I was thinking missy eyelashes was faking fainting. She had hidden the smoking gun she used to kill chinese shirt dude and was picking up his when our heros burst into her apartment and took dead guy's cold weapon. While our cop buddies were chasing unknown gun-woman Dick on the rooftop, missy beauty contest whacked miss betty with the same gun that caused shirt guy's end. Other gunner could be mrs dick, but I'm going with chinese drug cartel that ran their ops from the take away joint.

Janet Reid! Hey, we're twins now!!!! I knew you were a soul sista! And both of us are redheads. I guess I'll now exit stage right to my life where I spend my days trying to uplift people and find myself rewarded on multiple levels.
And it explains why we could be mistaken for each other too!

Ledbetter didn't like stairs, but he loved beautiful women enough that the sprint back to the lobby and up eight flights of stairs seemed like taking his dog for a quick stroll on a sunshiny day. He barged into 806 with only the safety of their mystery chick on his mind. She was still out cold. He checked her pulse to be certain and let out a breath when he felt the slight pressure of a thumping pulse against the skin of his index finger.
He straightened. Just to be thorough, he decided to check on Miss Kitty Betty in 809.
Christmas got much worse then. And Christmas or not, he cursed. Vividly.
The old lady was sprawled dead-cold, her needlepoint pillows a crimson blotted mess. The absence of a pulse confirmed his suspicion.
He shook his head. Between Wilson, who was with one of the shooters, and himself with another shooter on the 8th floor, they needed backup. And lots of it. He wasn't going to run up and down fucking stairs all night while the body count piled up.
But first ...
As anger heated the blood rushing through his veins and raised his heart beat another notch or two closer to a heart attack, he edged silently from Miss Betty's apartment, his knuckles white where he gripped his gun. Sleeping Beauty was still out cold when he passed her open door. Slowly, carefully, he turned the knob just below the set of golden letters that indicated he was back at apartment 810.
A proper look wouldn't be a waste of time.

Yes, you can comment on it again, Janet. But say you made a comment on a word in a specific sentence or paragraph, and then want to add a comment on the whole sentence or entire paragraph, you won't be able to select the sentence/paragraph because you can't select the word you've made a separate comment on again. Hope this make sense!

Agree with you vern all the way, but I'm referring to selecting say a word to comment, and then trying to select a larger section that now contain that word+comment. Won't let you do it, but I haven't done an in-line review for a while so it could have changed.

I've also had a similar problem where I could work fine on my iPhone but not my desktop. It turned out to be an issue with chrome on my desktop. If you have IE, double check as that confirmed it had been a chrome issue. Only solution I had after playing with my chrome settings was to uninstall and re-install chrome again and it was sorted. I still love chrome though!

Oh, that I don't think can be done - selecting a word or section "twice", but Sol will be the best person to confirm whether it's a site or chrome thing. JR

Re: Site Bugs 2 (342 replies, posted in TheNextBigWriter Premium)
Hi Sol! When trying to "publish and review" or "publish and post" my chapters the buttons for said choices don't seem to be working. I'm using Google Chrome. The content transfers over from my clipboard quite nicely but doesn't want to save to the site. Is this a glitch?
Also, like Norm above I have a hard time just selecting one word for inline reviews. I have this problem with both my laptop, desktop and surface. Very frustrating.
My work around is to not select the whole word, but only the "middle" part. It then highlights the complete word automatically and works in general but obviously will still be a problem for 1-letter and 2-letter words. I use windows and google chrome.

I agree the off topic posts should be deleted from the original Site Bugs 2 thread and have deleted mine. Ladies and gentlemen start your engines, the track has been cleared of foreign debris. Take care. Vern
Edited to delete remark about not being able to use the "quote" box on the copied/pasted version; seems now you can. How did you do that?
"Start your engines" made me laugh!
If I understand the question correctly, and forgive us for going off topic , I had both threads open on separate tags. On the original thread, I selected the "Quote" option as if I was going to reply, CTRL-A (select all) then CTRL-C (copy). In the comment box on the new thread, CTRL-V (paste). If this is not what you've meant, you'd have to ask again using smaller words. If you could slow your typing speed, that would be even better!

Re: Site Bugs 2 (342 replies, posted in TheNextBigWriter Premium)
Sol, I seem to have lost a review. I reviewed a very short piece called Perplexing Pyramids from Derek Atkins that didn't require any inline comments nor even fifty words for a regular review. I went inline, left no inline comments, and just put a closing comment at the bottom, knowing that I wouldn't receive any points, which was fine. The system allowed me to submit this without apparent error, yet when I look for it my completed inline reviews, it's not there. Is it in the ether?
Win 7 PC & Google Chrome.
Thanks.
Dirk
Dirk,
You might have tried this already, but if not, it could be the problem.
If you go to your "review" page, select the "in-line posted" tab, see if it isn't there as a draft. If it is, then "view" it again and make sure you select the "Submit In-Line Review".
This is one of the changes that Sol and the team made to in-line reviews - you can save it as a draft to work on it over time or you can submit it immediately. If you don't see it at all, then it's a Sol problem!
Cheers Janet

Oh, now isn't this a hoot. Miss Betty isn't dying and bleeding on the floor! I love this flip/ turnaround in the plot where nothing is what it seems! (I couldn't do this by myself if I tried, BTW. Don't know about you ladies, but I'm coming up with a lot of new rules on how to write a riveting plotline here.)
Ditto, this is the most fun I've recently had with clothes on!
Anyhow, I agree amy, this does open your mind to other ways of flipping things around just as the readers think they know what's happening! Although I doubt you would do it five times in each chapter like we are doing!
Hope someone else also joins in, but until then, give us your best shot! (pun intended)

Topic: If you could ... (10 replies, posted in Romance Inc.)
Hey everyone!
If you could give a new aspiring romance writer some advice, what would be your number one "rule"?
Mine is:
Establish the male and female protagonists as soon as possible.
The reasoning behind this is you don't want romance readers wondering who's meant to have the happy ever after and to get the reader as soon as possible on their side to get together.

Re: Site bugs 2 - the derailed version (28 replies, posted in TheNextBigWriter Premium)
Why, Hi, other Janet. Good evening. So happy you asked. Let me clear that up for you. I am here to critique and have my work critiqued. I've been here not quite two months and I have ten chapters posted. I have done 35 reviews in that time, all in line reviews, and thorough to the best of my ability. Now, tell me, Janet—and asking with my best judgment and sincerest interest—would you say your efforts in the last two months as far as posting your work here and doing reviews is any match to that? Because, unless I am mistaken, it looks like to me you have posted, well, nothing in the last, well, four months? But I have noticed you've been quite active on the forums.
I sometimes also participate in Forum discussions. These generally go pretty well until either some know-it-all steps into the middle of the discussions and throws the thread off kilter, or when some mysoginist (who might have the initials CB) decides to vent his hate. I am not a troll. I simply don't like mother hens in the Forum. So, here's what you can take to the bank, Ms. Reid. Next time you feel the need to get bossy with me on the Forums, don't. And I promise you that you will NEVER have to deal with me again. However, should you feel compelled to do that again, you can rest assured I will take a break from my busy writing and critiquing to set you on the right path. Is that clear enough for you?
I have a suggestion for you. How about you back out of my grille and go back to posting on topic, or whatever it is that you do and we just end this here before you embarrass yourself further.
Cheers yourself.
Hi Temple
Ten chapters in less than 2 months is a good indication that your writing is clicking at a good pace and 35 reviews are pretty decent too, in all seriousness, even though I don't really keep score as I'm of the opinion everyone is doing their best, and that is good enough for me. And absolutely, we can only try our best to give good reviews and can only hope it's helpful. A pretty daunting task for anyone like me that view themselves as aspiring writers. Especially when you review the work of a published author!
Well, sorry to say, but I think you're mistaken with regards to me not having posted anything for the last 4 months. I think it's probably been longer than that! Do you think I should contribute/participate less in the forums and instead write? Well, to be honest, I don't really think I spend too much time in the forums though, but then again, every bit helps. So you have given me something to think about.
Do you know what? I think I just found some common ground with you and understand where you are coming from. There are two things I really don't like. Motherly hens and people that kick puppies. When I come across them, I get so mad it feels like someone had put a cracker where Max puts corn, and had lit the fuse. Sometimes people leave comments and then they end it with "Puh-lease, get over it and move on people, nothing to see here." This is after they repeated about half of the opinions, but just in different words! As if they own the thread, pft! I even had someone that left a comment when I said something in good will to the effect that they "slapped me on my hand or wrist" because my comment deserved it. Honestly, those were their exact words! Now, tell me if I'm mistaken here, but that is as motherly as it get, isn't it?!
I like your style more. Setting someone on the right path is way over there with advice your big brother or big sister would be dishing out. So not something a mother hen would do! But then again, big brothers and sisters can sometimes be really bossy! Not saying you are, of course, since we're on the same side.
I haven't met any misogynists on the site though, but then again, maybe I should frequent the forums more. But in any case, I think we're back on topic in this thread, so at least that problem is fixed.
Kind regards
Janet

I've been on online forums since 1981. (You read that right. Usenet, 1981. Look up ihnp4.)
One of the painful lessons of those years is that it is possible for two people of goodwill to create a p***ing contest that neither of them intends, with a lot of hurt feelings that neither of them intended. It happens by two kinds of misunderstanding: misunderstanding what the other means, not only in fact but in tone, and misunderstanding how one's own words will be read, in fact and in tone.
It ends when the people either decide it's not worth continuing, or realize that it shouldn't have happened, and that all the hurt feelings were unintentional. This is hard. It is a learned reaction. It puts a really bad taste at the back of the mouth. It feels like losing face--no, sacrificing face--for the sake of polity. And maybe that's what it is, in the short term. But makes online forums life a lot less stressful.

Give it a rest, lady. This didn't start off with any misunderstanding about your name.
