Topic: Old new guy

I haven't written in years, I am not that good at it...
I spent some time on here many moons ago, and became very aware of my shortcomings... They have not likely improved with merely the passage of time and little effort.
Yet, I have a story to tell, I have never abandoned it and they have yet to abandon me.

I used to dream of being a great writer, I know now that will never be,yet the characters refuse to be silent and die stillborn. They do not believe that my lack of talent or skill is sufficient reason for them to face the void.

I no longer dream of being a great writer, it is probably beyond me, but I still wish to tell the story and to allow my imaginary friends at least a bit more life and light, to linger on the page and in the imaginations of readers if just briefly and incompletely.

So if you can forgive my faults Allen, Kaltar and Talon would like to meet you, as would many other characters who do not yet have names or story lines, but who very much exist in backstory and background but have yet to make it to the page.

Howdy
Brad.

I think I can. I think I can. I think I can. :-)

Welcome back.

Re: Old new guy

Don't think you're not talented. Leave that to the readers. You, you writer hard and publish!

Welcome back!

Re: Old new guy

Well, I do hope to improve...  because I enjoy it, not because I think I will become a rising star. Who knows though? I have many years left.

Re: Old new guy

Doesn't matter if you're good, great or indifferent. Amazon has made self-publishing easy. You have a story in you, tell it. Then self-publish it, market it yourself on Amazon and Facebook, and you will have a readership. Go for it. It's never been easier to follow your dreams.

Re: Old new guy

Shortcomings, indeed! Thanks for coming out about it, Brad. I have a similar, but completely opposite problem, I think. Whereas I think I'm a pretty good "writer" but can't for the life of me "tell" a compelling or coherent story. Six of one and apples and oranges, I guess. All you can do is write hard, and be diehard, as you inevitably fail (and fail again) only to hopefully fall assbackwards unto success someday. The mere fact that you're self aware and trying hard is more than most narrative artists can say, I say.

Cheers
John

Re: Old new guy

Talent is overrated, persistence underrated. So hang in!

Re: Old new guy

Writing is all in the eyes of the reader. For each of us there is a time and a market for the eyes which behold the talent before them. Take care. Vern
