Something to remember when reviewing is that American English and UK, Canada, Australia, etc. often spell words differently, especially -our/or endings and the use of Z/S in spellings. Be sure to check where the author is from before you make yourself look silly with corrections. smile

Excellent point about location, JP. Something to remember when reviewing is that American English and UK, Canada, Australia, etc. often spell words differently, especially -our/or endings and the use of Z/S in spellings.

But I think I'll put this in the writing tips forum, since it's not anything Sol can add to our exhaustive wishlist.

The book is a first-person ramble suited to such lack of organization through chapters and in my opinion gives itself over to the dull monotony first-person narratives have.

Love that, Charles.

P, the first year I entered it was okay to enter more than one. After that, not. So, I have no idea what the rule is this time around.

I'm also revising my entry chapters.

Since when can we enter 2, Linda?  I'm going to enter Triple Threat--Gods and Children. It's completely new.

Thanks for the plug, Dirk.

Dunecan, I have self-pubbed 3 books so far. Even then, I've had an editor go through them and then at least 3 proofreaders. Dirk has been one of my beta readers. They are invaluable. FYI, I charge $1.00 per page. A page is 8.5 X 11, 12 font, Times New Roman, 1 inch margins all around. Obviously you would need to convert my numbers to pounds and metric.

Hope I don't have the font size issue. I'm blind.

Reciprocation is a courtesy that most of us afford those who review us. It must be nice to have enough points to post a whole novel. You've put your situation up front, but I think a lot of folks won't give you more than 3 chapters if there's not some reciprocation. I have so many folks marked to read that I can't get to them all. I try to give at least one review in return and then more as I can get to it.

Welcome, mikira. No, you won't. I usually finish the entire book before making major corrections. I will most likely edit the first three chapters of the one I plan to put in the strongest start, but once I post the rest, it might be a year before I make revisions.

Bravo, Linda!

Again, my 2 issues are 1) Have the text box for inline reviews not cover the content your commenting on and 2) When going to a piece on your reading list, go directly to the last chapter read & reviewed rather than having to do the drop-down box to find the chapter. These might not even be issues for others, but they would help me in my reviewing.

This too shall pass, Allen. But while you're waiting, JP can ship me a margarita.

I sure hope nobody is screaming at this Janet. I think the new site is pretty dang awesome. It still needs a few tweaks, but nothing that would throw us back to the old way. My 2 issues are 1) Have the text box for inline reviews not cover the content your commenting on and 2) When going to a piece on your reading list, go directly to the last chapter read & reviewed rather than having to do the drop-down box to find the chapter. I still think these group forums should be for discussion of topics with the continuing feedback having its own forum or simply PMing the author.

Sol is addressing my first issue. Again, thanks. As for the second, well, I'm a big girl and can adjust.

Thanks, Sol, for addressing the inconvenience of the text box being over the content. I appreciate all your efforts.

I find reading someone else's stuff often gives me a boost to writing, Allen.

Still my biggest issue is having the dialogue box for inlines cover up some text so that often the concern is answered a couple of paragraphs later. If the dialogue box was to the side, it would be so much easier.

Maybe, Dirk, who reviewed and/or who has posted. Not just a new review or a connection. I'm not reading every person I'm connected with. Nor are all my connections reading my stuff. I'm now being inundated with emails.

I have trouble listening to music with lyrics as I write, so I often have on classical. However, music does help define your characters. For example, Larkin in Lucky Thirteen cranks up Debussy's "Claire de Lune" as she takes a bubble bath. Troy, in Last of an Exceptional Breed, plays and sings "Highway to Hell." What does that indicate about a young teenager? And I have Alain Richter, my favorite hillbilly from my Hillbilly Hijinx series, belting out a slightly modified "Silver Threads and Golden Needles" just after the woman he's always loved skips town.

As a teacher, I often played music during tests. Melodic classical for reading and language arts and highly mathematical Mozart for math test.

Welcome, Shazzie. Yes, review for points. When you earn points, you post your chapter/story.
