Topic: Spam Reviews

Hi, I’ve been on this site for a couple of years now but haven’t posted in the forums yet. Where can I report or stop getting spam reviews like this:
“ This book has a compelling story line and was actually hard to put down.
You can join to a writing competition this April on @novelstar.top or joye@novelstar.top”
I’ve never had any before, but got three of these in the last month. It’s so annoying when I get excited thinking someone has reviewed my work, but then it turns out to be this junk.
Thanks!

Re: Spam Reviews

I've received quite a few of these as well. I think Sol is aware of it as my bogus reviews have already disappeared.

Re: Spam Reviews

Thanks Dirk. Glad it’s not just me attracting spam!

Re: Spam Reviews

I received a similar one last week.

Re: Spam Reviews

I've received them too. I just ignored them, like I do spam elsewhere, except when I'm in the Monty Python group on FB. "Spam, spam, spam, spam, wonderful spam!"

Re: Spam Reviews

Haha @RachelParsons

Re: Spam Reviews

Part of the reason premium members pay a subscription is to keep the site productive, with good writers and active reviewing, isn’t it? I think that’s worth a bit of policing to remove spammers if possible.

Re: Spam Reviews

Let us know the members who are giving you those reviews and we'll remove them and their reviews. It's hard to police the entire site on our own.

Thanks,
Sol

Re: Spam Reviews

Thanks Sol, I will. What’s the best way? Email you or post here or what?

Re: Spam Reviews

You can post them here. Thanks!

Re: Spam Reviews

A user name Vela left me a review on my Uniqorn short story advertising novelstar.

Re: Spam Reviews

aha she's at it right now. 2 in the last 30s. Oops, maybe needs a captcha

Re: Spam Reviews

Yeah, says on her profile page that her account is closed but reviews are spreading like the mutant corona viruses.

Re: Spam Reviews

Novelstar is the supreme spammer of the writing world. What a low class operation. They have been spamming sites across the Internet. I need to think of a way of stopping them. I emailed the company and lodged a complaint but they have clearly ignored it.

Re: Spam Reviews

Three more for me tonight! I am a spam magnet!  Not, unfortunately, a spam magnate. Just a spam magnet.

You aren't the only one. Same novelstar asswipe but this time using member name Chira. I blocked him AGAIN and deleted the spam. This is getting old but there's not much way to stop this sort of thing, apparently. The site could start requiring all reviews to be approved by admin before posting but that would bottleneck the hell out of everything, so that's no good.

Such is life, I suppose....

Re: Spam Reviews

Just received a spam review from Chira urging me to publish through novelstar.

Re: Spam Reviews

Bernn is apparently another one. Do we have an established mechanism for bringing examples like these to the attention of the site managers? If not, we probably should.

Re: Spam Reviews

I got one from "Unknown" - sam thing, novelstar.

Re: Spam Reviews

Just got hit by "Chira" this morning.

Sol: do any of the IP addresses have any octet in common?

Re: Spam Reviews

Mitch is apparently another one. I got an email notification of a new inline review by this person, but when I looked at the listing of reviews received on my home page it wasn't there. Another twist on this saga?

I received one from Mitch today as well. He's another of the Novel Star spammers.

Re: Spam Reviews

Yep I'm getting them.
