I use Word (or OE Writer) so when I read, and comment, an in-line review I have my copy open in another window. As I agree with a nit, I make the change. That way, I'm always up to date and can grab a chapter if I wish and post it immediately.

I do the same.  It helps to speed up minor revisions.  For longer edits, I usually cut/paste feedback comments directly into my Word document so I have it readily at hand.  I just mark it in a different color.  As I have time, I go back and review these comments and start making changes.  May not work for everyone, but it does for me.

I've asked that either reviews, works/chapters, or subscribers be given something like a forum space.  Here's a situation that shows why: I've been reviewing a story by Randall Krzak.  Our discusion in reviews has been carried out by adding additional reviews.  Normally I suggest that an author open a forum for his work in a group he and I share.  But Randall and I share only the Premium group--that is, the Everything/Everybody group.  This doesn't seem to be the best place to open a discussion centered on one author or one work.

Why not join one R. Krzak's groups?  Well, I began to review his story not out of shared topic interest but because he has an interesting story and he seems to be working on skills that I'm still working on, so I hope to help and learn at the same time.  This seems a sound basis for reviewing, and for having a forum.

Hi NJC, I know you're not a big fan of connections but for one on one discussions it seems to work fine.  I use it for a couple different writers I'm reviewing. However, it does mean that others don't see what is said.  Always a trade-off. By the way, thanks for saying you think I have an interesting story.  Agree that I'm working on a number of skills as I'm totally new to fiction.  You've been a big help thus far - thanks!

Re: Wishlist Cont.

Connections clutter the writer's home page.  Allowing the user to shut this off would help, though connections are still based on the writer rather than on the work.  And, as Randall notes, this creates a closed discussion rather than an open one.

Why don't you start your own group (njc's feedback or whatever) and everyone you review can join at your invitation and create their own thread for their work with all the comments back and forth you could wish for. Everyone can subscribe to whatever thread they want and get alerts and if there are any problems, well, at least you know who to call. Good luck. Take care. Vern

Re: Wishlist Cont.

Group subscriptions are a limited resource.  It wouldn't and shouldn't be -mine-.  And many people already have threads in existing groups.  (I suppose this argues for multiple-appearance threads.)

Isn't everything a limited resource? Not sure why people having other threads should make any difference; if it would stop them from having one in your group why wouldn't it stop them from having one in any other forum? One person's solution is another's puzzle I suppose.  I guess since nothing else works for you, you'll just have to hope Sol has a change of heart. Good luck. Take care. Vern

I think you are overcomplicating this a bit. Create a new group (you only belong to four yourself) or add some  threads to an existing group. There is an existing group called Additional Writing Feedback. Do it there. If this means that much to all those involved, I'm sure you'll find a way to join the group. Most of the groups appear inactive anyway so it's not like you'll be missing a ton if someone has to drop one to join the feedback group.

Re: Wishlist Cont.

On the print-the-review printable pages, could we have the closing comments (and reply) included, to make the print complete?

Re: Wishlist Cont.

Is there a reason that word counts aren't shown for works?  A word processor will give a word count on request.  Why shouldn't the author see a word count on the edit page?

Re: Wishlist Cont.

Sol & njc--In an attempt to quote and respond to a post by njc, I think I clicked report instead. Please ignore.

Re: Wishlist Cont.

Could we have the positive things (edit and quote) on one side and the negative things (delete and report) on the other?

Re: Wishlist Cont.

In an inline review, the 'return to posting' link takes you to the first chapter of the work.  It might be helpful to return to the chapter of the review.

Re: Wishlist Cont.

The advanced search capability is a wonderful way to find old posts. Would it be possible to move it to a more obvious location, like the home page? Also, it would help if there was a checkbox to search "my groups" without having to scroll through that very long list of groups and check each one individually. Ideally, the list of groups should be in alphabetical order, otherwise it's like finding a needle in a haystack. Finally, groups hidden from me shouldn't show up in the list at all, although that's not as big a deal if the other enhancements above are implemented.

Thanks,
Dirk
