. Pirates, vampires, assassins, and elves get bonus points, though it's so hard to find good vampire novels these days (yes, I am making a not well-hidden jab at a current plague of so-called writing that shall be left unnamed for posterity's sake.). I generally stay then in the realm of sci-fi/fantasy though I have been known to dabble and, length-wise, my work falls either under flash fiction or novel/novella. Currently, I'm working on a novel that has been almost two years in the making, and I have the beginnings of several others. Style-wise, I was once given the compliment of "Kafka-esqu" though I think my writing is far less in need of translation (but what classic figure doesn't need to be dumbed down by a scholar for a high-school student?). I like to think of myself as a dark romantic, like Poe-- but not quite so long-winded. As for reading, my favorite authors currently are: Anne Rice, Christopher Isherwood, Cornelia Funke, Chuck Palahniuk, and Richard Matheson (Christopher Rice is quickly making his way onto the list as well.).
I'm an appreciator of art and music-- though I cannot add much to the creation of either. My tastes range all over from Dead Can Dance to Flogging Molly, and I've even extended my tastes past their previous definition of "everything except country and rap" (still not a big fan of wailing about trucks, girls and dogs).
Other likes include: modge-podge, the artificial taste of exotic fruit (I've never actually had a pomegranate, but real mangoes are good.), all things foreign, exotic, and or non-Americana, RPG (didn't see that one coming..), and fashion (which is a new thing for me.. friends from high school would gawk at the news).
